  1. Hi there. I have recently bought my third Skoda, a 2017 Superb L & K. Overall I love it. However, something a bit strange with the driver's side wing mirror. I have set up and stored the seat position for myself, and I am the only person who drives the car anyway. However, whenever I switch the engine on, the drivers side wing mirror resets itself, so I have to adjust it again every time I drive the car. So far as I understand, I have stored the mirror position alongside the seat position, but it keeps resetting. The other strange thing is that when I rest the driver's mirror, the wing mirror on the other side also moves, so I have to reset that as well. The drivers side mirror does not move when I alter the passenger side. Any suggestions?
  2. They are just down the road from me, which is convenient. I have used them for a service and MOT on my 2014 Superb. Everything seemed to be done well, and staff were appropriately polite. My only gripe is the on-line booking system. I went on to their website, looked up what dates they had availability, and then booked my car in. Following this, I received an email confirming that my car was booked in for a specific date and time. The next day they called to say they had no availability on that day, and that the first available slot would be nearly two weeks later. I was not very happy about this as the website showed they had available slots, and I had received a confirmatory email to say my car was booked in. The excuse given was that the online booking system is just there for you to request a slot, which is completely misleading as it implies you are booked in as does the subsequent email. Their on-line booking service clearly does not work properly, so I would recommend missing this step out and just phoning them to make any bookings.
  3. After three and a half years of fault-free motoring, the air con on my Superb suddenly stopped working last week. No build up - worked fine for a two-hour drive on a blisteringly hot day, but did not work at all on the way back. The car has just passed 50k miles. I assumed it needed a re-gas, and took it to a garage just down the road. They phoned me back a few hours later to say they thought that the compressor needed replacing, which I believe is quite a common fault. So I had that done along with a re-gas and picked up the car this afternoon. I might be wrong, but the air still does not feel very cold to me, although as it is not a hot day I cannot say for certain that the air con is not working. Any suggestions? I will probably take it back to the garage down the road once I decide whether the air is acceptably cold or not.
  4. I looked at both 140s and 170s when considering what to purchase, and I can honestly say I could not tell the difference when driving them. I don't believe there is a significant difference in economy either, so although I purchased a 170 in the end it was certainly not the deciding factor. I was more concerned about spec, and I found it quite tricky to find a car with the right spec for the price I wanted and had to travel to get one. The 140 might be a bit cheaper to insure and tax, but again I don't think the difference would be enough to be a deal-breaker.
  5. Thanks fo the replies. I've owned six diesels over the last ten years, a mixture of four cylinder and six cylinder cars, and I do generally find the economy is not as good in the winter. They typically take longer to warm up than the petrols I have owned, but most have been at full running temperature within ten minutes, which is why this seems abnormally long to me. But, this is my first Skoda which is why I am unsure if this is a fault or not. I have had a couple of cars which needed replacement thermostats, but in those cases I had the scenario described above of the car reaching optimum temperature in traffic, but then dropping once on the move. I do not have this here as the Superb seems to maintain its temperature once warmed up, but takes an excessively long time to get there when started from cold. Also, the thermostats have needed replacing at quite high mileages, and certainly not within the first 10k. I asssume there will be a first service due soon, at which point I will ask about this, but I think my question is whether this is something that needs addressing before that point?
  6. When I purchased my Superb in June, it reached full running temperature in a few minutes and regularly gave me 53mpg or even better. Since the weather has got colder, the mpg has dropped which is not unusual for a diesel, but I have also noticed that it takes ages to reach normal running temp when started from cold. It can take around 25 mins for the temperature gauge to reach 90, which makes me wonder if the thermostat is faulty? It is a 170 automatic, a year old with 9k on the clock.
  7. I've got a similar situation with mine, which is a 2014 ex-demonstrator. I was going to take it to a dealer, but I started noticing that the interior trim is a bit creaky in general, and it wasn't just the headlining. It's noticeable because I drive to work via country roads which tend to be bumpy, and the Superb has a bit of a fidgety ride (IMHO). I have come to think that fidgety ride and a few trim rattles are one of the negative aspects of this, which is partly based on other Skoda owners I know who say they have trim rattles. I would be very interested to hear if this is something that can be sorted out, so let us know how you get on.
  8. Thanks for the responses. In reply to Kenny's question, no I do not get the bleep when I push the reset button. The light goes off for about 1 second, but immediately comes back on again. I have tried keeping it continually pressed in case I was not holding it down long enough, but that did not make a difference.
  9. I have Skoda superb estate which is nearly 1 year old now. I bought it as an ex-demonstrator in June, since when the tyre pressure warning light has come on roughly once a month. I typically check the tyre pressure to find that one tyre has lost a bit more than the others (i.e is at 28, whereas the others are around 30), pump them all up, press the reset button and repeat the procedure after another four weeks. The tyre pressure warning light came on this week, I pumped up all the tyres and pressed reset only to find the warning light immediately came back on again and continued to do so every time I pressed the button. I checked the tyre pressures again this morning, which were largely unchanged, but still find the warning light immediately comes back on following reset. This suggests three possibilites to me: there is a problem with one of the tyres, there is a problem with one of the sensors, or there is a problem with the warning light. Does anyone have any idea what this means, or should I just take it to a dealer to get looked at?
  10. Well that certainly worked: instant payment! They may have paid up in the end, but I will not deal with them again, and I do not recommend them to other customers.
  11. Update: Despite initially looking promising, Citygate Skoda have not reimbursed me for the work they agreed to pay for on the car. Two months have passed since they received the invoice, and they have not responded to two subsequent emails asking when payment might be expected. I think a written complaint is now needed with a mention of the small claims court. Will keep people updated, but it seems to me that they have no intention of honouring their promises.
  12. Thanks for the replies. I initially thought it was the sunglasses holder, or at least the catch, but have put a cleaning cloth in there tightly to dampen it and rattle still present. Having the sunroof open does not relieve it, but it is less noticeable because the increased wind noise hides it a bit. Mine also comes and goes, but I think that it simply related to how even the road surface is. My drive to work each day is along bumpy rural roads, so I tend to notice it a lot, and it is also noticeable if you tap the trim with your fingers or let the sun visors snap back into place. It seems to be that the trim in front of the sunroof is not quite a tight enough fit, although I don't know if there is a fix for that?
  13. I've had my Skoda superb estate elegance for nearly two months now, and am generally really impressed with it. There is only one thing that is getting on my nerves, which is the presence of a bit of rattle from the roof trim whenever I go over a bump in the road. Now some people might not even notice this, but unfortunately trim rattles are a real bugbear of mine, even though virtually every car I have owned has had some to a greater or lesser extent. The car has a sunroof fitted, and the rattle emanates from the roof trim in front of the sunroof, around the courtesy lights. I recall a friend of mine had a Skoda Rapid a while ago, which generally served him well, but the one thing which annoyed him was trim rattles. I wondered if anyone else has this problem, whether it fixable, or whether I am just expecting a bit too much from this car?
  14. Latest update. After a couple of unanswered emails, I approached one of the managers. He agreed to the cost of refurbishing the wheel without hesitation. Re: the scratches, he trotted out a predictable line that had the scratches been there when the vehicle was sold they would have been detected when the vehicle was inspected - although had the vehicle really been inspected properly I assume the curbed alloy wheel would have been detected as well as the marks on the interior trim! However as a "good will gesture", he agreed to pay half the cost of having the back bumper re-sprayed. That's as good a result as I could have expected, so reasonably happy, although my point that the vehicle clearly was not checked over properly before sale remains. Other than that I have to say the car is great and I have thoroughly enjoyed driving to work in it this week, particularly when I look at how much better the fuel consumption is than in any car I have owned previously!
  15. Hello everyone. I've just purchased a Skoda Superb from these people. I'm going to give these guys a chance to come good, but so far there's a few things I was not happy about. I arranged to buy an ex-demo model which was at Colindale, but greed to pick it up from the Watford branch. The salesman, Tim, had agreed to include 6 months tax, mats and a full tank of diesel both by phone and via email. When I checked the car, I noticed there was less than half a tank of fuel. Mentioned this to the salesman dealing with me, who went off to inquire, and returned to say that Tim denied agreeing to the full tank of fuel. I argued the case, and was told that they would not fill the tank but if I sent them a receipt for £40 of fuel they would reimburse me. I agreed to this warily and asked for them to put it in writing. I checked over the vehicle prior to purchase as best I could, as it was raining heavily and the vehicle was covered in water making it very difficult to accurately assess the bodywork. I noticed that the alloy wheels on one side had been curbed, one quite badly, so the salesman went to get one of the managers, Shawn, who said that they would pay for me to have the wheel refurbished. Again I requested this in writing, to which the manager said he would send me an email confirming this. I also noted the sunscreen had some marks which I insisted they clean off there and then, which they did. Needless to say no email has arrived. When I got home, I gave the vehicle a wash and discovered some quite nasty scratches around the boot area which had been hidden by the rain. I know they will probably say that's tough, as I should have checked the vehicle more carefully prior to purchase, but I have emailed them a photo of these asking if they will pay to have them attended to. I'm getting a quote for the alloys tomorrow, and will get a quote for the scratches at the same time. They have not replied to this email either. So at the moment, they could still come good and reimburse me the £40 for fuel, cover the cost of getting the badly curbed wheel refurbished, and maybe offer a contribution/pay to get the scratches around the boot sorted. However, the fact that they denied having agreed to the fuel, had not prepared the car to an acceptable standard and have not given me written confirmation of agreements makes me feel that I may end up out of pocket with these people. Will let you know how things progress.
