  1. Dangerous driving hasn't always been easy to prove because you needed to prove 'mens rea' (state of mind) Hence death by dangerous driving wasn't either charged or proved as often as it should have been. The law has changed a little because of that and the link below explains what may be considered as dangerous or careless. The decision always rest with the Crown Prosecution Service and as they do not take anything to court unless they have a very good (in my day 60/40) chance of securing a conviction it often will not meet their guidelines and will be dropped. I know there are serving Police Officers on here and they may add more recent information but I doubt many (if any) will have a good word for the CPS. Often CPS has been changed to Couldn't Prosecute Satan! In my day the CPS were awarded points for discontinuing cases as it save court time and money so the 60/40 became more like 80/20. In any event the decision to prosecute or not is theirs alone and the Police have no say in the end. https://www.cps.gov.uk/news/fact_sheets/dangerous_driving/#content
  2. Just so you know Bri I have enticed Ade, Oli and Madrunner to Lincoln on Friday night for a quiet drink! Might be a good night to stay in or you could come and join us and pick on Shorty with us!
  3. Ade gets all his gear VAT free from Mothercare. If you are man size like most normal folk that option isn't open to us.
  4. Blimey Bri! That is a bit of a jump. Good on you. Great time of year to be getting a brand new bike. Can I suggest you give this Guy a call? Used him for the last couple of years and he is excellent, the bike is showroom when he finishes with it and he isn't expensive. http://[email protected]
  5. There is absolutely no need to get bored Oli. You can come over and clean the TEX any time you like. I have some gloop on my back tyre I have been meaning to get rid of for a while.
  6. Neither had I up to that point. Mine was fitted by the garage and worked ok and never gave me any problems until I was riding around Cadwell Park as part of the instruction team for track days being run by Roger Burnett and Ride magazine. I was part of the road instruction team and was being shown around the circuit for when I had to take my pupils around it later in the day. I checked the back tyre to see if I had gone further over than on my normal road use and found it to be covered in oil. Good job I had stopped and luckily there didn't appear to be any on the track. I did have one fitted on my second VFR and it NEVER worked properly from the day it was fitted. Maybe I had bad luck with them but it certainly out me off them and to be fair they don't oil all of the chain anyway so you still need to do it by hand if you want to do it properly. Having said all of that I certainly wouldn't tell anyone not to have one fitted but would advise caution in that they can be problematic and do not oil both sides of the chain. I have a Triumph Explorer now so don't have the problem.
  7. As a fitter I once knew said "I don't get paid to hit it with a hammer I get paid to know where to hit it!" Or was he a plumber I am not sure now?
  8. Your spannering abilities sound about as good as mine. Do one small job and create four! Pleased to hear Bro is on the mend though. I would hate to even think how much pain broken ribs are as I have pulled a muscle in that region a couple of times and the pain is unbearable every time you breath which of course not doing isn't an option!
  9. What are you doing in here Plumbob you haven't got a bike! :p
  10. Good link. I keep forgetting about that. I really need some different trousers as I have been boiled today in my leathers and my textile trousers just make me sweat with the lining (winter lining out). My mate today had some denims on and he was a lot cooler I just am not a big fan of them though.
  11. To be fair Ade when Jane has been on the back of me with the panniers and top box fully loaded on the VFR and the Sprint I have been acutely aware of the problem and I am 6' 2". I haven't tried it yet with the TEX and only ridden with the panniers on (empty) twice. Of course most of the problems are easily countered by good planning but those turns in the road, places where you go to out your foot down and the camber of the road means it is that 1" further away than you expect or junctions with loose stones on the surface can easily catch any of us out. We have at last found something to agree on anyway. I cannot be doing with chains again. I have tried a Scottoiler and it never worked properly from the day it was fitted and the one before that spat oil all over the back tyre while I was on a track day at Cadwell. Thing is if it is affecting your enjoyment of riding it needs addressing and if you are like me I couldn't even begin to contemplate not taking the wife on the back of the bike.
  12. He is too titchy for the Tiger. Have you tried platform heels Ade? Oh and no I don't want to be in your gang! Seriously though Ade I feel for you (genuinely) because it must be a worry for you and dropping it ith the good lady on the back is a worry and I do get that.
  13. Uri Geller could bend spoons with his fingers!
  14. I don't think pay phones take money any more you have to use a debit card or phonecard. Lesson learned though I think make sure your phone is charged up. Maybe invest in one of them powerbanks you can use to charge up your battery.
  15. @what' is that horrible thing this end of the picture?
  16. Main thing is you are not seriously hurt. Pride is another matter. All I would say is learn from it and replace your helmet as a must.
  17. I bought a new sat nav just over a year ago to use when I was coach driving. Used it the other week in the car and it was rubbish. Took me way out of the way to get to my destination and you just go with it thinking it knows best but then you can tell you have just gone around in a massive arc to end back up on the road you left. I had one in a Volvo V50 and it would only come up out of the dash when it felt like it!
  18. I cannot say as I have noticed anything with the TEX either. I think the main thing is somehow see if you can get a ride on the older model (difficult) and see which you prefer. To me once you have the bike any difference to anything else will be forgotten in a few miles unless it is a boxer twin! :p I meant to ask. When you were out on your test ride didn't you find it strange riding straight past filling stations?
  19. I might as well tell you now. You buy a boxer and that will be the lat time you ride out with me Plumber!
