  1. No… Have a 1.5 TSI Ateca now with its own issues but we won’t go there! Wish I had the Leon back! Ironically I listen to my neighbours 2018 Audi Q3 1.4TFSI start up each morning with exactly the same noise. I’ve been told it’s normal, as per above TPI.
  2. exactly this. I’ve been struggling to explain the problem we now have with our 2019 1.5 manual. We had ‘the’ software update to fix the kangaroo ad low revs when cold but I’m now blighted by this issue you describe above. I can pull the clutch up whilst accelerating away in 1st gear and the car will almost cut the revs completely resulting in a jolt whilst the engine catches back up again and I finally pull away. Almost like it’s going to cut out/stall but it doesn’t. It really makes me feel like I don’t know how to drive but I’m certain it’s not me. This engine is the worst I’ve driven for years. I REALLY miss my 1.4TSI Leon…
  3. Exactly the same happening in my 1.5TSI SEAT Ateca manual. I appreciate it’s a completely different car, engine and gearbox but I couldn’t have described my issue better myself. I did have the ‘kangaroo’ fix last year but this is something different and it makes me hate the car with a passion. So difficult to set off from standing with any decorum. Its in for its first service (two years old) in a couple of weeks so I’ll mention it then. But I’ll expect the usual ‘can’t find anything wrong’ line.
  4. I commented on this thread a few pages back now to say that my 2019 (19 plate) Ateca 1.5TSI manual was suffering from the 1st gear kangaroo effect when cold. Thankfully I finally got SEAT to acknowledge this after a CS complaint and a visit to a couple of different dealers. I wouldn’t say the car got completely fixed after it’s ECU update but it was 95% better and I could only really feel the roo a tiny bit when warm. Fast forward to now (about a year later) and over the last week or so, I can pretty much say the car is getting worse by the day and the kangaroo is returning. It’s really getting on my nerves. I never got out of SEAT what ECU version they updated my car to but the action was carried out just over a year ago now and as I say ha been pretty much OK for the last year or so. Its gotten that bad that I just hate driving the car. It says something when I much prefer jumping in my Citigo as it just drives away no issues at all and moving off from a stop is much easier! does anyone know if any newer ECU updates were released during the last year? Anyone else experienced similar?
  5. Thanks for the reply! Yeah I completely understand coming from 115bhp to 59bhp is going to be a bit of a shock, even though 115bhp is not particularly quick, the DSG helped massively with that feeling! However, I have driven about 4 SEAT Mii's when mine has been in for service over the years and I've been impressed. Nice and comfy (spongy!) and I think the engine suits the car well. I will literally only be city travelling so no 'need for speed!' Thanks for your advice!
  6. Something to add to ask you guys about - I've checked a few of these Facelift cars MOT records and notice a common theme with 'Front windscreen washer provides insufficient washer liquid' or 'Windscreen washer not working', whats the deal here?
  7. Hi Everyone, After a long history with SEAT, I might finally be making my way into the Skoda club! Due to a change in circumstances, my Ibiza FR Sport DSG will be going and I need something small and nippy for a very short (but not walkable) commute. I've narrowed it down to a 5dr 2016 Citigo Colour Edition. I was hoping that you good people could steer me in the direction of any potential faults or known problems to look out for on these cars. I'm hoping to get a test drive tomorrow so should be able to check for anything in detail there. The car has about 20,000 miles on the clock and one previous owner. It's a facelift model so it has the new Swing radio and the LED DRL's. I understand this head unit has Bluetooth built in, unlike the pre-FL cars which relied on the Garmin unit for Bluetooth (had one of these in my 2013 Ibiza....awful device!). I'm also not entirely sure from spec sheets whether it has DAB built in, which isn't a deal breaker but would be nice. Are there any other differences between pre/post FL cars? Hope someone can help and point me in the right direction!
  8. Quick update on our update! So after being told there was no update for our June built (July registered) 1.5 TSI Ateca, I was finally notified of an update released in early December. The update has now been applied to the car and all I can say is wow, what a difference! The car now drives as it should have driven the day we picked it up. I can now liken it back to our previous 2017 Leon EcoTSI 1.4 which we loved. It now picks up much easier in all gears, doesn't kangaroo and pulls away lovely and smooth, just as it should. It finally feels like I expected. I'm disappointed in SEAT as a whole. we had actually just started the rejection process before the update came, but I'm now happy to report we are keeping the car as the kangaroo was the only issue we had with it and we would actually have been sorry to have to reject it should it have come to that. VWFS have offered compensation for the inconvenience of the last 6 months which we will be taking and the complaint will be upheld. All in all I'm happy with the resolution now, just not so happy with the way SEAT treat customers whilst trying to get the issue sorted (especially their dealer network), but from what I've seen online I don't think I don't think this is unique to SEAT and spans the entire VAG franchise, especially when it comes to this 1.5 "issue".
  9. Is everyone's 1.5TSI sorted now? It's gone quiet on here... I've just had information to say an update is available for my July registered Ateca 1.5TSI manual. I've been waiting (and complaining to dealer, SEAT and VWFS) since a week after we picked it up brand new. I'll be interested to see if this sorts it.
  10. My SEAT Ateca has been diagnosed, it's been confirmed that there is an issue with it, but as of yet there is no update available for my car. All I know is that my ECU is the R version. So for now, I have to live with the problem and wait. Edit: 2019 (July) registered SE Technology manual.
  11. Thanks for the reply. I got two years free servicing with the car when purchased in 2016 so this is it's last 'free' one. Car has done 12,000 miles so just wanted to check it out as on past cars my air filters get dirty quickly as I drive a very urban/dirty commute.
  12. Morning all, Does anyone know how to get to the air filter on a 1.0 TSI? I had a quick look but can't see that it will as easy as other cars I've owned unless I'm missing something... Had 2nd service recently but noticed they don't change the air filter so would like to check it's condition and for any debris etc.
  13. Funnily enough I was walking the dog round my estate this morning and noticed a brand new 67 plate Audi TT sitting on a driveway with the ignition on (lights but no engine). As I walked past, they start the engine. Low and behold, the lovely loud sound as experienced in this thread! Now...does the TT even use the 1.4TSI? I thought you could only get it now with a 1.8TSI or a 2.0TSI? This must happen to all makes and models that use the 1.4TSI, 1.8TSI and 2.0 TSI engines. It doesn't bother me THAT much in my 21k Leon FR but I would not be best pleased in a 32k Superb or 33k TT black edition!
  14. So, the Leon was in today for a couple of other bits and I thought I'd mention this noise to the tech. I showed him the video I'd recorded and he agreed it sounded like the starter motor sticking or spinning for too long. He went in, had a word and advised that starter motors are on back order of about two weeks at the moment (wonder why!) and to bring it back and leave overnight sometime and they can see it happen on cold start and arrange for replacement. He said no, it shouldn't make that noise, it's not normal.
  15. Thanks guys, As I say, it's done this from day 1 and it's less than a year old. A family member has an Audi Q2 with the same engine and although a LOT quieter, I can still hear that noise on a cold start. Albeit, you have to listen very hard. It's a lease car so hence why I'm not racing to the dealers worried what it might be, But I guess I'll book it in since a lot of you think it's not normal. We only have it until next July as it's a 24 monther. It needs the passenger door handle looking at too as it's sticking.
  16. Hi All, I thought I'd post here as my Leon uses the same engine as the Octavia's, the 1.4 TSI (150HP). It's a 2017 plate and we've had this awful noise at start up since we got it a few months ago. Looking around on the web it seems it may be quite common but I'm not sure what is causing it and if it's fixable or not. It's actually quite embarrassing to start the car up first thing in a morning with that racket! It'll do it without fail on every first start up of the day. Anyway, I took a video of the sound this morning, hope someone can shed some light and whether its a common thing on this engine across the range and whether it should do it or not? Thanks
  17. I have EXACTLY the same 'problem' with my 2016 'facelift' Ibiza FR. Exactly as described in all these posts above, however now the weather is colder I've noticed it less. It happened daily in the summer but I never got it checked. I'll be mentioning it at it's next service in March.
  18. FWIW, my 2016 SEAT Ibiza does exactly the same. I get the 'high power usage' message on the infotainment even when I have no a/c or blowers on etc, just that the car has been sitting for a day. Driving around for a few miles sorts this out though.
  19. The 1.0 EcoTSI 110 in my SEAT Ibiza FR doesn't vibrate... you can't even tell it's running when it's idling.
  20. This is the one huge bug bear of mine. It makes me feel like people can really see the car lurching when I give it some beans. Unless you press the accelerator in a certain way from standstill, you get this horrible lurch in the 1st to 2nd gear change which to me feels like power loss. Feather the accelerator and progressively push it down and you can get a great pull away from the lights with a lightning 1st to 2nd gear change which I cannot feel at all. What gives? Why can't it just do it all Of the time! I presume it's 'normal'?
  21. My 2016 Ibiza shows different menu colours I'm sure. I just thought it was normal. Maybe SEAT updated the software in your unit when it went in for its work? I have the current Media System Plus in my Ibiza. I'll try and get some photos of the menus later.
  22. I find in my 7-Speed DSG (Ibiza FR) it can be very jumpy starting from 0mph and generally at low speeds but I've pretty much managed to overcome this. It's quite difficult to describe but instead of just pressing the throttle like I would in a manual, if you 'squeeze' the throttle to accelerate then it accelerates perfectly and changes through the gears without me noticing at all. As it should be. However, I can make the drive a truly awful one and feel lurching between each gear change if I simply accelerate as I would in a manual car. Make sense? I think I've confused myself! Basically, the DSG involves much more thought and input from the driver than I imagined before I bought one...
  23. Maybe I'm the only Ibiza owner that stalks these forums! Just checked on mine, albeit a 1.0TSI and don't appear to have the noisy pipe mentioned. I also can't hear this noise. Sorry I don't have a 1.2TSI! http://i64.tinypic.com/20rwyhc.jpg
  24. Good news! How come they had it for two weeks?
  25. Thank you very much for updating the thread with the end result. Can I ask, is it the same noise I mention in the first post of this thread? http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/363110-12-tsi-110-wierd-noise/#entry4655766 Myself and a couple of others are experiencing this noise on the Fabia/Ibiza so it would be good to know whether this is the noise that you have had fixed by your dealer. Did they make you aware of any TSB's covering this? Cheers
