  1. I have just had my 63 reg VRS Estate MOTd and it passed....however....it was 'noted' that my N/S rear 'bump stop' had split, and my O/S rear was starting to split and they recommended replacing both of them for £183.84 (ouch !!). I am a technical 'numpty' but want to be safe in my car. I only drive on roads, and rarely use the performance of my rocket. How serious an issue is this?.... and should I just pay up and have the work done??....I have no wish to end up in a hedge bottom due to this issue. You guys have always been super-helpful with advice, and I trust you a lot, so any advice would be appreciated.
  2. Thanks a million 'Urban Panzer' - I have ordered one and hope it does the job !!
  3. Hi guys...I have a Fabia VRS with a 'Swing' radio/CD, and I want to start using the MDI input port, with a USB stick containing a load of MP3 music files. There seem to be dozens of different MDI/USB cables for Audi, VW, and others. You guys have always given me answers in the past so....which cable (and where from) do I need to make it all work please?
  4. I have had a few 'electronic' conversations with the guys at Kumho and they assure me that current KU39s HAVE got rim protection. I had Toyos on my last car and they transformed the handling - was tempted to go with them on the VRS, but overall Kumho just got my vote !
  5. Just fitted a pair of new front 'boots' to my VRS Estate, and gone for Kumho KU39. Early days yet, but it feels a bit more positive on cornering. Original equipment Contisport 2's were down to 2mm after 19K miles - pretty good - and I shall be monitoring wear on the Khumos. Anyone any experience of KU39's?
  6. Hi guys....I know you can help. After 18K miles from new, my original equipment Contisport 2 front tyres need replacing soon. At 68 years of age, I don't drive it like a lunatic, but I DO have the odd bit of fun in it, and I'm pleased with the mileage I have got from the Contis. Do I just swap 'like for like' or do you guys think there is a better option - bearing in mind price, handling and wear rate? I had Toyo Proxes C1s on my last car and they were superb - but may not give a decent mileage. Help/Advice please......
  7. At 67 years old I bought a new VRS estate in February, and have not had as much fun since I gave up sex!! My son drove my car, loved it, flogged his Audi A4 S-line - and bought a VRS! - always listen, you youngsters, Dad ALWAYS knows best !! Anyway - to the real question for all you experts - my son's car does not 'auto lock' the doors when you drive off - mine does, and he wants this for his. I beleive its a 'dealer can enable/disable option' - is this true? And - as a matter of interest - is there a list somewhere of all the 'options' that are available - I might want some myself! Any advice, as ever, gratefully appreciated.
  8. Hi guys As a 67 year old owner of a new Fabia VRS (3200 miles on the clock) I am SLIGHTLY dissapointed at the 'noise' it makes. I would really like it to 'growl' a bit - both on tickover and when running. Is this possible? I am now a poverty-stricken pensioner - but LOVING the VRS!! - so can't afford an expensive 'fix'. Back in the 60's - as a 'Mod' - I had a Lambretta scooter which sounded ****. I drilled 4 holes into the silencer and problem solved! I suspect the same solution on my VRS might not comply with current 'regulations'!! You lot have answered SOOO many issues already for me, so I'm sure someone has an effective (and cheap!!) solution to this - I want my new toy to 'burble' like it means business!
  9. I bought a set of mats for my new Fabia VRS from Ambassador Car Mats (google will find them). They were £30 for a set of 4 - front ones with the 'propper' VRS logo embroidered on - and were delivered in 2 days. They are very good quality, and everyone who sees them comments on how smart they look. Hope this helps.
  10. OK - all you guys have been soooo helpful and knowledgeable since I got my VRS estate in February, so I know you will be able to advise on this (sad) query! Having now 'moved on' from just sticking it in D, what are my options using sequential or the 'flappy paddles' ? How do I get the best 'buzz' from the AWESOME acceleration? What are the best revs/speeds to change gear - from 1 to 7 - to get the best performance out of the car? I really DON'T want to 'break it' in the process, but I can't seem to find any torque/power data, gear by gear, anywhere. YOU guys will know!
  11. I am 67, just got a new Fabia VRS estate and not had as much fun since I don't know when! LOVE the looks I get from Audi/BMW/Golf GTI drivers when I leave them standing at the lights - and only done 2000 miles with it from new ! However - I am a sad pensioner - and now that daylight has broken over the North of England I am having a better look at my 'Rocket'. Above the two main dials on the dashboard there is a 'fancy' rounded bit of fascia which goes towards the windscreen - obviously some designer's idea - BUT almost at the end of the 'fancy bit' - near the windscreen - is a small, rectangular un-patterned insert. Does this serve any purpose? What is it? Like I said - sad, old, having fun.....just like to know what 'bits' are there for. This forum, and its members, have been so heplpful with other stuff so far I am sure someone knows the answer ! Sorry - off to bed now !
  12. I can only agree with the above. Fitted Skoda deflectors to my Corrida Red VRS last week and they were a breeze to fit - less than 5 minutes. Followed the 'training' instructions and no problems now with anti-pinch etc. Bonus is now that I can have my window open a few inches to flick fag ash out and there is no waterfall of water onto the electric window switches....oh....and they look great as well.
  13. I came across this article which says Skoda will not be offering a VRS version of the Mk III due out later this year. http://www.topgear.com/uk/car-news/skoda-fabia-vrs-is-no-more-skoda-suv-coming-2013-08-21 Does this mean all our Mk II models will become 'classics' ??
  14. I have lost the will to live about oil! It all seems more complex than brain surgery. As a new VRS owner (1200 miles), and having read the handbook, I agree that there is a light that comes on to say "check your oil level". Those clever people at VW must think this works, and will not damage the engine at that point. I got a 1litre pack of oil with the car which sits in the boot - so if my light comes on I can bung some oil in (not sure how much, however)....so....why all this complicated discussion about dip sticks? I just love to drive the beast, and trust all the technology it has got. If the engine is trashed before the light comes on then its surely a warranty issue?
  15. Just gone through 1200 miles in my brand new VRS estate. I am keeping a spread sheet (yes, I know, VERY sad!) to record MPG (not relying on the MaxiDot) and so far its doing an average of 38 - combination of 2 long runs and lots of short local ones to the golf club, including some 'heavy right foot' action - but not too stupid until its run in a bit. Spoke to Skoda customer services about re-mapping the car for fuel efficiency. They told me that it was a waste of dosh because all UK VRS models are mapped for 98 octane when they are delivered. I ran a tankful of Sainsbury's 97 octane and got 32MPG - currently running on Tesco Momentum (99 octane) and the difference is very noticeable. The 'man from Skoda' told me that they will run on 95 - but like a dog! 97 is OK but not ideal, however he said Tesco is the best juice for them - and so far, on this tank full, I can see a difference. I will post MPG for Tesco when I fill up again. Overall, as a 67 year old 'teenager', WHAT a hoot of a car!! Goes round corners like its on rails - scares me to death when I 'floor it' and the look on BMW 'Rep' drivers faces when you pull away from the lights is worth every penny!!
