The car was only two years old and still in warranty when I bought it. No paperwork or anything said about the bootlid being removed. I've only noticed it recently due to the flaking in the bottom corner. I'm pretty sure the paint has been immaculate up until recently. Thanks, I'mconsidering ringing the dealer, but as they're kind of far away I've not had it serviced by them since the end of the warranty. I'm expecting them to tell me to eff off!

Hi all, I've got rust and paint flaking from the lip of the boot on my 2014 Mk3 VRS. The bottom right corner is particularly bad, but while inspecting it yesterday I noticed further rust all along the underside of the edge. I have a plastic rear guard fitted to protect tyhe edge of the boot so am wondering if that could have effected it, with water getting trapped possibly. I'm mainly wondering whether to bother approaching Skoda with it as I'm the second owner and have had the 5 years, or just take it to a bodyshop for a smart repair or something.

I've taken it out today and after 20 miles the coolant gauge barely left 50c and the oil temp never got above 60c. Not much heat from the heaters, so definitely looks like a thermostat issue. My issue is that I need to do 300 miles tomorrow before I can take it back to the garage, am I likely to damage it, or just go through loads of diesel?

Thanks, I suspected thermostat but that was the first thing the garage replaced. Oil temp is around 70-80c according to the maxidot.

Hi all, just had my 2014 Mk3 TDi VRS suffer the dreaded overheating issue caused by the waterpump. I've just got it back today after taking it to an independant garage and having the termostat, waterpump and cam belt replaced and now when I drive it, oil temp gets up to 70-80c, but the coolant needle on the dash just seems to drop and drop. When I'm idling at traffic lights it does go up a bit, but never past a quarter or so. On the motorway in 6th at 70mph, it dropped all the way to 50c as if the engine wasn't even switched off, and if I pout the heaters on max, they're not getting to melt your face off temperature. I've taken it back to the garage and they're at a loss, having replaced both the termostat and water pump. Any ideas what else could be wrong, and is it safe to drive in the current state?

That's the default, try loading something on one of the seats and the symbol will change, and you'll get the "bong" noise if you drive without the seatbelt done up.

Looks like I'm the newest member of the club! 2014 TDI vrs with 45500 miles. Typical that it would happen 3 weeks after my first non-Skoda dealer service (owing to the dealer being too far away from where I moved to). The garage already tried replacing the termostat, quoted me £187, then called back to say it hadn't fixed it and now on to replacing the pump and cam belt while they're at it. I hate to think how much it's going to cost all in!

I think I sorted it, the thread linked above was for MY18, so FL models, not earlier ones, and options related to bi-xenon headlights were different. That's the thread I've been following, but as wg100 said above, the menu options in VCDS have changed since the guides were written, and now I can't seem to find the correct drop down option to select.

Hi all, I've been following the pinned post in this very forum and have so far enabled traffic sign recognition and the DRL's flashing in sequence with indicators. Next on my list was enabling high beam assist, but the instructions in the pinned post aren't very clear. Does anyone know what the actual option is in the drop down is called? " Access Module 09 - enter security code 31347 Go to (2) Assistant light functions - Menu light assistant and change to 'PRESENT' " I can't find the above anywhere. I've seen names for things on the golf forum's, but wasn't sure if they were the exact same on the Octavia or not. Any help greatly appreciated!

Done mine. Only a few things needed updating, and I was paranoid about the battery dying while it was doing it, so I did it with the engine running and drove around and it was fine. Not noticed anything especially different about it yet, though I did finally discover how to get the clock to show while the screen is off! Nice to have the latest (last?) firmware before they moved on to MIB2 though.

I would also like to jump on the bandwagon and request the link for the firmware, having just done my maps update. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the replies. Seems maybe my unit wasn't faulty at all, and the new one is either a newer revision, or has been coded to show the fan speed at all times, even in AUTO mode. I'm surprised (I guess I shouldn't be really) that the dealer didn't know and a warranty replacement was approved.

So, I have a MY14 Mk3 Octavia vRS. Had it just over a year, and in all that time I believed the climatronic unit had a faulty LED, in that the second LED on the fan control wouldn't light up. First LED came on as normal, nothing for the second (first went off too), third, fourth etc worked fine. I recently had the car in for service and showed them the "problem" and asked about it. They confirmed it was faulty and arranged for a new unit to be fitted under warranty. Today I had the work done, and upon picking it up it seems that when pressing AUTO the fan comes on immediately to the second LED (which at least now works) but it's got me wondering if there ever was an issue, or if the reason the LED didn't light was because that was the AUTO position? I asked them about it at the time, but they just said that must be the position I had set AUTO at, something I wasn't even aware you could do. I also now have a SYNC button instead of a DUAL button, though I doubt that makes any difference. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Hi guys. I bought a 2014 Octavia vRS on Saturday and am part exchanging my 57 plate vRS. When doing the part ex valuation I was asked if I had the spare key. I replied that I though I had it at home somewhere, but it turns out the spare I thought I had is actually for my previous car. Anyway, I called the dealer today and was told a new one would cost £180. I said I'd get a spare cut myself cheaper, but was then told that I must supply two remotes, not just my original remote and a spare blade key. The dealer claimed all Skoda's come supplied with two remotes. Can anyone confirm if this is true or not? I definitely don't remember being given two remotes when I bought the car originally!

Thanks guys, appreciate the answers. I did suspect that I had previously turned the Stream on without the key in, but the whole CAN gateway battery drain thing had me all paranoid so I was being a doubting Thomas.

Hi all, I finally got around to replacing the Stream MP3 head unit in my 2007 Octavia VRS with a Bolero I bought off ebay. I read about a thousand threads on here and other places before attempting it, and besides snapping one of clips while removing the trim, it was surprisingly easy. I'm aware of the issue with older CAN gateway, and got a mate with VCDS to read it for me and confirmed I have a revision L, so shouldn't need an upgrade. However, after fitting and playing around for a while, I noticed I can still power on the head unit without the ignition on or the key even inserted. Is this normal, or should I expect a flat battery in the near future?

I thought the guy on the VW forum was Australia based and only took orders from others in AUS?

I've been having the same dilemma, but on a bright red Octy, so am thinking anthracite or gun metal as silver just doesn't do it for me, but black seems like overkill. Any thoughts?

Hi all, new Octavia vRS owner, just bought a 57 plate diesel after coveting them for several years. Had two Vauxhall's previously, so ready for something a bit more enjoyable. Great forum, already reaping the benefits thanks to a post regarding fix that god awful wind noise from the rear quater lights.
