  1. Thanks for the suggestions. I'm trying a breakers at the moment. If not I'll go the non-auto route to get it through the MOT and try to get an auto switch later. I'm just not very good with electrics so was not sure the different types were interchangeable. There seem to be several about with different serial numbers . Mine is 1Z0941431J and I have seemn them with 431K etc.
  2. Does anyone know if spare parts will still be coming into the country now there are so many problems with customs? I've just had a MoT failure on my L&K Mk 2 estate as the headlight switch will no longer pull out to switch on the fog lights. I'd not had to use it for over a year so hadn't noticed it. Now it seems there are no spares in this country and no idea when they might come in again. I've found a second hand switch in Lithuania (!) but obviously that may also get held up by customs. Has anyone heard of these sort of problems recently? Goes without saying that if anyone out there has a spare auto switch I'd be happy to buy it off them.
  3. My 2 litre Tdi estate is a 2010 model and it was fine till 18 months ago it started doing odd things like that. I ignored it for a while but when it started afecting the abs etc it went in for a replacement of the module in the steering column. I can't be specific about what they did but it is now fine. I guess the module strted to go wrong so the replacement has cured it. If you can ignore the symptoms for now it costs nothing but maybe in time other things may become apparent?
  4. Thanks Tilt I had this problem when I started using the vacuum sticker and saw a post explaining why (because of the heat leaching out the air) which was why I favoured the glued option. This has worked for about a year despite being parked in the sun for 2 weeks when on holiday. I think the glue patch began to fail as the camera was hit on a number of occasions by the sun visor. I have already ensured it doesn't come crashing to the floor by looping the cable round te mirror stalk and as the cable also feeds from under the head lining I'm fairly confident. A good idea of yours though which may enable me to do a neater job. Thanks.
  5. My Dash cam has just decided to fall off the screen. I have cleaned the double sided tape off and remounted with the cvacuum mount but this is less than ideal. When I used this mount before it dropped off regularly as the sun changed the pressure in the vacuum and it's a bt larger than the stuck on unit. I've looked at replacement mounts but they seem a bit pricey for what you get so thought I might try to use double sided adhesive. Has anyone tried this and do you have any recommendations for the most secure tape?
  6. I have been doing a search for a dash cam for a few weeks and am finding it very difficult to make up my mind. There seems to be no consistent place to go for comparisons across all the plethora of kit on the market. Best place which seems to have well reasoned arguements is http://www.techmoan.com/guide-to-dashcams/ but he has only reviewed a limited number of machines. If it's vfm you are looking for you might want to think about one he has reviewed. Personally I would not go for a 'hidden' one as I think it is worth being able to point to the camera if you need to enter a discussion with another driver.... I would remove the camera from the screen when I park the car,
  7. I've had issues with the rear wiper not clearing the screen properly since I had the car. Replaced the blade with a new one and it made no difference. I have tried (once again) to flatten the blade as it seems the spring is not strong enough to press the pre curved arm flat to the glass so I get a 3 inch unwiped area in the middle. I'm thinking of replacing the whole unit woth a better one with more spring tensioners. However, may try to adjust the spring tension first. Is this possible?
  8. I have the same model and year as you. I seem to have all the toys you mention, including the auto dimming mirrors. How have you tested it? It only comes in to play when it senses headlights behing as fas as I remember. I certainly never experience and blinding from rear headlights. I presume it is linked to the central mirror which also self dims. Does yours have this feature? If not I guess you don't have it. Also is it set on auto?
  9. Just renewed my annual insurance and was fed up with premiums increasing each year so I rang Chris Knott. Service was easy and quick and they managed to reduce my premium compared to other companies. Docs arrived on e-mail very quickly and once I had paid and provided proof of current NCB I had a nice tag to attach to my car keys so if they are lost they can be returned swiftly. My one issue is that the tag is a bit flimsy so I expect it to break off quite quickly so I shall continue to leave my memory stck attached so a finder can contact me.
  10. You can do a 2 press unlock on key fob and all the doors will open. Alternatively you can open all doors once you get in, using the central unlock button. Or if you always want the single press to unlock all doors I did change my second key to do this. Instructions are in the handbook but I seem to remember it can be accessed on my set up - but I expect it depends on your unit installed. You then need to associate the settings with the key fob.
  11. I had a similar problem. Happened on both front windows at the same time. Glass went half way up then stopped and went down again. Quite worrying in the rain & cold but a few tries and it cleared and not happened since so I suspect the 'safety feature' was the cause and a good clean of glass edges and seals may do the trick.
  12. Like Bazzer I've had a lack of display on my screen when selecting reverse. Works fine normally but if the radio has been on then there is no display. Beeps still work though. Switching the radio (or music) off doen't make it work but if I switch the engine off and on again it works fine. Dealer was unable to find a fault but I guess they just plugged in the diagnostics and it doesn't show up.
  13. Just make sure you don't have the auto dipping rear mirror as I believe this might interfere with the sensor?
  14. I didn't find them very good. I had a price for PX on my Fabia and then got an estimate on line but when I took the car in they 'discovered' so many paintwork chips they reduced the price to next to nothing. Decided to just walk away and return to PX idea but they spent an hour 'negotiating' with their boss on the phone and I ended up at the original price I would have got PX. I'm no worse off but I wasted a lot of time for no return. Couldn't recommend them.
