  1. So I have come to replace my AC condenser and I can't seem to find any guides besides for the MK7 Golf which, now I have stripped down is totally different. How does the condenser come out? Do you have to loosen up the rad and intercooler and push towards to engine bay and slide out from the top? If so, how? Many thanks! This is the current sitrep.
  2. I'd heard they were doing a ID.3 sporty version. Problems will still be the same. The heatpump design is crap and the non heat pump cars are power hungry on the PTC heaters as if the efficiency wasn't so bad to start with. On top of this the price they're asking is ridiculous. I had an ID.3 First on pre order when they were "cheap". I cancelled it as I felt that VW had just failed with the execution. Ironically I should have kept the order and sold it for a silly profit (as you can no longer get a 77kwh ID.3 anymore). The prices now are just stupid. Even more so now Tesla have dropped their prices. I tried most EVs going and bottom of my lost was Tesla because of the bad press and perceived bad quality. How wrong I was. They're superb cars. I now own a Model 3 LR and couldn't be happier with it. 23 yrs buying VAG cars and I now own a "Yank tank". Just goes to show that VW have lost their way lately. Saying that I'm looking for an Up! GTI to replace the VRS if anyone knows where I can get one at a reasonable price (should have got one of these in 2018 when you could get them brand new for £12500 too)
  3. Probably because the vag group EV offering is shocking. The heat pump/efficiency debacle has made them some of the worst performing EVs out there. The OS/infotainment is appalling and they offer nothing extra to any of its competitors. Up! GTI on the other hand is superb.
  4. Thanks. Found Laser 5063 which looks to be correct fitment. I'll see if I can get from ECP or failing that Amazon.
  5. Thanks. Do euro car parts supply these as I cant see anything in search.
  6. 2014 VRS TDI with a rumbling from the rear so I suspect a bearing on the way out. What size tool do I need to remove the bearing assembly. I've found on America YouTube video that it's a tzn #18 but how does that translate to a UK tool?
  7. You pay the dealer. If you don't want to deal with them, just get the price off their website (you have to enter address and email address but don't worry they don't spam you) and then get in touch with some dealers. Trust Skoda in Wolverhampton and Stourbridge, Rainworth Skoda near Sheffield and Simpsons skoda in Preston are ones I know of that at least used to match DriveTheDeal prices.
  8. The website says that but basically they will once you speak to the dealer. If you're on pcp now anyway you can just VT the car.
  9. Yes they call you, go through everything with you on phone and then they put that through to dealer who will call you to sort deposit etc.
  10. Have you looked on drivethedeal to see how it works out price wise. They just put you in touch with their dealer and will do pcp, part ex etc exactly the same as your local. Bought 5 cars between me and family with them now.
  11. I avg around 50mpg tank to tank on my 184 Manual VRS TDI 64 reg with nearly 70k on the clock. When I first got it last year I was getting around 42mpg. Fuel filter and additives have transformed the MPG and the smoothness of the engine. On a boring 50mph average speed run (of which there are many around the West Mids on M6 whichever way you go!) I can get 62mpg very easily.
  12. It'll always be a 4pot but the exhaust makes a difference. Either a res delete or a new exhaust. I went for a res delete and it pops on overrun and farts on gear change.
  13. Manuals aren't that popular due to the clutch being a major weak point on these models. 310 is the pre wltp model 👍 I reckon I could get £23-25k for my 16 reg 3dr oryx white with just 7k on clock. Fully specced apart from roof and leather.
  14. Demand has shot up on 2nd hand values. No 3 doors being made, and won't be going forward, prices have gone up on new ones and nobody really wants the post WLTP model
  15. Wouldn't change the 4x4 for anything though! And this is what I mean about diesels getting bad press, companies taking them off their lists, its madness. If you get a fuel card too they'll soon be paying the price of that with the massive fuel bill increase. Did the same with us at old company - went from Hyundai i40 1.7TDI to BMW 330e for us managers...only 5 of them but the people that didn't charge them essentially had an uneconomical petrol and were getting 35mpg. I religiously charged mine wherever I could and got 53mpg over the 37k I had it but because of fuel cards people didn't bother and then got moaned at about the fuel costs. Great for tax purposes from an employee point of view, but not from the companies point of view. I highly doubt they will get replaced with hybrids next time which is a shame as they were good cars and the new ones should be better. BMW i3 had the range extender version but this has now being dropped. Can't imagine a diesel range extender would be perceived by the Daily Mail reading public as a good idea. Guess the idea is good in theory but suppose costs and improvements in battery tech outweighs it even though the UK's charging infrastructure is currently woeful. I have a VW ID.3 on order but may cancel it unless the network is improved enough by next summer to make it viable. Primarily ordered it because there are 28 charging points at my work and 2 at SWMBO work, effectively meaning free "fuel" for commuting but my folks moved to Torquay a couple of months ago to an apartment and there are literally no fast charging units anywhere near where they are. I can't even run an extension out their window as they are on 1st floor with a garden between them and the garages and the garages don't have electric!
  16. That is about what I was getting 45-48mpg until I had my family friend mechanic do my 60k service the other week. Its jumped right up to 52-56mpg on my commute (It differs due to routes I take due to traffic) simply by changing the fuel filter (this was changed last year by Skoda apparently when it was still under lease) and chucking a bottle of injector cleaner into the housing. The difference is phenomenal in MPG and performance but that is another topic for another thread!
  17. Good to see opinions from the industry here: https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/car-news/consumer-news/98747/diesel-ban-the-future-of-diesel-cars-in-the-uk-and-beyond/page/0/1 In particular from BMW - Through this, we want to strengthen people’s trust in our diesels. But it would also be helpful if the discussion about nitrogen oxides and particulate matter was based more on reality and facts. Most mention that diesels are needed to contribute to the reduction in CO2
  18. Wasn't much different without it tbh! The 4WD kills the mpg. Plus when I am on a run in it its usually fully loaded. I did manage 42mpg driving Miss Daisy on a 50mile round trip the other week just to see what I could get. I don't think you could get any higher than this in a Golf R unless you are downhill with a prevailing wind! Probably get better once its run in - its only on 6500 miles 😁
  19. Go on the VWROC forum - this is normal. 4WD being the main culprit, DSG being the other. Mine also has 375BHP 🤣 You can get good MPG on the smaller turbo'd 2.0TSI's as I mentioned with my dad's GTI.
  20. Don't recall defending VW group in anything i posted above? Out of context: 'Granted older diesels emit NoX but this isn't harmful to the planet just people'. I was quoting Colin about him asking about is diesel a better fuel for the planet. Yes it is, just older ones not so much for people. That was pretty clear to read in my post in the context of the OP. New diesels are fine and are around the same Nox as Petrol equivalents, this is another part you failed to quote putting my comment further out of context. 'Fake News' Never said Dieselgate was fake news. I am saying that the whole bad press in general about diesels following on from dieselgate is fake news about how bad they are for the environment (see point above, they aren't bad for the environment). People automatically see diesels now as bad, when in fact they aren't, new ones are far from bad and often better than their petrol counterpart. I don't recall ever defaming you at all, let alone about diesels. Only argument I ever got into on here when I had my old octy was with a certain member and his love for his 1.8tsi.
  21. Talk about taking what I say out of context. Good to see nothing changes on here.
  22. I also have the same question after getting some Thule bars off @tigermad the other week. They were on her Superb which only had one hole. When I test fitted them I used the inner holes and they seemed ok?!
  23. When do you think the fuel intake is on the tank? The bottom. So a full tank or empty tank, its still drawing up fuel from the bottom! Just don't do this game in a BMW - it is very accurate. I perfectly planned a journey home once to hit the petrol station when the range would have been between 5-0. About 1 mile before the garage the road was shut, no signs or notice given.....8 mile detour. I ran out about 0.5miles from the garage, fuel tank empty and battery totally depleted. Somehow after a couple of mins it restarted and kangaroo'd onto the petrol station!
  24. Diesel isn't dead. The new S4 can only be had in diesel. Audi are investing heavily in diesel tech. Diesels emit less CO2 than petrol (so contradicts your argument that they are more harmful than petrol to the planet), so much so that CO2 has increased for the first time in years, mainly due to people being conned by petrol being better and as efficient as diesel. Granted older diesels emit Nox but this isn't harmful to the planet, just people. New cars which are Euro 6 emit the same or less than a petrol equivalent with better designed, more reliable DPF's along with AdBlue. My 2014 Octavia VRS can do 58MPG on a run. SWMBO'd Passat GT 1.4TSI DSG can manage around 46MPG. This is a June 2018 model without a GPF so which one is causing the most pollution on a run? She gets 38-42mpg on her commute (19miles dual carriageway with lots of islands, traffic lights and traffic). When she was using my Octavia (when I still had a company car) she was getting 48-51mpg. It is a big difference, and the Octy has 35 more bhp and god knows how much more torque. My dad has a Golf GTI with the 225bhp 2.0TSI and can get 42MPG on a run. I also have a Golf R and can get 35MPG! Normally the R is around 24mpg! There is lots of bad press and frankly fake news on the whole diesel debate and it must be annoying for car manufacturers. Diesel isn't going anywhere and I reckon in a few years we will see a reverse in the trend when the government cotton on that diesels aren't the evil the press make out. The EV infrastructure just isn't here in the UK and wont be for at least a decade.
