  1. Interesting question, it's not wasted energy having "more" noise from exhaust... as the exhaust system baffles the sound (absorb to dissipate at heat energy) so it's there anyway. If you like the sound, technically less energy is wasted as sound because it's useful to you, rather than wasted as heat in the surroundings.... Edit: whereas the "sound device" wastes energy as it requires extra electrical energy to produce the sound, on top of that wasted by baffling the exhaust.
  2. Saw this, made me happy how good it looks. Didn't care about the words. Had to share. Wife wouldn't care. Came to forums, found similar post. 😂 https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-cumbria-55724754
  3. I was pointed (by this forum) to this site for tyres and complete wheels. Just bought 2 tyres recently, no probs turning up and getting them fitted. Saved £80 by not getting them at a large tyre fitter. https://www.tyres-pneus-online.co.uk Incidentally, these tyres were "seal inside" tyres. A third option instead of gunk/goop or a spare. No use with blow outs (but recovery will help there), but even relatively large punctures in the main tread are sealed instantly without needing to stop, or reduce your speed. The "repair" requires the scraping back of the seal layer (stuck on the inside on the tyre), inserting plug, and replacing the seal over the top. Seems to work well. Has saved me having to rescue the wife a number of times.
  4. That sucks. Hopefully the GAP and main insurance will kick in. Were you bins collected that day?
  5. Apparently there are different versions of the same engine? Some with water pumps driven off the main belt and others an aux. Apparently if main belt (etc) is changed, due to tension changes, it'll likely to lead to a leak developing if the pump is not changed at the same time.
  6. Ah yeah, sorry misread your post on the codes. It would be great if that was the case with Skoda Techs. I always assumed a good indi would have more experience at sorting out a problem like stuck plugs as they probably deal with more "older" cars rather than those inside warranty.
  7. Most of the posts on this I've seen mention a code / multiple codes with 1, 2, 3 or 4 on the end to suggest which plug is dodgy... Did they check/report the resistance of each plug? Bit more info on them here http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=79819 I guess the spray will be that pipe freezing stuff. Luckily mine wasn't jammed when i changed one. Any independents round you?
  8. Check the springs - mine broke in the bottom cup - wasn't noticeable as it still supported the car as the break was very low down. Thinking about it, it seemed to "creak" over speed bumps.
  9. Hmm.... From 210,000km with no time interval to 140k or 5 years Service manuals (including service schedule) posted here if anyone hasn't seen them: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/355687-service-specifications/
  10. My 64 plate (2015) 2.0 CRDI does this too (Elegance estate). I asked the online chat at Skoda UK about this and got this reply: "Regarding your question about the delay when starting the vehicle, our Technical Team have advised that the retailer has to diagnose the vehicle and can decide if any technical literature matches the symptoms you have described. They are not aware of the issue and advise if you experience the symptoms again, try to take it back into the Retailer as soon as possible so that they have a better chance of replicating the issue and diagnosing the fault."
  11. Thanks for the replies. I checked with Skoda too, unsurprisingly: I have liaised with my internal Technical Support Team and I can confirm that the recommended servicing intervals is every 5 years or 140,000 miles, whichever comes first.
  12. Still not great as owned by Johnson's.... Call center again not rude but hate not speaking to the dealership directly. Also, they added £60 to the online Skoda price, which they said they'd have to match if asked. Anyone any recent experience of dealing with them?
  13. I've got 4 degrees, including a PhD. And I can't add 5 to 15. Moron. 🤦‍♂️ The car is 5 in Jan (reg'd Jan 15), but still low millage. However as rubber etc ages I'll have to bite the bullet. Thanks for the replies.
  14. Hi, Not had any water pump issues on my 2.0 CRDI Elegance. Only done 30k miles.... Seems 4 years is short for a cam belt change? Especially with such low mileage in normal heat/dust conditions. What do you think please? Feel held hostage somewhat by the thought of catastrophic failure.... Ta
