  1. You will be looking at a Mechatronics unit change. I notice you are in the North West. If near Carlisle, Dan at the VAG Doctor in Brampton can change these and it will be cheaper than dealer prices, plus he is qualified to work on them.
  2. See you haven't got an answer for this. The the man to speak to is Dan the VAG Doctor just west of Carlisle in Brampton which isn't that far from you. It should behave normally. Dan will plug it in and has retrofitted loads of Cruise controls so will know what a fix is.
  3. Now resolved. Seems the garages who changed the pads didn't lubricate the calipers correctly. Pulled back rubber seal and fill of rust. Yanked it out, lubricated up and refitted. All working as should now and Leicester to Coningsby Lincs, and achieved 56mpg. Money saved but I will have to try and keep them lubed up every 6 months or so to prevent a repeat performance Thanks all
  4. Update: the front driver's side brake pad has been rubbing slightly but brake disc still ok. Was only replaced just under 2 years ago and it's gone again. The calipers on these cars really are a joke More money. Car will be parked up now until I get paid. Ffs.
  5. Well have drove from Plymouth and now stopped at Leicester services. After Bristol Mpg started to improve and power improved to above 50mpg after being driven at 2500rpm. Came off at Evesham turn off for A46 and after while of speed changes up and down for the roundabouts it's gone back to lower power and higher fuel consumption again. Think the turbo is sticking and a faulty one fitted is my bet. If it is that it will be done on warranty as it's only been in a week
  6. Just had a new Turbo fitted to my Octavia 1.9 PD Tdi 105 (BKC) with DSG box. New glow plugs and feed pipes replaced and car feels a lot stiffer to drive, doesn't want to change up where it used to before and drinking far more fuel. All brakes checked and no sign of sticking calipers, wheels move freely etc. Also notice power delivery from the turbo is not that smooth (sudden boost above 2500rpm) but a bit lacklustre before that. Could there be a restriction somewhere, or turbo poorly primed? Would appreciate some advice please
  7. They knew there was a problem, but failed to find the fault. Took it to Grey Gables (Curbridge, Witney). I have bigger problems to worry about now (new shocks, top mounts & bearings, wheel bearing).
  8. Many Thanks Battery has been replaced recently, first thing I did but didn't solve the issue. Cam sensor and temperature sensor were sending the correct reading during a measuring block test. Sometimes it will start fine when its hot, but more often than not it will struggle, so the starter motor brushes are likely to be the problem. Will cost around £200 for that, and at this moment in time, I can't afford to replace it. Both shocks are being replaced, along with top mounts and bearings. Wheel bearing mentioned above Thanks for the link, will do some fishing. Up in Birmingham this weekend (barring anymore issues on the way back on Thursday) so will see if someone up there can look at it.
  9. Hi all, My poor car has had many trips to the garage in recent weeks for various things and booked in for more repairs. Skoda Octavia 1.9 PD TDI DSG. 109953 miles. 05 plate First started with the hot start problem. This has been into my idependant and the stealers, but no fault found, no fault codes. O/S/Front break caliper seized and shredded the pads and ruined the disk. Replaced both front pads and disks. Realised on inspection that O/S/F shock absorber showing excessive movement. Parts have just arrived, booked in on the 3rd August into my local indy (when I have the cash to pay for it all). Also being carried out on the 3rd is replacing the N/S/F CV boot as it has come lose. They may just tighten it up but may as well replace it for what its worth. O/S/F Wheel bearing on the way out. Also being replaced on the 3rd. Air con being re-gassed on Friday, but that the least of my worries right now And today on the road, I could have sworn I had a miss fire while doing 70ish. Would this be a pointer in why I am having issues starting when hot, and what could that issue be. Again no faults displayed on the dash Getting to the point where I may have to cut my losses and get rid. Any help guys?
  10. The ones you need for your car are slightly more expensive. £53.24 to be exact. I have PM'd you the link as I am not privy to posting links of super cheap deals on parts on a public forum. While stocks last and all that
  11. B4's for mine soon too. Can get for £40 each if you know where to look. Also, is it worth changing the links as well as the top mount bearings and struts?
  12. I have 17" Alloys on my Elegance, with 225/45 R17 Tyres. Rougher ride however, but handled fine in the winter.
  13. What he said. Parking on a slope requires precision, and use of the handbrake with a light bit of thottle until you can feel it biting then release the handbreak. Another tip is when stationary on a slope in between forward and reverse, knock the shifter into Neutral to release the pressure on the clutches and DMF. Took me a while to get the hang of it
