  1. Hi @pab567 could you help with some pointers to a newer firmware version? Hoping it will fix a few stability issues with my Octy VRS Amundsen. These screens are dust magnets, shame the firmware can't fix that :-) Cheers
  2. Tyres are engineered to work well across a certain temperature range, I'm guessing 20c - if you choose a sensible set of tyres for our climate you should only need one set. My VRS has a set of summer and winter. With the summer tyres they work well in warmer weather (say 15-30c) but I notice a big drop in overall grip for corners, accelerating and braking when temperatures drop below 7c. With winters they really grip like stink up to 9c, but lose their advantage above that. Our second car was recently swapped over with Goodyear Vector 4seasons - really impressed with their grip in the wintery slush, heavy hailstorm and cold and general use. Personally with 5mm left on the rear set, I would fit a new pair of matching tyres on the front - by the time you come to change them in a couple of years, you can change all four together for all seasons.
  3. My buzzing was caused by a scuttle panel (outside, below wipers/bonnet). Dependent on wind speed and direction. Dealer could not replicate but adjusted under warranty, now fixed.
  4. Mine does it in cooler temperatures, until the exhaust has heated up. Tailgaters back off :-)
  5. Where did you get yours repaired? Guessing at that price it wasn't classed as a diamond cut repair. Mrs kindly kerbed the two passenger side wheels, she only drove it six ft while I was at work...
  6. I followed guidance similar to @penguin17 for my tsi - after 600 miles starting to rev it but gently, keep engine guessing with mix of "d" and manual override with flappy paddles. Took until 3000 miles to feel smoother with less tight spots. Reached 8000 miles and 1yr now, revs freely, quickly, improving fuel consumption and zero oil consumption. And I enjoy occasional, appropriate full throttle ;-)
  7. I didn't manage to find the green menu, but using the same phone (iPhone 6s) and lightning connection, I've had significant sound improvement by using Apple Music instead of Deezer. No more weird gaps in equaliser and proper bass (well, without the sub!) I suspect when connecting some phones via USB, they are sending the audio bitstream to the car, for the car to decode. Could be something naff in music apps, or bitrate with stored music files, that the head unit doesn't like too much.
  8. I've had a look and a brief go, but chickened out as it seems quite chunky, tightly secured and almost no flex. Felt like I was going to damage the bumper, rather than break the grille. Pretty busy with work and kids now so don't think I'll get the chance in a while :-(
  9. I changed a year ago from CR170 VRS estate to facelift TSI VRS estate. Overall the petrol is significantly quieter and a lot more torque spread evenly across the rev range and more power at the top. Both were DSG, found it works better with the petrol as there's more available power in that rev range... With the diesel, in D it was too low in the rev range, with S it was too high. DSG with adaptive cruise (ACC) and adaptive dampers (DCC) makes it a great long distance car. It does use more fuel, but I'm getting around 33mpg on the 10 mile commute and 40ish on longer A road/motorway runs with car full of family and luggage, without really compromising my driving style or creature comforts. I'd only consider a diesel if doing bigger miles (15k+ per annum) to offset the higher fuel costs and when local govs have decided what to do with pollution charge across the country. London is known, but Manchester, Brum, Nottingham etc are not yet.
  10. The fun comes with kiddy paraphernalia - buggies with removable wheels, high chairs etc. A lot more swearing and shoving, sadly no option to leave the screaming one behind!
  11. Not sure what front sensor does it (adaptive cruise, lane keep/traffic sign, parking) but yes it does when car in front moves. Find it highly irritating when cars edge forward, for no reason as it's a long line of cars with a red traffic light, and it triggers the engine to start!
  12. Could you remove the parcel shelf, stand one or two cases behind the seats? With the estate I have a little more room between the shut-lines and the glass, if you're careful you may have the same. If only mother- and father-in-law, flatten side and middle seat, might be able to get two or three if lying on their side? Or if your profile is correct (N. London) father-in-law can catch an uber with half the luggage?
  13. Just tried swapping my FL grille surround off - don't mind breaking the original chrome surround, but really can't find any way of loosening the clips without really breaking things :-( Is there a way to loosen off the bumper enough, maybe to get inside pair of lights out of the way, without undoing all the under tray and wheel arch bolts? Thinking that might give me enough access to reach more clips to prise/break off.
  14. A little guide on XL tyres: https://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-article/reinforced-tyres-advantages-and-disadvantages Basically, XL tyres are reinforced to allow for higher pressures, to cope with extra weight on each wheel. The tyre may be heavier and less flexible, which means they're noisier and use more fuel. They could last longer, as the stiffer structure will be under less stress, and less likely to be damaged by hitting potholes and kerbs.
  15. I have a minor glitch with the right scroll wheel - infrequently, when the car restarts (stop/start) it will scroll down by itself on the dash display. The scroll wheel itself is secure and dash otherwise working fine. It's still under warranty, but any thoughts on what the cause may be?
