  1. Hi all, I've been looking at this for ages and I have no idea what it is and if I should be worried about it. It has been like this for a while and I have never got round to asking what it is when the car has been in the garage for anything. The metal appears to be twisted on one side. It looks like it is on top of the power steering rack? It might not be, it just looks like a power steering rack, there seems to be two things that look like this! Can you tell I don't know much about cars? I'm getting there! Only been driving a year. Thanks in advance!
  2. Excellent guide thank you. I was such a numbnuts though, I didn't know the switch was adjustable (because I didn't read the guide all the way through!) and my brake lights were left stuck on after I refitted the dash! Stupid "Yeah, it'll be alright" attitude! Had no-one to check or reflections to see, ended up leaning phone against tool bag to video my testing!! Anyway sorted now! I guess this is just a reminder to follow the guide through if you are as stupid as me! Thanks again.
  3. Yeah, I think that may be it too. Looks tricky to remove I think. I may have a go anyway. I do seem to be experiencing symtoms that may be the result of a stuck open EGR valve. Rough idle and a shudder when I switch off the engine. I've cleaned out all the caked up throttle body, air flow and the other end of the EGR pipe (just below the throttle body).
  4. Hi, hope you can help me mate. I'm quite new to DIY mechanics! Where did you find the EGR valve on the AUB engine? And is it hard to remove? Thanks

  6. Hi guys, thought I would jump on this thread before I remove my EGR valve to give it a clean on my AUB engine. Still trying to hunt down the cause of fluctuating idle/low revs and was reading that this could be due to a stuck open EGR valve? I've already cleaned out the throttle body throughout. Anyhow, I'm going to remove it tonight and give it a clean. My question is, is there any harm with removing it from the electronics to take it inside to clean? This won't reset anything will it? Like the throttle body would? Sorry if its a silly question, I've only been driving three months! Cheers
  7. Yes, this is an old thread. But was an excellent read for me. Especially as I'm completely new to driving and am looking to remove the inlet manifold soon to give it a clean.
  8. Actually, I may just go for removing the inlet manifold and giving that a good clean. Looking down into it, it's caked up too. Is it really important to get new gaskets/seals when doing this? I've looked and the AUB engine doesn't have a gasket for both the inlet manifold and the throttle body, just rubber o-rings instead.
  9. That's something I'll look into definitely. I was going to use some engine flush next and change the oil to the best quality I can afford. Even though it had a full service a couple of months ago. It definately looked like no-one has removed the TB before. Thanks to everyone for their advice.
  10. Lifted it off without unplugging. Glad I did, a clean was very much needed! Before and after...
  11. A little reluctant to. Some people says it works and some say it does not. I may just try cleaning it without removing the cable from the TB.
  12. Hi, I've been having fluctuating revs on my Fabia mk1 1.4 16V on low to idle revs intermittently, which seem to go away when I clean the top of the throttle body with a quick spray of intake cleaner and give a good wipe. Now, I would like to remove the throttle body to ensure it is properly clean throughout, and my questions are: - If I remove the TB, clean and replace, will it need resetting by VAG.COM? Is this something I can manually do myself without it? When the engine is off, is it normal for the butterfly to be slightly ajar? I feel confident about removing the TB and cleaning, I'm just worried I'll mess up the settings. I've read stories of people online messing the settings up because of this. Thanks in advance.
  13. Thanks. Can suncream handprints really make it look like the lacquer is removed? I've got some Isopropyl alcohol, I'll give it a shot anyway.
  14. Hi, my Skoda Fabia Mk1 has a number of hand prints in different places which I first thought were oil that I could clean off. After putting it through the car wash and trying to get rid of them with WD-40, I'm having no luck. Upon a closer look at the hand prints they look like the lacquer is completely removed or corroded away. Can anyone suggest what I need to do to remove them? Is there anything I can apply to make it look better? Many thanks
