  1. Hi, I would have to go with Me-109, I picked up a pair of OEM calipers for £42 and some pennies from eBay earlier this year, they went on easily and so for no problems. I had previously dismantled one of the old ones that was seized, and cleaned and rebuilt it, which was fine if not rather fiddly. I would also say that if you go the rebuild route, then getting the right parts is essential.
  2. Thank you for taking the time to respond, mine are tight I tried with an 18" bar because I couldn't find a way to get my longer one on to both bolts, and it just wouldn't budge, I brought an impact gun which either wouldn't do it or I couldn't get it on the bolts, can't remember.
  3. Thanks, I tried an 18" and I guess I am just too weak to get them to move.
  4. Hi I tried a similar question last week. Simply put, can the rear caliper carrier bolts (Octavia MK2 1KF) be loosened without removing the calipers if the car is up on a lift, is there clearance? I want to rent some time on a lift, but as little as possible because I am skint. Cheers
  5. Hi, thanks for the comment, I have read that thread, and might end up having to try that if this fails. But this feels like a safer alternative, I did the fronts no problem with a 60" bar, the jack thing just sounds a bit dangerous with the car on axel stands, but I do get it.
  6. Hi, I need to replace my rear discs, I tried last summer at the side of the road, but couldn't loosen the blasted carrier bolts. I still need to do this job, and I can't afford to pay a garage to do the whole job, so I was thinking of asking locally if anyone with a lift could just crack/loosen the bolt and then nip them back up, so I could take it home and do the job on the drive. So my question is, can the carrier bolts be loosened without removing the calipers if the car is up on a lift? Thanks in advance.
  7. Hi Just popped out to the garage and this is the one I brought a quicklynks T55 https://www.cardiagtool.co.uk/multilingual-obdii-scanner-t55-free-ship-2878.html But I think this is now an older version and the people I brought it from are now selling this one https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_VAGT85.html
  8. Hi, my brake lights were also working, but my guess is, at some point there was a passing issue that logged the fault. Incidentally now I have changed it and cleared the fault my cruise control has come back to life, bonus! My reader came from eBay, 5 or so years ago, maybe more, it does OBD2 and VAG codes, it really has been a help and cost 30-40 quid. I think they're all much the same thing at that price range.
  9. I had just this recently, and after using my little code reader it turned out to be the brake light switch, which cost about £15. I would get a code reader on it to try to narrow down the issue.
  10. Hi everyone. I had an issue with my driver's side window regulator, it was wound down and then fail to wind back up. It goes a couple of inches and makes some graunching noises and then goes back down. I have ordered a new regulator on a new panel, but looking at all the instructions, they all talk about lining up the plastic pins with the hole near the top of the panel, mine will not do that. So does anyone have any hints or insight into getting the regulator out with the glass still in it? 2005 Octavia Elegance hatchback.
