  1. It is a known problem. The mechtronics unit on my 1.2 TSI, 2016 Yeti (with 6200 miles at the time) failed at the end of September this year. The dealer that it was towed to also denied that it was a known problem. Whilst waiting the 12 days it took to get the parts and fix, I looked things up on this forum and elsewhere. There was a software fix released 2 months before my car left the factory which did not appear to have been applied. Though why a car should be allowed t o leave the factory with a known problem is something that has not been explained to me. The dealer I bought the car from assured me that they check for any updates whenever they service the car and, looking at th he VAG site, my car shows as not needing any updates... though, after having a replacement mectronics unit fitted and configured, it shouldn't. Fortunately, the work was done under the warranty.
  2. Many moons ago, when Noah's dog was a pup, I picked up some 'Griptracks'. I have used them in both mud and snow with satisfactory results. They consist of two lengths (about 2' 6") of yellow plastic tread that you put close in front of the driving wheels. They give enough traction to get you moving a d, if you tie suitable lengths of string/cord to them, they get pulled along until you can stop to retrieve them. The pair of them only weigh a few pounds and, being flat, just store nicely behind the back seat. Can't compete with winter tyres but can get you moving in an emergency.
  3. Thank you Skoda1982, I've had another look and realised that I was using the wrong locking point. It works fine now. Thanks again.
  4. We learned yesterday that our 2 year old granddaughter has grown big enough and strong enough to reach and pull the rear door release lever. She did this just before we set off, so I immediately went to the door, removed the gromit and used the key to set the child safety lock, as shown in the manual. I checked to see if the door could be opened from the inside and was disappointed to find that it could. I was even more disappointed to find the same with the other rear door as well. I've looked at the manual and couldn't find anything else relating to the child safety locks. Am I missing something? Or is there likely to be a fault?
  5. Got the car back yesterday. New mechtronic fitted and now running as well as ever. Skoda Assist have been great. Questions: 1) Is there anything I can do to minimise the chances of a repeat failure? 2) I was not aware of any advanced warning of failure last time; is there anything that I should be on the lookout for in future?
  6. I have downloaded the APP, entered the car's details and learned that it's production date is given as 23 June 2016. It was 1st registered in September 2016. Nobody has ever suggested any update or recall to me.
  7. I have managed to speak to the garage that my car has been taken. I've been told that the failure is in the selector mechanism and that a replacement unit has been ordered. I'm told that the unit is chassis specific (???) and is due to be delivered in 10 days, then the Master Tech will have to either travel to the garage or have the car relocated to a dealership nearer to where he is. So, I have a better idea as to what has failed but not why on such a low mileage vehicle or when I can expect the repair to be completed.
  8. I have a 2 year old 1.2 TSI Yeti with the 7 speed DSG gearbox (6240 miles on the clock) On Saturday, whilst en route to our holiday destination (2 adults,1 small dog on board), everything was running as smooth as a nut. We started driving up a hill and there was quiet, phutt noise, a drop in revs and the car coasted to a halt before rolling backwards down the hill. This was disconcerting for me and even more so for the car's following. I managed to roll backwards into a lay-by. I stopped and restarted the engine but the gearbox refused to engage. I tried manually selecting 1st but it still wouldn't engage Skoda Assist sent the AA who took us to the nearest Skoda dealer. I am still waiting for any feedback from the garage as to what has gone wrong and how long it will take to fix. I'm somewhat dischuffed about a gearbox problem on such a young, low mileage car (at least it is still well within warranty). Has anyone else experienced this problem and what was the outcome? P.S. Skoda Assist have been great, arranging the AA, a taxi for us, dog and luggage to our holiday destination and a courtesy vehicle until ours is fixed.
  9. I have had my Yeti SE 1.2 TSi with DSG for just over 12 months and have done around 3600 miles. Much of my driving is into town and back but I have had some longer runs. I am pleased with the fuel consumption so far. On a long run to Norfolk at a steady 65 on the motorway and good A roads, it returned 54 mpg. Whilst in pure town driving it drops to around 38 mpg, averaged out over the year (according to the Fuel checking APP on my phone) it has been averaging 43 mpg. Just got back from a week's holiday in North Devon and driving from Somerset into the lumpy bits of North Devon and then back over Exmoor (including via Linton & Lynmouth and Porlock) it returned 45 mpg.
  10. I have got one of the 'hammocks' to cover the back seats in mine. It has straps that go round the headrests on the rear and front seats, covers both the rear seat its back and the back of the front seat. There are velcro slits in it to pass a retaining strap through to fasten to the seat belt fittings, the other end I clip to the dog's harness and, being a 'hammock', if I have to brake suddenly, the dog is supported by the cover and does not risk injuring herself by falling off the seat. The hammock that I have got also has a zip half way along at the front. This allows you to fold the cover down on one side so as to allow a back seat passenger to sit alongside the dog. If you buy one of these in a pet shop, they are expensive (around £20) but they also sell them in The Range for about £10. I bought mine from Aldi for £4.59 (and a second one for my wife's CityGo).
  11. I have had a 1.2 Yeti SE with the DSG gearbox since October - With mixed driving, I am averaging 41 but get slightly better, around 43 on a steady run on A roads/motorways.
  12. My wife has a CityGo (2016) and I have a Yeti (also 2016) and we have both experienced this problem. We have not found any evidence of leaks and have put it down to :- water on shoes when wet, ditto on coats and the irritating habit that we both have of breathing when in the car. In addition, the micro fibre cloths that we use to wipe condensation off the windows are just left in the cars, still wet. As with others, we have put de-humidifiers in both cars now and the problem has stopped.
  13. My Yeti Outdoor is only 3 months old and I get the same problem of ice on the inside of the windscreen. My wife has a CityGo, also 3 month sold, and she gets the same, ice on the inside of the windscreen. I can't find any damp spots in either vehicle and have been putting the problem down to damp shoes when getting in the car after rain or, more likely, the microfibre cloths that we use to wipe the inside of the screens - these are left in the cars after wiping the screens and release their moisture back into the atmosphere as they dry.
  14. Doubtful benefit - not unlike a Peugeot RCZ I used to own that deployed a rear spoiler when you exceeded 85 mph - It tells the police that you are speeding! :-)
  15. I have tried the squirty gunk in the past, without success, so now I always have a spare wheel.
