  1. Car is a 2010 Octavia Scout 2.0 Diesel PD. Its on 261500 miles, owned from new , always serviced when variable calls for it + oil & filter approx 1/2 way between services, on its 3rd clutch Yesterday I did a 570 Mile drive there and back Car faultless going, It was only about 10 miles on each journey on normal roads, the rest M5 & M6 ( Taunton to J38 truckstop in the lake district ) Returning as I got to the M5 / M6 interchange after many miles in top I went to change gear, no resistance until the pedal was about 25mm from the floor, pedal stayed down and had to pull it back up with my foot, a few more changes after that and the pedal always returned but there was still only resistance for the last 25mm. From then on I left it in top and set the cruise on 90 only slowing for roadworks and when traffic dictated it. Came off the M5 at Taunton and it was still just resistance for the last 25 mm but as I drove through the city it slowly improved and by the time I had covered about 6 miles home it had returned to normal. Today its been perfect. Im assuming its a heat related combined with old age issue but anyone any other thoughts and more importantly is it the sign of another problem starting to develop. Thanks in advance for any help Stuart
  2. Hi Haven t been on here for many years, Ive still got the 2010 Octy Scout Diesel, now on 261500 Miles as the daily and an Alfa for Fun Days Hi to any of you who remember me Now off to the other the other forums for a poke around Stuart
  3. Number 7 on here , 192000 miles and still going strong , brilliant cars
  4. This thread just popped up on my e mails , first time back here for a long time, I was 7th on here , 8 years and 176000 miles later I’ve still got the car and it’s still the family workhorse , Brilliant car
  5. Are you living in the highlands now , long time since I’ve caught up with you , if yes just a tadge jealous , Hampshire is rammed with people
  6. I’m struggling to even see the vehicle , was it you in avoid speeding ticket mode ??
  7. Colin Brains Doing Ok, it was many years ago Mine was a Hatch & ended up heavily modified Re Antiroll bars the ones off the R32 fit, there are 2 diameters, get the thicker ones, I had the R32 on the front & Jabbasport built me a bespoke one for the rear as it saved modifying ( read beat with a hammer ) the spare wheel well to fit the rear but everyone else I knew at the time who did the mod slightly changed the shape of the spare wheel well For suspension I ran KW Variant 3, I tried the 2 but found it had a habit of a nasty rebound occasionally when taking undulating roads at naughty speeds . Power ended up at 352, kept at 1800 cc but ran S3 Pistons & from memory forged rods, Turbo was upgraded using the IHI & bespoke manifold, again from Jabba, they managed to wring I think 225 out of the motor on the std Turbo so worth a chat to them about remaps if thats all you want to do, Gearbox came from a TT . The std box has shorter gears than the VRS & I found myself on the limiter in top once it was tuned, If you arent going for big Power the shorter geared box will give you better acceleration than the VRS but give a slightly less economical car . Initially we fitted the VRS gear cluster into it which gave a better top end but the Increase in Power ate 3rd one day, Hense swapping for the TT box which has stronger gears, I think it needed a shorter drive shaft one side which came s/hand off an Audi S3 if you are pushing the power you may need to upgrade the clutch, I think initially we fitted a clutch from a Corrado but once the bigger turbo was fitted that was quickly eaten For Brakes I ran AP 4 Pots 335x32 with DS2500 pads which were squeezes inside 17" wheels, kit built by Ian Godney at Godspeed Interior I swapped from a Golf , cant remember the model but the seats were Recaro full leather & black so looked OK with the std door cards, Steering wheel was the leather one out of a L&K Mk1 Octy, If youi switch that DISCONECT the battery whilst doing it, it eliminates the slight risk of the airbag going off which would be a tadge exciting, If your not really confident get a garage to do that as it has to be right incase you have need of the airbag one day Jabbasport did 95% of the work on the car so if you have any technical questions or want work done I would recommend them If you trawl back through the threads I posted most of it at the time, its a car I really regret selling & have a couple of times tried to find it to buy back with no success It was built specifically to do Cannonball runs, did 4 & managed a second, the joy of beating so called supercars was a joy, I can remember going into Italy flat out side by side with a Ferrari 360, I couldnt beat him but he couldnt beat me, the speedo was starting its second lap, was past the trip window & heading back up. In the twisties it was more than a match for anything
  8. Can anyone guide me as to how you fit the high level brake light into a mk2 facelift estate. My cars a 10 plate scout but I assume it's the same as any estate Im thinking you have to do it from the inside but how much do you really have to strip off the door thanks in advance
  9. German Gov are talking about random on road tests on Diesels, that's a very smart move as it will show haw bad all the other manufacturers are , it wont even prove how they are cheating, it will show the cars on the road are all the same, being cynical I doubt BMW or Merc will fare badly but all companies are doing all they can to sell cars. As with all things the lawyers are fuelling there own cash cow !! We bought an Abarth, build quality was " pants " I bought an Alfa, so far Ok but what a car to drive The SLK is brilliant Engineering The Scout just goes on & on & on, brilliant work Horse, Nought wrong with German engineering as far as quality is Concerned , This for me is a plus as the next Skoda will be cheaper
  10. The motor industry is interlinked, it wont only be VAG What staggers me the most is The EU spend BIllions employing many people to bring in rules on emissions & then don't test the cars independently in the real environment. Once again its Total Incompetence by those we elect & employ . something like the Nurburgring would make a great test track, hills , slow corners, fast corners & a long queue to get on I bet many athletes would be glad if they only had to submit drug tests that they took long before an event & weren't tested when performing, not an ideal comparison but you can hopefully see the logic of what I'm saying. Real world tests are the only way & if I were VAG I would be pushing for that to show how others are manipulating things,
  11. And its well known how jets directly inject pollutants into the atmosphere, logistics companies consistently try & find ways of dragging products all around the world & doing it as quickly as they can by air so massively increasing pollution. OK "Relax" that's a controversial comment & not meant as that but just to illustrate that whoever we are & whatever business we work for we all polute & try to justify it to suit us. I often wonder if we all kept cars for 20-30 years how much better the planet would be, OK direct pollutants might be higher but how much pollution is created building & scrapping millions of cars & older cars like the Pug 205 Diesel did 50-60 to the Gallon so less fuel needed Like most things in life what we want & what business wants always bends arguments & statistics to suit itself, remember all those Tobacco companies who insisted smoking was safe, all those innocent bankers, all those innocent governments, sadly as humans we all sit in our Ivory towers arguing points in the way that either suits us or sticks others in the medias eyes to distract from what we want
  12. Its all a German "smokescreen" to try & get their invitation to thousands of people to come and live in Europe out of the news
  13. This is the tip of the Iceberg, live road tests as many have stated hardly any cars achieve anything like the claimed figures & a lot are many many times over & in time it will become apparent other manufacturers have tweaked things. Other companies will be quietly "pooping themselves" as VAG cant be the only ones at it & people need to take a realistic view of that. How many have stood up & said "we don't cheat" Its all very quiet from others Ive heard rumours another German manufacturer is now reloading software to every car through their telematics systems...., probably just another rumour We all need to take a balanced view & that will take time , we need to wait for all the facts Being realistic if we all want our money back or all want to sue then VAG will fold, then our cars will be worth didly squat & getting spares will be a nightmare
  14. We are reaching a point where with car production becoming more & more efficient as a whole there is more capacity than customers so were VAG to take a big kicking it will help others Somehow the industry needs to loose capacity so it would benefit Ford & GM ( American, not saying any more ) if VAG were to loose many sales I can see this only getting messier with a lot of mud slinging as other manufacturer cheats come to light Only plus for us is VAG make good cars, factories have to be kept running so there could be some rather nice discounts coming We all now this environmental stuff is bent & twisted to benefit manufacturers & wherever in life there's money to be made someone twists things to help if they can. Even Governments do, this is a 2009 article but shows how our government had been giving guidelines to councils to phase traffic lights to make us use more fuel & pay more tax http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/7998182.stm
  15. The not modified from factory spec I can see manufacturers promoting as taken literally you can only fit manufacturers parts at servicing, likewise if it comes with Pirreli tyres that's what you have to fit etc etc etc , its a licence to print money & as cars age parts prices will rise to get them off the road so you buy new ones & as many manufacturers are not selling all they can produce they have to shift new cars somehow, that's a huge huge negative on the Enviroment with all the energy used to make new cars but as always the Eurocrats cant see beyond the end of their noses Flip the other way on performance cars you have dealer fit options after its bought, about 5 mins after will do. Anything dealer fit at present is except from its as new tests. I commented that the front number plate on my Alfa would cut through a pedestrian in an accident as it is fitted about 25mm proud of the front of the car, transpires its a dealer fit item so not on the car when tested for impact on pedestrians *( and I assume not there on the emission / mpg tests either )

  17. I would be amazed if Skoda would do deals to undercut their dealers . All I know is a day on the phone got me a cracking deal from a dealer I could meet. In the end if your happy go with it
  18. The last 2 Skodas Ive purchased I have obtained the best deal I could from a broker, then obtained a list of dealers from Skoda & rung around the local dealers until I found one to match it or in one case beat it by £50. I always prefer a face to face deal & after all brokers only use a deal they have negotiated with a dealer. It just takes a little effort . Try near the end of the month / quarter as sometimes that gets a bit more off
  19. Went to Goodwood & watched it, traffic absolutely awful, 2.5 hours instead of 40 mins, car park a bogy field ( glad I hat the Scout, 2WD definitely an issue for many ) Planes were truly awesome as was the weather, so glad I persevered in the traffic, really a memourable day A big thanks to the brains behind it as well as those who took part. A fitting tribute to so many who fought & to those who died for this country
  20. If you leave the North today you could get here for tomorrow
  21. VRS to me is a great road car but no more, The Scout is a great car & workhorse, The 4x4 ability has been a godsend on quite a few occasions & the greater ride height means it can go places a road car cant. & as Ive said before residuals are better. IMHO it makes for a better family car & when you are going where others cant its a good feeling A sporty 4WD car is the answer but Skoda still don't build one but theres always a hope one day they will. I converted a Mk1 4x4 many years ago, Kw Suspension, Huge Brakes, 6 Speed TT box etc etc and tweaked to 356 bhp, now that's the car Skoda should have built As with most things its personal opinion & lifestyle dependant
