  1. Hi all, looking into a used Octavia mk3 estate and wondered what owners opinions are of the variable boot floor. Do you find it useful/practical at all or is it just an unnecessary extra?

I like the look of it as it raises the floor up to meet the rear seats better when they are folded down so would possibly make life easier for me to load things as will be using the vehicle for work but in the real world does it make things any more practical or reduce useable space at all?

    Thanks,

    Chris.

  2. Hi, I am a returning member, (used to own a 2011 fabia vrs) I bought a van for work that I am now selling and am looking into the Octavia estate from 2015 onwards. My budget is probably absolute top end about £9500 so can get decent spec sub 60k miles from an independent used dealer but a little less for your money from Skoda main dealer.

I was just wondering what people’s opinion was about buying direct from Skoda as opposed to an independent, what extra you can expect from Skoda in terms of aftercare and warranty etc and do you think it’s worth going for a lower spec or paying slightly more to buy from Skoda direct?

Thanks in advance for your help, my previous experience of this site has been excellent so I know you won’t let me down!

  3. Has anyone else experienced any problems with the SD card on an RNS-510? I keep getting an error message saying "SD Card Error, please check SD Card" I have formatted the card as instructed by how to guides on the internet and have even played around with formatting it differently with the same result. Does anyone know what my problem could be? The music files on the card are also in Mp3 format.

  4. It used to work in my old skoda and display track info but that had controls on the steering wheel so not sure if it is due to the van not being coded for that.

I checked the connection for the light and there is power to it as i checked it with a volt meter. and i checked the contacts in the light and they show voltage too. its puzzling me as both the cab light and the light in the storage bay aren't working but have power going to them. May be an idea to get it on vcds and pin point the error.

  5. I tried to PM you last week, not sure if you got it but i have got the bluetooth installed now and it works fine through the head unit. There are a couple of things that don't work like seeing the track name displayed on the head unit and being able to skip through tracks on the head unit. Is this where the re coding using vcds would help? I am a total novice with this sort of thing so excuse my ignorance. I also have a "lighting error" dash warning light on as my interior lights aren't working (think i did something when installing the microphone) would this need to be cleared for the lights to work again as i have checked the fuse and changed the bulbs and they still don't work. Thanks again for your help on this, like i said i don't know much about how all this works.

  6. Hi, just wondered if there was anyone who could help me out.

I am retrofitting bluetooth to my VW Caddy (I know its not a Skoda but its the same VCDS system, just in the process of selling my fabia vrs) and was wondering if any VCDS owners in Kent or nearby could help with coding it to the van as it isn't activated as far as I know. Am obviously willing to pay a small fee if need be. Any help is massively appreciated.

  7. Hello again everyone, I know this is a skoda forum but the parts are the same for vw, skoda and seat so thought id try here to see if anyone can answer my query. I am looking at retrofitting original VW  bluetooth to my caddy van as I liked the convenience of having it in my fabia vrs. I was wondering if anyone knows if you need to have the maxi dot display and multi function steering wheel to enable this or can it just be operated through my rns 510 head unit as I only have the low line white instrument cluster that comes on the caddy. Also just wondering if VCDS is the same for all members of the VW group as it may need coding to get it to work and I know a few people on here who have helped me with VCDS before. Thanks for your help.

  8. Quick update, the light came on again and I took it in to the dealer who did a software update. Drove to work the next day and the exhaust warning light came on and stayed on this time, took it back in to the dealer and they cleared the fault and booked it in to have a proper look as the fault code said it was running rich. Turns out that it was a faulty oxygen sensor apparently. They also said that the spark plugs I fitted were the wrong ones but I ordered them from euro car parts with my number plate typed in and the correct details came up for my car. The car seemed to run exactly the same as before I changed the plugs, still with the other problem so I don't see how they were affecting the car. I will check the part number and see if they are correct. Does anyone have the correct part number? Any way, hopefully this is the end of the problems. Thanks for all the help and input, much appreciated.

  9. Not 100% about the air filter, will have to check. I will give it a bit of welly every journey now, but i tend to most of the time any way.

Not sure what it ran on before i bought it but i did run on normal unleaded for a little while as someone told me it doesn't really make a difference. I will be using vpower or momentum 99 from now on.

I don't sit with it ticking over a lot but I notice it when i am sitting in traffic and engine and oil are up to temperature. It does use a fair bit of oil tho.

Thanks for the help, will try and get it on a diagnostic at some point, will also definitely check the air filter.

  10. Ok, its due a service in about 2k miles any way and where I'm working at the moment, that won't take too long to do.

I will try and find someone local with diagnostics before i go to dealer as id like to see for myself before i take it in.

The revs do start like that when I start the car but while ticking over they start dropping off below 800 and then the engine seems to rev itself back up to 1000 then drops again, its like I'm revving it gently but without me touching the throttle. The car sounds like it will cut out, it definitely drops below 800 revs then the engine seems to rev slightly to get itself back on track, its kind of juddery.

Thanks for the tip about the pipe for the plugs as well, worked great.
