Heater works sometimes
Hmmm, I did another reset/recalibration when the car had been in my garage overnight and the engine cold. The result is the same as above - warm air only when the temperature setting is 24 degrees or above. I believe the outside temperature sensor is working because the temperature display on the dashboard is correct and tracks the ambient temperature. The problem probably rests with the cabin temperature sensor (is there more then one?) but I don't know where it/they are located and I don't know if / how it/they can be checked / replaced. Should I direct a hairdryer over the little vents at each end of the button selectors and see what happens? Or do I need someone with the VAG diagnostic tool to determine what the fault is? All suggestions welcome!

Climatronic Reset/Calibration
I thought folks might find this useful: comment_5943230 Another round of Googling and I found a Youtube video on how to reset the climate controller. https://youtu.be/hE6t9i4Eg0c This is the procedure for resetting Climatronic units in a Skoda Fabia Mk2 and Roomster in the later models. If your air-con purges away or goes hi-low when in auto (at a fast rate), then the system may benefit from a recalibration. (I have added NOTES to the instructions for greater clarity and also because my experience was slightly different) 1. Ignition to 2nd turn (NOTE dashboard indicators on, but engine not running) 2. Wait for the climate control system to start up (NOTE usually some muffled movements of flaps) 3. then press and hold a/c, face fan, and windscreen clear (max up) (NOTE you might need to first turn the fan to maximum for this procedure to work.) 4. NOTE Once the screen and face and foot symbols start to flash you can release the buttons. The symbols will flash for 45 seconds whilst the climate control system runs through all it internal checks and and resets / re-calibrates settings. 5. Job done I performed this reset after I had been out in the car for a couple of hours and it improved the situation the next time I drove the car. I now get heat when setting the temperature control to something else other than HI. However it appears I have to set the temperature higher than pre-fault settings e.g. 25 degrees instead of 22 degrees. I shall go through the reset process again when the car is cool (both internally and externally) my theory being that the external ambient temperature sensor probably contributes to the recalibration process. I garage my car so I plan on performing the reset/recalibration process after leaving it overnight. I'll let you know! Oh, one other 'feature' my climatic system has exhibited periodically since new (2014) is that after I have switched off the engine for a short period and restarted, the display for the climate control goes completely blank - no symbols showing. They come back on (usually defaulting to A/C on full blast) when I press any button. This condition occurred several times in one journey (with stops) since I performed the reset. Anyone else had this problem?

Anyone else had this problem? And my car is a 1.2 TSI with low-boost turbo (very, very effective) and 7 ratio DSG. The DSG does also need to be reset/recalibrated from time to time when operation becomes jerky when taking up drive from rest and at slow speeds. I recently calculated the available range to be 745 miles (estimated range + actual miles covered)!! I usually average 500+ from a tank of petrol, but I think there must have been a tail-wind...

Heater works sometimes
UPDATE: Further trawling through the Forum I found a suggestion that the control flaps might be stuck/sticky and one way to free them was to exercise them by setting the fan speed up to max then adjust the temperature control to max (HI) and wait 20 seconds, then adjust the temp control to cold (LO) for 20 seconds and repeat until hot and cold air come through reliably if the flap that controls the flow of air into the heater matrix needs to be freed up. Results: Turning the temperature control to HI did produce hot air from the heater straight away. Turning the temperature control to LO gave cool air straight away, so I don't think the flap is stuck. Any setting in between LO and HI gives only cool air, even when the outside temperature is showing 18 degrees and the interior temperature control is set to 24 degrees, only cool air comes out of the vents. According to some YouTube videos on VWs, there are interior / cabin temperature sensors in the system, but I don't know where they are on the MK2 Skoda Fabia nor where to obtain replacements. On one entry on the forum, there was a comment that DSG gearbox cars have an additional temperature sensor (my car is DSG), but I can find no further mention of this. Any suggestions?

Heater works sometimes
Heater in car does not always work. I get heat in the cabin once the engine has comes up to working temperature from cold. The engine temperature is rock-steady no matter what the conditions and there is no loss of coolant and there is no silicone bag in the system either. Once I reach my destination (after 30 mins of driving) and I then leave the car for 1 hr, when I return, and with the engine back up to temperature, I only get cold air from the heater vents. The car is fitted with climate-control. The fan works on all settings, all the vent-controls work (I can hear the flaps moving and air is directed according to the settings) and the air-con works and blows chilled air, I just don't get warm air AFTER the initial period of driving. I have flushed out the heater matrix, although barely any crud came out (the car is 12 years old and only covered 75,000 miles - I have owned it from new). I think there is a problem with the valve that controls the flow of hot water from the engine into the heater matrix, but cannot find any specific details of this item failing. Alternatively, the problem might be a thermostat or temperature sensor that has gone duff, but I do not know how or where to find these. Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
