  1. got my hands on the parents car so here's the log (there's a few other issues such as the dpf and the front electric windows but that's not my concern at the moment) Log.txt
  2. where it says Update the Parking Aid (J446 / #76) OR Parking Aid 2 (J446 / #10) Configuration, if installed - what would I reverse? I have parking aid listed in my VCDS - but it's got a 6 digit code against it
  3. My parents have had their towbar removed by a local (cowboy) garage who haven't done anything with the coding and now they have no parking sensors and have a bulb out warning light constantly. While I want to take it back to the garage to sort, they're 3+ hours away from where I live and I'm not driving down there just to have an argument when I can hopefully recode it myself when they come down to ours later in the week. I've had a look on my Yeti (which has a towbar fitted and the coding all working ok) and I can find the section regarding the parking assist and towbar functions - but I'm not sure what to reset the codes to in order for the car to operate as it did prior to having a towbar. If anyone has any info as to what I need to enter so as to get their parking sensors working again that would be much appreciated (and might just save me having my cars reversed into in my driveway when they come down )
  4. yeah, that's true. I'm also in a position where I have good cover from work, and the house/contents are insured. This is the most expensive car I've bought, and never had to experience a write off claim in 20 + years of driving (including a few accidents in my younger days) so perhaps I'm being naive in thinking that my insurance will cover the loss/replacement of the car should it get written off . . . Will look into GAP insurance in more detail before picking it up
  5. that's good to know as I'm in and around Bristol a fair bit these days - usually have a 4 hour MWay journey home afterwards though so it might look the same as before it went in by the time I get home though
  6. We're just about at the top of our budget (after we factor in towbar & roof rails which we will need to get fitted before the school summer hols) so I will probably give them a miss. I guess these are ok if you use them to their full potential but the chances of that seem slim
  7. So we're picking up our new (to us) Octavia in a week or so and have been given the option to purcahse their 3 Year Care Pack including SupaGard £495 Smart Cover £499 Gap Insurance £395 Tyre & Alloy £395 Protection Pack £195 Has anyone taken these out, and if so how have you found them? I'm leaning towards only bothering with the Smart Cover as having the peace of mind that I'll be able to sort out little chips and door dents etc and possiby putting different alloys on anyway (and not sure that the cover applies to aftermarked wheels) I'd be interested to hear peoples views on these 'offers'. My thinking is that you can probably get the supagard effect done cheaper from an independant company, and Gap insurance seems like a
  8. hmm - I could always use my work phone in the car to get google maps. That wouldn't be ideal as i would need someway of keeping my podcasts and audiobooks etc in sync as I dont use my work phone at weekends/evenings . . .
  9. I'm toying with getting mine activated - I spend a few hours a day in the car and I do like the idea of being able to just plug in my iPhone and then forget about it. Does the iPhone allow google maps use - or do you have to use Apple Maps? That might be the deal breaker for me as I've never got on with Apple Maps and find googles traffic updates much more reliable
  10. Having finally got some headrest DVD players I'm now looking to fit them - and while in theory it's not too tricky after a quick 5 min look this morning before work I can't see any easy way to either remove the back of the front seats or get access to the inside of them to help route the cables. Before I get home this afternoon and start properly messing about with them - has anyone had any experience of how to get access to allow me to thread cables down inside the front seats?
  11. Looking to get a towbar fitted in the coming weeks Can anyone recommend anywhere that will ideally be good value for money and do a cracking job many thanks
  12. not going the tablet route as they have the (limited) use of them when we're at home and my youngest gets car sick with anything other than watching video in the car (is unable to read or play on 3DS etc as after 5 mins he feels sick and unless he tells us he then voms everywhere). As said being able to install once and then not have to worry about putting in/taking out and charging etc is a key feature The prices on the Aces site look a lot more than elsewhere ........
  13. Thanks for the offer but our Skoda has the Bolero system so that's not really feasable. Plus the kids like different things at the moment so having independent control will remove one of the major headaches :-) I think the price they quote is for a pair of Headrest units, which does give me concern over the longevity but given that media will mainly be played from SD or USB that should mean they last a bit longer as they will not be opened\closed multiple times a journey to swap DVD's. Plus given that they have a nice zippered cover means we dont have to worry about removing them (which has been the cause of death for the last two lots of dvd players we've have in our cars, after they've been chucked in the boot or garage) I've no real need for them until our holiday in October so I'll keep looking, and if I decide to get some and fit myself I'll let everyone know how I got on. I've just watched a YouTube video of installation of a similar system in a Nissan, and from the look of it it's quite simple (depending on if the back of the seat comes off and how easy it is to route the cables to a free switched fuse)
  14. Has anyone installed something along the lines of these headrest media centres? I'm looking at getting something that goes in the headrest for longer journeys and rather than the faff of setting up each time I'd rather go for something that I can install once and then forget about. I've not yet managed to find any install guides so if anyone has any info on how easy they are to install (cable management etc) then I'd be very grateful. Also - if there are any recommended alternatives to the Veyron HR series then I'd be interested to hear, providing that it can play DVD's and media off a SD card or USB stick. thanks in advance
