  1. That was my fault. I posted without noting where in the world he was posting from. My bad. Still, it would be worth checking your local vehicle standards, because most of them are standardised throughout Europe.
  2. There's definitely a fault there. By law your braking system must allow for two applications of the brakes after the compressor or vacuum pump stop working. This would be tested by a police officer or VOSA at the roadside by running the engine to ensure a vacuum in the chamber, switching the engine off and then pumping your brake pedal. Any less than four applications of the brakes would be a deferred prohibition, and less than two would be an immediate. The fact you state that when you start on a hill with your foot applied to the pedal and the vehicle is able to roll means it's definitely not right. Perhaps visiting your dealership with the Categorisation of Vehicle Defects manual, which is the book both Police vehicle examiners and VOSA vehicle examiners go by, and pointing out the defect to them (page 159) will get you somewhere.
  3. I ordered my iV VRS on 7th October and it arrived at my dealership on 12th of this month. I'm not picking it up until this Friday though. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for what comes out of the factory.
  4. I ordered at the very start of October 2021 and was initially told that they were provisionally saying March '22 delivery, however to expect delays. Not long afterwards I got an email from them saying it had now been pushed back to expected September '22 delivery. My dealer has been pretty rubbish at responding to emails, however on 27th April they emailed me out of the blue to say that they have had news that my car was now expected to arrive to them in mid-may. I've taken it with a pinch of salt, but I can't help but think it'd be a pretty stupid move to adjust my expectations forward 5 months if there wasn't really some news. I haven't heard anything else since.
  5. In the UK the front side windows must allow 70% light transmission and the windscreen must allow 75%. They tend to come from the factory already tinted to that level. You can have any glass behind the B pillar as dark as you like.
  6. I ordered back at the start of October with a provisional delivery date of March '22. Had an email from my dealership last week that delivery is now expected September '22 so 11 months from order to expected delivery. That's for a VRS IV with wireless charging, park assist and winter pack 2.
  7. I'm only going by the listing. Here is the listing for the same car available via Carwow and shown as Graphite Grey Metallic... https://quotes.carwow.co.uk/stock_cars/26412750?iterable[campaignId]=1125047&iterable[channelId]=6974&iterable[messageTypeId]=7590&iterable[seg]=user&iterable[templateId]=1576166&utm_campaign=txn_usr_pre-enquiry_stock_stock-recommendations-4_uk_290920&utm_medium=email&utm_source=Iterable
  8. They're definitely out there. There's a second hand one available from Mitchell Group. https://www.mitchellgroup.co.uk/used/cars/skoda-octavia-hatchback-14-tsi-iv-vrs-5dr-dsg-df21omz
  9. That's a shame. It seems that only BMW are bothering to do it wirelessly. I guess there's no point in me getting the wireless charging box then.
  10. I've got my new Octavia on order. I just missed out on Apple CarPlay with my current one as it was released a couple of months later. Does anyone know if CarPlay works wirelessly in the Octavia, as if so I'd be really interested in getting one of these wireless charger doobywhatsits? If not and I'm going to have to plug the phone in for every journey there isn't much point.
  11. The Met used VRS's for Area Cars for a short time but have now ditched them for BMW 5 Series Tourers. The electronics didn't play well with all the extra kit they fitted (2 computers, IDR and lights). You may still see the odd one about as well as the Volvo V40 they also used for a little while afterwards.
  12. Thank you. I did try a search but didn't come up with that thread. I'll have a read through it now.
  13. Hello all. I'm coming to the end of my PCP on my Octy 3 in October so starting to look for a replacement. I'm thinking of going for a new VRS. Last time around I used CarWow to get a great deal, so a month or so ago I went back to them and again got some great quotes for a new VRS. I got married last Saturday so the car had to go on the back burner until that was out of the way but I've been back to CarWow this week looking to get the ball rolling and find that you can no longer spec a VRS and my previous offers are no longer available because 'the manufacturer has changed the spec' and to build a new one (which I can't do because the VRS isn't an option anymore). Does anyone have any idea why this might be? I know they do model updates around this time of year as when I ordered my current car I managed to get the auto park and ACC chucked in for free due to the model specs changing over. Is it because we're between model years, or because there is not build capacity left because the VRS is so popular right now (thought I read something about this?)? This will be my first time coming to the end of a PCP deal and don't want to be left without a car when the music stops, or miss out on any (admittedly, likely negligible) equity I have in it towards the new one because I can't source one to coincide with the current one going back.
  14. Kwik Fit have a tool on their website to enable you to find the correct tyre pressures for your vehicle from the VRM. Handily for you it also tells you what the vehicle is. https://www.kwik-fit.com/tyres/information/tyre-pressure-search
  15. Whatever advice you decide to take, please don't let it be this. It's 6 points for not supplying the details of the driver when you receive a NIP.
  16. What Huskoda says above is true, your premium will go up now regardless as the insurance company know you've been involved in an accident. They justify it by saying that people who are involved in one are statistically more likely to be involved in another. I doubt it would go up by £350, but to me its the principle when you've done nothing wrong. I had a crash about 12 years ago now. I won't bore you with the details, but at the scene the guy was exactly as you describe; very apologetic, accepted full liability. So the next day I went to report it at the local police station, only to find out he's got there first and basically said it happened about two miles from where it did, and at a different time of day. He's also saying that I was on the wrong side of the road (which in fact he was). Long story short, he kept this story up with his insurers. About 12 - 18 months later I get a letter from my insurance company saying they can't get him to back down and was I willing to go to court. Damn right I was! Sent them back the confirmation that I was willing to go and within two weeks he had backed down!
  17. The penalty for doing 31mph and 59mph in a 30mph limit are unlikely to be the same. 50mph and above is a summons. The reason for that is that the police can only offer a fixed penalty of 3 points and £100, and that speed warrants a higher penalty, most likely 6 points but possibly disqualification. Of course its for the court to decide which. Speeding boils down to one of two causes. Either the attitude of the driver ('I'm a brilliant driver' or the mistaken belief that in their modern car they can stop easier and so can drive faster), or it's a lack of driving skill on their part. The courses aim to address both of those causes without the need to fine a person, in the belief that education is better than purely punitive measures. I guess it works differently for different people. I've seen comments on this forum from people who have taken the course, found it useful and changed their driving habits as a result. Others see it as another way to 'get away with it' like every other area of the criminal justice system in this country where there are not real consequences for your actions.
  18. There are a few different courses that you can get for different offences. Speeding is one, another is wearing a seatbelt (which I believe is a course you complete at home online) and then there are a couple of catch all courses for driving attitude and lack of skill. You can have each of the different courses once within a three year period. So, for example, you completed the speed course recently so if you were stopped within the next three years for say going through a red light you would still be eligible for the skill course. However, if you were stopped speeding again you couldn't get another speed course and would either get an offer of a fixed penalty or summons. My understanding is that if you get caught speeding in Cheshire and complete a course there you could also be offered a course if subsequently caught in Hampshire. I tend to believe this is true because police IT is still stuck in the 1970's and things far more important that whether you've completed a speed awareness course still can't be shared between forces.
  19. Power Magic Pro: http://www.amazon.co...power magic pro Fuse Taps: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item27bf1644ed (I bought mine from that seller and they were very good. Order before 2pm and they ship first class that day. Mine arrived through the letter box next morning) And you'll need a pair of (full size) blade fuses at 5 amps: http://www.halfords....e-5-amp--hfs286 You may get them cheaper elsewhere, not sure.
  20. A little anecdotal, but my bother recently moved house to an area about 7 miles from his old house. He called up the insurance company to change his address and they told him they would no longer cover him. Apparently this wasn't due to crime levels, but that his new house was within about a mile of a roundabout where there are a lot of accidents and therefore claims. He doesn't even drive that way to work.
  21. The Power Magic Pro can be had for £27 from Amazon.
  22. If you're using the price comparison sites make sure you check them all. The same insurers often give different prices depending on the comparison site you use. I did quotes with all the main ones and then went to the IAM who guarantee to beat your best price, which they did nicely.
  23. The 140 1.4 TSi manual is £110 and the DSG is £30.
  24. I think we're starting to get a little hysterical about all this. Most car accidents are damage only, and police have absolutely no interest short of making sure everyone is insured and licensed, because these are down to the insurance companies to investigate, not the police. Of the accidents that result in injury, again, most are minor injuries and the situation is pretty much the same as in the damage only accident. The only time police would be investigating is if serious life changing or life threatening injury has occurred. In these situations they will secure evidence from CCTV, be it nearby buses, shops, council cameras, etc. They will also call an accident investigator to the scene who will measure the whole scene by laser, marks on the road recorded, braking test conducted in the conditions you were driving in, and then your car will be seized and picked apart. Believe me they WILL know exactly what you've done. Not having a dash cam is not going to save you if you have driven like a tool and killed someone. Conversely, if you're pulled over for speeding they are not going to seize your dash cam or your memory card because the cost of processing the footage is too great. It's not the case that the officer can just take it back to the station, plug it into his computer and get your footage. S/He will have to send it away to a unit that does this, who will download, convert it to an appropriate format for their use and burn multiple copies. Those units have massive backlogs of work from all the hundreds of more important crimes that require CCTV evidence, and the whole of this is cost prohibitive for a simple case of speeding. I've had two mates who in the last two months have had accidents. One was on a pedal cycle when a driver who was too close behind him on a round about hit his back wheel and knocked him off. He wasn't badly hurt but there was damage to his very expensive bike. The driver admitted full liability at the scene, and was very upset about it. Once she gets home however, and presumably having had advice from her husband, she changes her story that she didn't even touch his wheel and he must've fallen off. The second was another friend who was on his motorcycle when a supermarket delivery van pulled out of a side street and knocked him off. The van driver has subsequently told his insurance company that my friend was riding on the wrong side of the road, and so now as he was only third party famine & flood he has lost his bike. Both of these scenarios would've had a very different outcome if they had both had cameras, as many cyclists and motorcyclists do these days. The truth is that these days you just can't count on anyone to be honest and hold their hands up when they've done wrong. They'll happily blame you if they think it can get them off the hook. You also can't count on anyone to be a witness for you either, as we live it times where people will just drive/walk on by. I for one am glad I have my camera for peace of mind it gives me, and I have absolutely zero concerns that it will be used against me.
  25. The reality is that this is never going to happen for a minor traffic offence such as speeding, etc. It would only happen if, for example, you caused death by dangerous driving or something as serious as that. And on the flip-side, your dashcam could be the proof that you didn't.
