  1. I've been trying to use the skoda connect service with my Mk3 FL and found it to be very unreliable. At first I thought it was the system not working well with my Android phone in Hotspot mode, so I tried a mobile 4G hotspot, which I had been using my laptop over for most of the day and found much the same. I also tried once I got home and was in range of my home WIFI to connect via that, with the same result. It seems strange, as I also have a Tiguan with its equivalent, which seems to work reliably with any internet connection I throw at it! Its not that I'm interested in the news or weather as I drive, but that the traffic reports on it are much better than the TrafficMaster FM system. What I see when I go to the menu and press skoda connect after its connection attempt is an error message saying "No Data Connection Available" See the attached images ( sorry for the finger prints and reflections, I did my best!) I tried resetting the entertainment unit by pressing and holding the power button until the screen went blank. One time it seemed to work, another time it didn't Has anyone got suggestions, or should I chase up my dealer and see if they / Skoda UK have any bright ideas? For reference, the System info is as follows Device Part Number: 5Q0035874B Hardware: H30 Software: 0361 Navigation database: 5L0051236P 0730 ECE1 2017
  2. I noticed the car saying "Operating Temperature not maintained" on the start-stop status info screen in January a few times which I suspect are symptoms. I put it down to being January and doing about 70 down the main road so in spite of the water temperature being at about 90, maybe wind chill was too much. But after I saw it last Monday just before it overheated, its made me suspicious that January was the first symptoms. I guess the other thing to look for is water temperature changing to be hotter than 90C in "normal" driving conditions.
  3. It's not going so well at the moment. It was 3 years and 21 days since I'd collected the car when I reported the issue, and it has done about 49k miles. My progress so far is 90% of the cost of the pump from the dealership, but they can't offer anything on the cam/timing belt which is "recommended". That will leave me with approximately £250 to get the car working again. Skoda UK customer services say that they no longer have a good will policy, that it is solely the dealerships that provide goodwill now. It is being escalated to a SUK CS manager, but I'm not holding my breath. Hopefully the work will be done by close of play today, and I can return the Citigo I've had over the weekend!
  4. I think my 2.0 (non vrs) diesel has just joined the overheating club. I'd noticed a couple of times while on dual carriageway at 70 stop start a month or so ago it saying it couldn't stop as it wasn't maintaining operating temperature. Last night running through some of the smaller B roads home at traffic lights, with what appeared plenty of warmth it didn't turn off with that same reason, and then a mile or so from home I started getting the red "stop car immediately, overheating" message with the water at 130C I eased off (not that I was going fast with the dogs in the boot), turned the heat up to full and after a few moments it suddenly dropped back to 90C With my eye on the water and the maxi-dot set to oil temp I watched it carefully on my normal commute, and it appears the wind chill of 70 MPH kept the water to about 110 and oil at 106 before something seemed to open and it went back to its normal steady 90C. The last time I'd seen a car behave like that was my old rover 214 after it had blown its head and started to drink coolant, but all the levels looked fine and I couldn't see any blow fuses anywhere Annoyingly, it went out of warranty 3 weeks ago! But its booked in to the dealers on thursday.
  5. Just had a call from my local dealer about the PCP finance they will be doing. He said that there will be no dealer contribution, and interest rates are at 4.9% We were thinking SE L with tow bar and a few options, so with a £5k deposit and estimated 15k milage, it works out in the £400 ballpark for a 3.5 year lease
  6. Thanks for the suggestions. I will be careful to leave the phone charger unplugged in the future, just in case it was causing some nastiness. I've heard back from the dealer. They did do some tests on the battery and it was saying it was good. They charged it and tried to find sources of current draw, but didn't find anything noticeable. However, after a 2nd night in their workshop and looking at it again, they have now found something wrong with the battery, and will get a new one fitted later today. I don't have a battery charger at the moment, I was thinking something like this Ring Automotive RSC605 should do the trick, or at least be something useful to have in the garage. It is surprising how many "universal" chargers are not suitable for the modern battery tech used by cars with start stop!
  7. I got it in Feb 2014, I can't remember which side of the new year was its allocated build week I've left the 12v charger unplugged now. The dashcam should have no way of drawing power. When I fitted it just after I got the car in 2014, I used a multi-meter to select a fuse to piggy back from that is off when the ignition isn't on. The AA Tech seemed happy that the remaining 0.48 amps was from having only just turned the car off and locked it. He suggested that some systems in the car can take several hours before they shut down and stop drawing power. Locking it did very quickly reduce it from 3-4 amps to 0.4 The radio is an original one, so that shouldn't be doing anything unusual. It's about a 35 minute drive to the dealer, and for the first 10 minutes I made sure start stop was disabled. I did try re-enabling it, and the 40+ mins I left it idling, and the 10 minutes driving seemed to have filled it up enough to allow it to work again. But I have left it with them to investigate, as it would be very different being stuck near work rather than at home. I'll report back any progress reports I get from them, but I don't think they can start looking at it till tomorrow.
  8. A couple of months back I nearly posted as Start Stop was taking 45 minutes some days to stop displaying "Power Consumption too high" as its reason for not stopping. I took it into the dealer, and they first looked at replacing the ignition switch. I asked if that was the bit that the key went in, as opposed to something deeper in the engine, and they confirmed this. After I got the car back, it still was acting up. They took another look and decided the Alternator was fine, the battery health was fine, but was just flat, so bench charged it and returned the car. It then was fine for a month or so. On Saturday, on one of my few short runs that the car ever takes I did notice the "Power consumption too high" message while at a level crossing, but didn't panic, as it was just a short run, and monday would be back to normal with my normal 30-40 minute drives each way to and from work However, when I went to turn the car on to de-ice it (it got down to about -3 last night) it wheezed and spluttered and started saying "Very Low battery, turn engine off" I left it off and unlocked, called skoda assist / AA, and they were pleasantly quick at getting out to take a look. It started first time with their booster pack, and the alternator was giving about 14v (I didn't see what current it said it was putting in). Once some charge had built, he shut the car down and locked it while measuring the current draw to check everything was off. I think at the point the battery test was run, the residual draw was something like 0.48 amps, and the battery tester said battery is flat, but healthy. They recommended I left it running for 40+ mins before turning it off. I'm trying to get the dealer to look at it asap, as I don't fancy being stranded at home or at work Any suggestions what might be the cause? My dash cam is only on when the ignition is on. I had left a 12v phone charger plugged in to the always on sockets, but that would hardly utterly drain the battery over 2 days. The car is a 150 PS 2.0L diesel
  9. Just spotted this on AutoExpress: http://www.autoexpress.co.uk/skoda/kodiaq/96276/skoda-kodiaq-prototype-2016-review
  10. I've not spotted any other threads about this, but I hope it helps someone else. After being out in mist / fog thick enough to use my fog lights, I was a bit disappointed with the amount of light they throw onto the road. If I sit up high, I can just about see beyond the bonnet the line the beam makes on the ground! Having put new bulbs for my dipped / full beams in, I thought I'd look and see what I could do with fogs, before I looked for bulbs for them to. I think I've found an adjustment screw. The torx in that came with the spare wheel kit seems a little short and maybe not quite big enough size to turn the screw, and the protective cover makes it a bit more difficult. I've not yet done anything to it yet, but I presume I should be fairly safe to try tweaking it a bit, as long as I don't try and get them aimed higher than the cutoff on the dipped beams
  11. After a long while of thinking about it. I've got round to putting H7 Osram night breakers and H15 Osram cool blue intense in. I've attached some grabs from my dashcam with full beam on, and took a couple of shots of the headlights on the same piece of road, showing how much better they light up the road, and the next set of signs I've also taken photos of the bulbs. The sidelight is still very yellow, and there is a very obvious blue tint when the full beam is on. Next, to decide which LEDs for the tail lights!
  12. BW5, and arrived at dealers on 7th Feb. Dealer gave me the option 2 weeks ago when it got there for when to pick up, 1st march or any time (allowing for PDI) before then. In the end I opted for Friday, as a nice birthday present from me to me Race Blue Elegance Hatch TDI 2.0 DSG, with Spare wheel and LED tail lights Had a few little runs in it, and really enjoying it so far. Seems to be getting lots of admiration from friends too, especially the one with a bmw 1 series
  13. I missed a call from Skoda UK late this afternoon, The voicemail said it'll be at the dealers tomorrow. I then called my dealers, who said they were going to call me in the morning about it. They've now left me with the big decision. Get it as soon as PDI is completed, or collect it on my birthday in a couple of weeks. They even were fine about me waiting till 1st of march, said it was all totally up to me. What to do?!
  14. My dealer has just confirmed that I'm accepted and on track for BW 5 too. Race Blue Elegance 150 TDI DSG, with Towbar prep, LED tail lights and spare wheel. I'm expecting it'll be March 1st pick up. If the shipping is fast enough, I guess it may be with the dealer in time for my birthday the week before. Either way, I'm excited!
  15. Did you mean this? http://www.rac.co.uk/press-centre/press-releases/rac-rolls-out-universal-spare-wheel-as-puncture-n/ I've ordered a spare for my one. I got bitten by it a couple of years back. Somehow I managed to get a tear in the sidewall while doing 70, and only had goo and a compressor in the boot. I didn't try the goo as it wasn't holding any pressure. It took RAC a couple of hours to get round to sending anyone. I think as I made it to a layby and was in no ones way, even though on dual carriage way I wasn't any kind of priority!
