  1. I downloaded the firmware (5238 modified) from the my-gti forum and had no issues with compatibility and have the Skoda logo. The unit retained the music on my HDD and the maps. It was a faff and I encountered issues with the unit not reading disks including a genuine VW map update disk (v16). If you do fly solo and look at updating the firmware, use decent disks like Verbatim. I used Tesco and Fujifilm CD-R disks I had in the drawer and they were rubbish. Caused me all sorts of headaches with failed updates which finally required me to use the rescue software online before loading 5238 again. Thankfully, the Verbatim disks loaded everything without a hitch and it’s all up and running again.
  2. Hi Gumexik I would second Declan’s advice. @Rustynuts is definitely the man to speak to. I have read some of his posts and I was preparing to contact him myself regarding a very similar issue with my Columbus having very recently bought an S2 Superb. I have managed to sort my unit myself having read more forum posts and 3rd part sites than is healthy, but it is not easy. If you are not familiar with extracting files, creating iso files and burning disks, I’d certainly ask @Rustynuts for help. Please let us know how you get on.
  3. Hi Folks I'm currently trying to get to the bottom of a couple of issues with my Son's 110 Tdi Elegance Estate and wondered if anyone can help us solve the niggles? First up, she is very reluctant to start from cold with the outside air temp at much above 7-8°C. Even resetting the ignition half a dozen times doesn't seem to put sufficient warmth in to the plugs to get her to fire up. We're resigned to winding it over on the ignition with a bit of throttle now and again to coax her in to life. Below 6°C, the glow plug light stays on longer (3-4 seconds maybe) and she'll fire either first or second attempt and with no problem. Putting a multimeter on the plug feed wires showed no life but there must be something getting through as she holds the plug light and will fire on colder mornings. As soon as you get a bit of warmth in to the cylinders, she'll fire up without hesitation. Glow plugs have been changed already. I'm due to change the CTS tonight, but is there something else amiss? I've seen threads where folks change the plugs, CTS, No.103 & 109 relays and still have issues. Could it be a simple matter of pump timing as the cam belt was changed prior to this issue appearing? Secondly, she has had an issue with the turbo. I suspected sticky vanes and have run a full tank of diesel through with Wynns Turbo cleaner in it. It is 100% better than it was. The turbo boosts well and the car is far more energetic. Every now and again, mainly when she's cold, we're getting a bit of turbo flutter. Sometimes with that, the car stutters a bit and then it'll clear and away she goes. Not wanting to pull the turbo off the car, is there anything I can check (and replace if required) with the turbo in place? Thanks in advance DD
  4. I think you'll need the button modules for the flappy paddles as the standard MFSW units will not have the port for the paddle cables. Check with your local dealer, but I think the part no is 5E0 919 719B. When I fitted the units to my S3 Superb, it didn't need coding once I had the correct buttons. I can't say for sure if the Octy 3 needs coding. I hope this helps?
  5. Not sure Ken. The car is only a recent purchase but I’ll certainly have a look. She could do with a service so I’ll make sure that gets changed. Cheers.
  6. Hi Folks Does anyone know if this can be increased via VCDS or some such medium? On full chat, it seems quite slow and takes a while to start clearing the screen. TIA. Dave
  7. Hi Folks Following the sale of my S3 Superb in June, I'm very pleased to be back in a Skoda after 6 months of driving a blue oval shoebox. The Superb and I never really jelled, she was losing value quicker than a Turkey on Boxing Day, so I decided to let her go. The proceeds went to buying myself a 1970 Karmann Ghia which I'd wanted since my late teenage years. This gorgeous piece of motoring history is now under going a winter rebuild ready for next spring. Having looked for a good second hand Octavia which at that moment in time seemed to be in short supply, I bought a cheap Fiesta as a daily. Long story short, the Fiesta is going to a young lad as his first motor and I have snapped up a very clean, 03 plate, one owner, 112k, FSH Octavia Mk1 hatch PD130 Tdi. It was love at first sight and I'm sure she and I will be very happy together! You will now find me making the odd appearance on the Octavia Mk1 Forum and I'm very happy to be back in the fold!
  8. Would it benefit from a sympathetic remap or is it just a characteristic with the 1.2Tsi? I've driven it and found it quite a good drive and can't say I noticed the hesitation my father is referring to. Maybe slightly different driving styles? I got better MPG than he's seen on a run.
  9. Hi Folks. I'm new to this forum as I'm looking at an issue on my father's Rapid. Its a 13 plate 1.2 Tsi manual. He's complaining of a hesitation from the engine on harder acceleration, usually away from junctions. He describes it as if the engine is being starved of fuel for a moment. He doesn't get it with gentle acceleration. Is it a known issue on the engine or does it need investigating? Any help would be most welcome Dave.
  10. Part No. 5E0 919 719B. With Paddle shift function for DSG equipped cars. Requires paddle shift steering wheel (not included) As new. Not compatible for the S3 Superb. £30. 07866 423260.
  11. I've noticed that expensive cars seem to have indicators as an option that most drivers don't select on the order form, regardless of manufacturer.
  12. Works a treat on my S3. Question came from a potential buyer of my car. i hadn't even thought about it.
  13. That was my thought. Adjustment of an ecu parameter.
  14. Hi All In recent conversation, it was put to me that coding the car with the audi throttle response would require informing the insurance company. I hadn't given it any thought but would this constitute a modification that needed declaring? Any thoughts? TiA Dave
  15. Gentle warmth from a hair dryer will soften it and the backing glue. Makes it a bit easier to remove.
  16. I'm very interested in getting one. The 190 is a bit of a sleeping beast I think. Sport mode certainly livens the old girl up.
  17. I'm guessing this is plug n play? Once fitted, it stays in situ? Where do you house the unit once it's in? Very interested in this as they're not overly expensive if I remember correctly?
  18. I'm adapting my driving style to suit. I use Sport to pull away at roundabouts and busy junctions, tapping it back to Drive once I've got the momentum. I have also knocked it over the left and left it there, using the paddles and stick. I have noticed much better throttle response in manual. Drive seems to be slipping the clutches. I always wanted to go DSG but really miss the third pedal.
  19. Not sure if this has been addressed elsewhere but thought I'd ask. Does anyone know (those of you knowledgeable folks who dabble with VCDS) if the time duration the DSG stays in tiptronic can be altered once you drop the box into tiptronic mode with the paddle shift? Quite often I'll shift down for roundabouts as the car seems to want to go round in the highest gear possible which isn't always practical. I've found that it does revert back to drive mode a bit sooner than I want and then changes up often leaving you in the wrong gear. I'd like to know if it can be coded to stay in tiptronic mode longer, allowing me to decide when to revert back to drive mode and change up. Thanks in advance.
  20. The rear offside door trim on my L & K started catching and coming away. Although the car is booked in, it won't be for another two weeks so I've taken matters in to my own hands for now. I carefully peeled the strip away from the rubber, re positioned it further back along the rubber strip and then pushed it home using the palm of my hand. It took some effort to seat it, but so far it's stayed put. I will expect it replaced as originally the trim was bent opening the drivers door.
