Replace Steering Wheel
Hi, My 2012 FL Octavia is high mileage and I want to replace the steering wheel. My main criteria are: I don't want to spend a fortune It's non multi-function It's new/barely used Leather would be nice but doesn't have to be. Any ideas of what would fit? Brand new steering wheels seem to be £££.

Apple CarPlay
Just saw this. It was a SPH DA230DAB and it was fine with my iPhone SE 2020. It is not working well with my iPhone 12 though so not sure I'd recommend.

Droning noise from front of car
Final one on this in case anyone was following. I noticed "stepping" on the front tyres a month ago. Got the front wheels swapped left to right and got the tracking done. The sound has more or less gone away now.

Droning noise from front of car
Just an update on this. I think this is tyre noise as the sound seems to be subsiding. It may just be the particular point in the lifetime of the tyre was creating the noise.

Flashing coil light 😱
So this is now fixed at a costs of about a grand. Skoda didn’t cover it. Unsurprising at 11 years and 126k miles! Car driving really well now though.

Flashing coil light 😱
Two years protection but it was done in 2017. I think you're right that my chances are slim but I'll ask the question.

Flashing coil light 😱
A bit more on this. I called a local VAG specialist and he says that the EGR valves have been redesigned as a result of failures. It is very likely related to the software update and he also says that some people have successfully claimed replacement costs from Skoda. Not sure if anyone else has had experience of this? If not, I'm looking at a grand to fix it.

Flashing coil light 😱
It actually has had the update quite a few years ago now. At least I now know what I’m dealing with!

Flashing coil light 😱
I’ve got the fault code P046C00. Faulty EGR valve which is apparently a nightmare to replace on the 1.6tdi engine. I’ve had this car from new. It’s 11 years old and it’s now done 126,000 miles.

Droning noise from front of car
Yes I had picked up on this actually. Something resonating.

Flashing coil light 😱
Thanks. It happened attempting an overtake. I stopped the car and switched engine off. Restarted and light was off so drove on. Fairly fast road and it came on again after maybe 5 to 10 miles and quite possibly uphill but I can’t recall the exact spot. On the way back I took it much easier, driving gently and the light didn’t come on so what you’re describing is consistent with what happened. And it is a diesel, yes.

Flashing coil light 😱
All seems to be working.

Flashing coil light 😱
Hi I got the flashing coil of doom earlier and the car went into limp mode. I know I need to get the error codes checked out. Is there any way of cheaply doing this myself to get a feel for what the issue might be?

Droning noise from front of car
I am sometimes, yes. Although it’s not always consistent.

Droning noise from front of car
This is a good idea. It might be worth checking the wheel balance.

Droning noise from front of car
I had the garage take it out for an extended drive this week. They are a bit baffled but it is looking increasingly like it might be tyre related since it’s related to speed rather than anything else. They don’t think it’s clutch related.

Droning noise from front of car
I have tried but they couldn’t “recreate” the issue.

Droning noise from front of car
Ok thanks for the suggestions. The noise now only seems to happen between 60 and 65 mph. It’s very odd and worried this could take a while to diagnose. Also a bit concerned about safety since I don’t know what it is.

Droning noise from front of car
Just an update on this. The speed at which this droning is happening continues to change which is really pointing it against being a wheel bearing. But today I realised that if I depress the clutch pedal whilst this droning is happening, the noise subsides, only to return when I bring the clutch back up. So I'm thinking this may be the throw out bearing which, until today, I'd never heard of.

Humming noise at 60mph
@Mac_ If I find the issue, I'll post it here: Droning noise from front of car - Skoda Octavia Mk II (2004 - 2013) - BRISKODA

Humming noise at 60mph
@cutlerl12 @Mac_ I'm also experiencing a similar issue. Did you ever get to the bottom of it? My next step would be wheel bearing but given it's not progressive and only between 60 and 70 (ish), it may not be that. In fact when it started it was happening between 30 and 40.
-
Droning noise from front of car
Yes indeed. The thing is that it initially started droning between 30 and 40 and then again between 60 and 70. If it was a bearing you'd expect it to get progressively worse as the car goes faster. It kind of suggests some kind of vibration. I no longer hear the noise between 30 and 40. The brakes were changed only in January so unlikely to be that but I will take a look. I can also try braking at speed and seeing if the noise goes away under braking.

Droning noise from front of car
So I swapped the wheels so that rules out that option but thank you.
