  1. Hello, the BMM engine in my Octavia combi 4x4 estate has failed in a big way ( broken crankshaft) The gearbox is a serial KXU. i'm looking for a replacement engine. Are there other Skoda 1.9 or 2.0 litre diesel engines that will mate with my gearbox or am I restricted to another BMM engine? Can anyone suggest a trustworthy source of replacement engines? Thanks
  2. Hi Stuart, thanks for the reply. The Glow plug warning light started flashing on my way home from work tonight. It went off for a bit and then started up again. Subsequently the car went into limp home mode. I got home ....slowly and switched off the engine. After ten minutes it started fine. So far the Glow plug light hasn't come back on again, but now the engine management light is on.. i don't mind having a look and cleaning up the EGR valve, but the thought of lying on my back in the drive with the car on ramps doesn't appeal very much. Your description of what's required makes it even less so. All the best Seumas
  3. It looks like I may have to replace the EGR Valve on my 2010 Octavia 2.0 Diesel 1Z5 Engine code BMM. I'll try cleaning it first but if that doesn't work can anyone recumbent the best place to purchase either OEM or a good pattern part. Many thanks Seems
  4. Hi, you could try fitting Skoda Rough Road suspension. Fitted as standard to my 2010 ex Police Octavia Estate, She rides well, . You would have to have your steering/suspension.geometry adjusted afterward.
  5. Hello, I had a bad coolant leak in my 2010 2.0 Diesel Octavia. It would empty the water reservoir in 20 odd miles. The problem turned out to be a damaged thermostat housing. A large piece of the housing had scabbed off internally. Externally it looked fine. . Apparently VW thermostat housings are prone to this. There's also an O Ring in the housing that can fail. Are there no signs of water leakage on the engine block? Good luck finding the problem
  6. Right, I've got a variation on this theme, recently my Drivers side window has been randomly closing itself, sometimes it closes halfway, but most of the time it shuts fully. It works fine when you open or close the window using the switch. All the other windows are fine. Thought I might strip the switch down and see if its a problem with the contacts. Any thoughts on this problem. Thanks
  7. Mine did this to. Possibly caused by the rear bumper taking a knock at some point. Essy to fix, drilled a small hole and pop riveted into place.
  8. I'd suspect the engine mounts. Is it not possible to have an engineers report produced on the problem you're experiencing. If a definite fault is identified ask Skoda to sort it at a main dealer, or have it done at your expense locally and send Skoda the bill.
  9. Oponeo, have quality tyres at very reasonable prices, including Goodyear Efficient Grip Tyres.. Personally I rate the Nokian WRG3, good grip, hard wearing a good all rounder in all weather
  10. Hello Dan, didn't get any response to my e mail to Kent Police so I phoned them up and asked for Transport Services. Spoke with a very helpful workshop tech who e mailed me a very comprehensive service history for the car. Service intervals, repairs, even down to puncture repairs, all dated and costed. It's true the Police do spend a fortune fettling their cars and keeping them top line.
  11. More on the engine number. i've now found what i believe to be the engine number. On the front centre of the block very very faintly etched? are a series of 10 numbers starting 3-47 and ending 027. Does this seem right? Should there be ten numbers? Beneath this series of number is what I believe to be a date 14 05 12. My vehicle is a 2010 reg so could this 14 05 12 be the date when this engine was refurbished / built. My car apparently had a replacement engine fitted by the Police around May 2013 so that date would fit. Beneath the date is a small. etched square, nothing written in it just a polished square. Any thoughts anyone
  12. Hello Manyo. I have no information re who did the engine change. I had a main Skoda agent look on his computer for the vehicles history, nothing recorded at all, so I can only assume that all the work, including the engine change was done in-house by the Police mechanics. Dan. Check the printout you were given. I got one of those but when I looked closer it was obviously relating to another vehicle as the service history and date on Police strength date of first registration didn't tally. I've spoken to the seller and he has agreed to sort this out and send the correct service record. Nothing heard from Kent Police as yet, but early days yet.
  13. Thanks Afrogoat, I sent an e mail to the force concerned, Kent Constabulary last night. With luck I'll hear from them in due course.
  14. Hi Snig, If only, I don't have the complete V5 as yet, only the small tear off portion of the form which provides very little information. I've had another look for the engine number as I think the original number I quoted. is in fact the cylinder head gasket part number. Can anyone tell me where the engine number is to be located on the engine?
  15. Hello, I have been told that the engine in my 2010 Octavia Diesel Estate is a new / replacement engine. Is there anyway to verify this? There is a metal plate on the front face of the engine showing the following: 0383830R V500 DE Would Skoda be the best source of information for this? There is no paperwork for the vehicle as it is ex Police and all the spnnering was undertaken by Police mechanics within the Force and not at dealerships Any advice appreciated
