    achieved 40 miles elec range today with 5% remaining so probably could’ve done 42 miles total. 2 journeys again. First one about 5 miles and 2nd one about 35. Some motorway on 2nd run but mostly town driving and a few 40mph stretches.

  2. If I’m going on a longer motorway run, longer than I know the battery will last. I’ll set it to hybrid mode once I’m joining the motorway and then untick the “auto” checkbox next to the mode selection. which then holds the battery level where it is. It’ll still use the battery in traffic and under those circumstances it’ll discharge. So it’s also not actively charging the battery from the engine in this mode (which wastes fuel)

     

    if you don’t uncheck the “auto” box, it seems to discharge the battery assisting the engine but I’d prefer to save the battery for the end of the journey when I’m not on the motorway anymore.

  3. I have an IV but it’s the 204bhp non-vrs version. I am not certain about the exact difference between the vrs and non-vRS phev but I suspect the extra performance comes from the electric motor and not from the petrol engine. So would expect you’d achieve similar or slightly less mpg than me

     

    You’ll get 20 - 35 miles out of a full charge. A 3 pin recharge using the “granny” charger takes about 5 hours. So I use octopus intelligent and charge off-peak. A full charge currently costs me around 80pence

     

    I do all my local journeys in ev mode. Which is what the car defaults to unless the EV battery is flat. Once flat it runs in “hybrid” mode. The first part of hybrid mode is like any other petrol/diesel car. The engine will run until it’s warmed up, then will cut off when coasting/stationary.

     

    Ive done half a dozen longish drives since getting the car now. Here’s an example which I would say is fairly typical


    Starting day 1 with 100% battery

    Local driving (school run) followed by a trip from Manchester to kings Lynn, 169 miles average 61.3mpg. I used 50% of the battery and saved the rest for the following day

    Day2: Travel around kings Lynn in ev mode using up remaining battery. Then drive from kings Lynn to heathrow. 156miles, 55.4mpg

    Day3: Heathrow back to Manchester. EV Battery totally flat. 197 miles, 48.7mpg. bad weather and a slow start (where the engine was running) really pulled down the average. I think normally I would’ve been in the low 50s. 
     

    Mainly sticking to 70-75 on the motorway when conditions allowed. Not trying too hard to save fuel

  5. Mk4 towbar noseweight limit is 80kgs so yeah would be a struggle with 4 bikes + the weight of the carrier which is probably 15-20kg itself. Depends how fancy the bikes are I guess!

     

    I have a Thule 2 bike towbar mounted carrier. Had it about 10 years, it’s been great.  There is a drop down mechanism to allow boot access without taking the bikes off. Definitely needed on all the cars I’ve used it on.  Depending on the hinging a hatch bootlid might  clear a towbar mounted carrier

    anyone who ordered in the last few months I guess you won’t have to wait so long unless there is another crisis of some sort

     

    after an 18 month wait I got my SEL IV 3 months ago. Very happy with it so far!

  7. The mild hybrid 1.5 has engine-off coasting which can save a lot of fuel compared to the standard version which idles the engine instead when coasting, wasting fuel

     

    i drove a Leon one of these as a hire car in Switzerland last year and it averaged around 5L/100km, 55-56mpg from memory.

     

    I don’t think there are any 1.5 PHEVs out yet? The new passat and superb should both have the new 1.5 version but they are not yet available to order. The 1.5 version is meant to be much more efficient on fuel than the outgoing 1.4. As an example my 1.4 PHEV octy estate (non-vRS) will do about 52-55mpg on a run with a flat battery (70-75 on the motorway, just me in the car) I’d imagine a 1.5 phev version would be up in the 60s

  8. Can confirm short press is doing the gears. Will try a long press next time!

     

    it took me ages to find how to alter the regen behaviour. It’s well buried in the menus now. Options are either. On, Auto or Off. I didn’t try the On setting. I assume that’s the new high? Not sure why you’d turn it off.
