Skoda Yeti 118TSI 2013 engine rattle when warm.
Thought I would just close off this topic from a few years ago. My Yeti ended up having a catastrophic engine failure in 2023 after completing 265000 kms. The mechanics found bits of spark plugs in the cylinders! I sold the car to a mechanic who replaced the engine. To the best of my knowledge, the car is still trundling around Queensland Australia.

Cant work out problem with Octavia Scout MK2 TDI. Intermittent Blue Smoke only when engine warm.
I am at a loss to figure this out. My lovely 2011 Octavia Scout 1.6 TDI (220k on odometer) has started blowing intermittent blue-grey smoke when warm and under power, usually for a second or two, then it clears. The car is running beautifully, regular checks show it doesn't use oil(have never needed to top it up between oil changes), there has been no coolant loss or discolouration , no power loss and no turbo noise. No smoke on cold start, but after a long trip the next day, it blows intermittent smoke on acceleration when the engine is warm. No error codes or warning lights... Cold Engine test shows no blue smoke A little oil in the crankcase ventilation hoses. I'm thinking valve seals, but if anyone has any other ideas, I would love to hear them! Thanks in advance for your advice. I love this car, but if valve seals are gone, then it's curtains. Baz

Skoda Yeti 118TSI 2013 engine rattle when warm.
Yes I think that is about right ...maybe abit more ... I have owned it since new and always changed oil at about 8000-10000kms. Its been a one driver car and only redlined it two or three times;).

Skoda Yeti 118TSI 2013 engine rattle when warm.
Regarding another timing chain I am led to believe that a symptom of the dreaded timing chain failure is a engine top end rattle when cold ... mine starts and sounds fine when cold and only rattles when its really warm so hoping it might be something abit cheaper to fix!

Skoda Yeti 118TSI 2013 engine rattle when warm.
Thanks for the replies ... Oil consumption is probably 150 ml per 1500km approx. Ill post an audio file of the noise... if its the timing chain again then I might be saying goodbye to a much loved car

Skoda Yeti 118TSI 2013 engine rattle when warm.
Hi all My venerable(now at 247k) but trusty 2013 Skoda Yeti 118TSI has developed a rattle in the engine at Idle when it is hot and sometimes wont fire up immediatley at the turn of the ignition key. It runs and sounds fine when it is cold but when it is hot it runs rough and sounds like a diesel at low revs. I had the cam timing chain and tensioner replaced at 120k and it runs and sounds fine when it is cold so I dont think it is Timing chain related. Other forums have suggested Valve lifters but if anyone has any ideas about what it could be Id be happy to hear them . Its been a great car and would like to keep it running for as long as possible. Cheers
