  1. Hi PC1212, Congratulations on owning the finest car Skoda have made ! I have the same car exactly but mine is a 2011 F L model and 3 .5 yrs old. I have done 21,000 miles and far so good but I get anxious when I read all the talk on here about the 1.8 TSI becoming oil burners and chain tensioners failing. Both requiring new engines at great cost. I know you have not had yours from new but does your's have any history of the above before you got it ? You seem to be the only guy I've seen on here who has a 1.8 TSI who is not complaining of these problems. Your comments and observations would be much appreciated please. I love my car and plan to keep it for a long time if all goes well and have extended my warranty just in case . Cheers and happy motoring !
  2. Hi, I can recommend Robert Eardley at Crewe, Skoda garage, if they are not to far from you. Always had good service from them.
  3. Hi Guys, Thanks for all the advice and of course you are quite correct. Ford also confirms it a no no so that settles it. However silver 1011 its certainly not for the chop as its only done 10,000 miles, has always been garaged and I have always maintained it myself, so it is still in showroom condition. Waxoiled underneath and everywhere and absolutely no rust on this one. Maybe in a few years it will be the last one around. Before this wifey had an original Mini for 28 years and that did have quite a bit of rust at the end. Cheers !
  4. Hi guys, I have an Octavia, but my wife has a Ford KA . The KA is a 2000 Reg basic model and is in excellent condition having done only 10,000 miles. Problem is it has only one airbag on drivers side. Can anyone tell me is it possible to retro fit an airbag on the passenger side? I won't be doing this myself, it will got to the Ford garage. Also, any idea of cost for bag and labour ?
  5. Thanks guys for all the help. Will get onto it in the near future and I'm sure I will be able to solve it with all these suggestions. Cheers Ken
  6. Hi , I know this is trivial, but its very irritating. My handbrake has become stiff to move. It's not the brakes binding. It appears to be the handle itself when I pull it up or release it. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Hoping for a fix before it gets worse. Thanks
  7. Hi, Yes mines the same. I have a Witter detatchable towball and pull a caravan with my Octavia hatch. I have to go down a narrow lane with speed bumps and when fully loaded I have to stop and crawl very slowly over the bumps or it bottoms out with a loud bang and I get an earful from wifey. The electric socket is ok. Seems we are call in the same boat. Thought it was just me and not seen it mentioned before so thanks for your post. Happy towing ! :sun:
  8. Hi Ednmra, many thanks for taking the trouble to reply. Glad to hear that you have had virtualy no trouble in 6 years. That's great and very heartening. I hope mine does so well. Interesting that our car history is so similar and I feel the same about motoring - never go flat out. Really enjoying the 1.8 but glad to hear the 1.4 is very similar as that's what I will be going for next time. I have done 19,000 in the 3 yrs. I'm sure your new one will look good in white and not long until December. A nice Xmas present ! Thanks again and happy motoring in 2015. Ken
  9. Hi Ednmra, Just seen your post which I find very interesting and can I please ask your advice. ? My present Octy is exactly like your current one - 1.8 TSI Elegance 61 plate, so only 3yrs old. So far no probs. I see your's is now 6yrs old and I will probably keep mine for same time and then, like you go for the 1.4 TSI next time in SE spec which is also fine for my needs. My question is have you had many (any ?) problems with your 1.8 over the six years you've had it and if not too much trouble could you give me a list to watch out for ? Have you had any trouble with the dreaded chain tensioner ? How many miles have you clocked ? I would be very grateful for any info on the 1.8 Thanks Ken
  10. Hi guys, thought you might be interested to hear of my experience with my aircon condenser. I have an 2011 Octavia Elegance 1.8 TSI (petrol) registered 1st Sept 2011. Yesterday I took it for its first MOT and 3 yr service (done 18,000 miles) and to check aircon as it was only partialy working on drivers side only and only cool, not cold. Fearing the worst - ie possible stone damage and a large bill, only to be told that there is a TPI/Recall for my car and it will be done under warranty, FOC. I was well pleased ! Going to have to wait a while for it to be done as Skoda UK out of stock at present !! Which says it all. Must be having to replace a great many. Not worried about waiting as summer's over and won't be needing the aircon. Reason for TPI was the condenser has a very small leak which is a fault. So perhaps this might apply to some of you guys as well. My garage is Robert Eardley at Crewe and I have always found them to be excellent so far. No other problems with car and passed MOT. Just hope the chain tensioner keeps going, but just in case have extended warranty for 2 more years.
  11. Yes erindad, it is still under warranty and booked in for MOT and 3yr service soon, so will get it checked out then, Just wondered what it was likely to be. Keep fingers crossed that a regas will solve it. Thanks all.
  12. Thanks guys for the advice, much appreciated. I will try a regas first and then go from their. Cheers
  13. Hi Guys, Problem with the aircon - it's working ok but it's not cold enough, even on full blast. Cool air coming through but it never gets really cold. Previous cars I've had would get ice cold if required. Car is Octavia 1.8 TSI Elegance 2011 petrol. Pretty certain it was ok last summer. What's likely to be the cause and how do I can I diagnose it ? I have made sure it's on Low and Dual. Any advice would much appreciated. thanks.
