  1. Yes, cheers Dunc, I'm starting to think that way too, as much as I like diesels.... I think they're now (almost) TOAST!
  2. Currently driving my 4yr old Octy vRS Diesel and loving everything about it....(but) - there's always one of them isn't there? My PCP is about to expire meaning it's decision time....do I stick with it, or change to a petrol? We all know what's in the news nowadays re: diesels, plus I only do about 8K p.a. So, shall I stick with I've got, or go with (as the Mrs would prefer...) a smaller VW Golf Gti/R... or even another GTD that she would also occasionally drive. My main concern with getting another Diesel, is it's re-sale value.....
  3. Just checked the update portal and my update is there...at 23gig! Before I DL it I was wondering if anyone has found the UI any different than before, or is it literally just the updated roads? I find the method for entering destinations really clunky (compared to Google maps) which i find myself tending to use on my phone (with a Brodit holder) rather than the whopping big in-built display just below it!
  4. Just my two-penneth worth....I've got the DSG vRS and constantly drive everywhere in adaptive cruise mode, which I've read is not good for fuel economy, BUT, is fantastic for ease of driving (and obeying the speed limits ) and I'm averaging around the 40-mark - this is with 75% of my driving being done on A-roads through villages etc, with the odd 10 mile blast down the bypass. I'm happy enough with that with my style of driving
  5. Not sure what you're getting at there Phil tbh...??
  6. Decided to keep my winters on all year round from now on. I'm a low mileage user of around 6k per year, I don't drive around like a looney, I normally corner at reasonable (bordering on 'sedate') speeds, and have read other forums where people have kept them on yr-round with no obvious adverse effects. I figured (like a lot of similar like-minded people) that I'd have changed the car before I need new tyres anyway, so I thought why go to the extra expense of getting my summers put back on for 6-7mths! I'll see how it goes....
  7. Dammit....strange how such a small thing gets on your nerves. I had all my contacts pics showing when I had my Nexus 5, nay bother....hated it when I drifted over to the dark-side (iP6) and had the contact pics not show up. When I finally got cheesed off with all of iOS's restrictions after a few months & returned to Android, I fully expected one of the many benefits would be to once again see my contact pics again on my Amundsen display again....WRONG! I'm on 6.0.1 too with my Nexus 6P....no pics showing either!! What's happened?? :S :S
  8. Question regarding the storage of my tyres; As both myself and my wife's car have their tyres swapped over to winters (I know, but I'm going to be looking out for some decent alloys for both of us over the next few months so we can just swap over the wheels....) I'm a bit stuck for space for the replaced summer ones. For the moment, I've put them stacked up behind our garden shed in a reasonably sheltered spot with overhanging hedge covering most of the area they're in. Has anyone here stored theirs outside over the winter without any adverse effects (I'm thinking here that the inside of the tyres are exposed to the elements and that might be an issue!)
  9. Got a new set of Nokian WR A3's on my vRS yesterday. Must say I'm impressed with them so far with regards to the ride they give compared to the summers. Not noticed any increased road noise (in fact would even go so far as to say they're less noisy than the summer tyres were...) whereas the first thing I noticed on my last car, an Audi A4, on leaving the tyre depot, was how much more noisy the Michelin Alpins were than the ones that had come off. With the weather temps apparently set to plummet in the UK from this weekend, I might get a chance to comment on how well they behave in the white stuff too unfortunately
  10. @nickcoll ....Nope, it's not that I'm afraid. The 300x300 image is a mere 25k after resizing and saved at 85% compression! They're always jpegs I use for the covers. The frustrating thing is, I can briefly 'see' all the covers cascaded underneath the generic source icon almost like a pack of cards, so I know they're there. Plus there's the fact that all my 'mixed' artists folders, all show up perfectly. It's really baffling (& annoying) me.
  11. This issue is really doing my head in. The weird part for me is that none of my Full Albums art shows up on my Amundsen system, for example my 'Adele - 21' folder has every track embedded with a 300x300 cover art tagged in mp3Tag, They were originally sized at 500x500 but after reading CainDingle's detailed post (thx btw ) I removed the embedded images from each track and re-did them with a 300x300 image. The text part always shows ok but the image refuses to do so...on ANY folder that has an entire album in it, BUT....I also have folders with '80s Hits', '90s Hits' etc, with individual artists and songs, and the art on every single one of those songs shows up fine when playing - regardless of the embedded image sizes (they're all square images, but of varying sizes) But when it comes to a folder that has a full album in it...no chance, just a generic icon of the source (SD, Jukebox etc....) Grrrrrr
  12. Thanks for the replies. It's not looking good then  Looks like I might have to invest in another Brodit holder for my longer trips then. Trouble is the cigarette/12v supply's in a daft place to power the phone during the journey (unless the USB port will power the phone - I'll have to try it later!)
  13. Hi all Just taken delivery of my 2014 vRS and am having (not a lot of joy) with the SatNav on my Columbus-based system. I specifically didn't spec a SatNav on my previous (non-Skoda) vehicle as as I was more than happy to utilise my easy-to-use Google Maps on the 'large enough' screen of my smartphone, with a Brodit holder. However, my new 'year-old' Octy was really well specced up with various extras including the Columbus Infotainment system, so I thought, great I'll go with that and the bang up-to-date maps that were done by the dealership. Problem Number 1: On our departure from the dealership, I tried to input our home address (which is a small private estate of 20yrs standing...) and - it couldn't find our street! It DID find our postcode after a bit of fiddling (but the street still came up as 'unknown' or something similar...) but off we went. The route we put into Google maps was taking us on a completely different route, but decided to try out the Octy's version to see how it fared. The long and short of it all was we 'eventually' arrived home, albeit via a very different route to what we expected. We put this down to unfamiliarity with the new system. Problem Number 2: Today, I went to a local supermarket and decided to try it out again. It's not far from home (less than 7 miles - but decided to see which way it sent me...) It gave me the 3 options for , Eco, Speed. Distance. I chose Speed (which I knew would take me out of the supermarket's exit and to the right....WRONG! It told me to go straight ahead and through a council estate that would have taken forever to get through due to all the speed humps and twisting corners therein, rather than a 70mph bypass! Problem Number 3: I tried to input a route to my fathers house - a nearby village some 4 miles away. I input the village name (OK)...then the street (again, it picked that up OK)....but rather than asking for the number - it asked for the 'intersection'?? (there isn't one within a mile or so of him!) So basically, you can't get to 'exactly' where you want to go...quickly, or accurately.... How do other, more experienced Columbus users find the SatNav on their vehicles? Cheers for any input
  14. I'd be REALLY interested in this too. I'm just about to jump ship from an Audi A4 Avant (that I really love) Thing is, about a year into my PCP on the A4, a sensor 'went' on it (that never usually does). As a result, it took a week or more to get replaced, from Germany, as they never had the part over here in the UK. In the interim period, Audi provided me with an A7 Sportback 3.0L Quattro, with all the usual 'Bells n Whistles' (to try and tempt me to 'upgrade', no doubt.) It worked.......(sort of...) :p My personal spec was a manual 6-speed box on the A4 that I never thought I'd deviate from....."Auto Boxes...?? - Pah...for wimps!!) How wrong was I?? As most of you know, they've come on in leaps and bounds (in DSG/TripTronic config) so now...I've gotta have one! (It's like driving in 'an armchair'....) The trouble is with Audi - the upgrades are 'prohibitively' expensive. As a result, I've started looking at the Octavia's which have been getting such good reviews! I'm NOT a Snob-Badge customer (though I admit, I used to get a lot of satisfaction in seeing the 'double-takes' at the 4-rings at the front of the Audi from pedestrians as I passed by.....but that's now worn off, a a lot!!) My query is also, along the lines of the OP..can I get a standard Octy 3 with 'normal' cruise instantaneously....but after driving (my) new A5 for a few wks,. could I then ask you for your address too?? Plz get back to me... ;- )Thx
