  1. Afternoon all. Have a 2005 1.9 tdi BKC Octavia. Must be the unluckiest owner going? Back February, engine was replaced, it was tired, burning oil and headgasket had failed at 186k miles. Sourced new engine, fitted new cambelt kit ( Dayco ) and water pump ( FAI ) and off I trotted. Fast foward to now... 9k miles/6 months later, car loses hideous amounts of power and is clattering like bad. Pulled timing belt cover off as there were no fault codes on vcds or other code reader, found the tensioner arrow pointing towards the front of the car and belt slacker than a wizards sleeve. Found the spring has failed and the adjuster on the front completely shagged, New cambelt kit, again a Dayco kit and the same problem has presented itself AGAIN 500 miles later. Motorfactors has kindly offered to change it for a Gates kit... Has anyone else suffered with timing belt tensioner failures? Jerry can and a match is coming to mind at the moment!
  2. Cheers Mike. Much appreciated. If I were to go much beyond 140 what would be required?
  3. Evening. I know this mighty mule isn't a speed demon, just after some background on tuning these. I'll be looking at a turbo possibly soon as my VNT actuator is rattling its sack off and is feeling a bit flat, so will probably go for an Xman hybrid. My clutch and DMF were replaced with LUK oem about 15K miles ago are these capable of the extra torque? Are the standard Front mounts capable on these? Are the injectors up to the job? Or do I need some off a PD130? I'm not looking at massive numbers, just bringing her up to sctratch with modern diesels and wondering what her limitations are. Many thanks in advance. Tom
  4. Thought as much, hence I said apologies in advance. Think I'll stick with my Scangauge/turbogauge for now.
  5. Morning all. Was after a bit of advice on where to get the above from? Mainly going to be used on my 05 1.9 TDI mk2 Octavia. The only ones I've seen come up are from a place called GenDan? But couldn't stomach the £280ish price tag. I appreciate it might not be a welcomed view, but is there a more cost effective cheaper version for the diy hobbyist? Apologies in advance of this sort of discussion isn't allowed. I used to have OP-Com for my Vauxhall's and that was about 10% of the above price and performed flawlessly for me. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
  6. My old mans Golf Mk6 GTTDI does that when you pop it in reverse and squirts a bit of screenwash, thought it was a lovely little touch. Shame it can't be done on these :(
  7. I'd say that's not a normal rate of consumption for a 1.9. My 05 with 168K has burnt about half to 3/4 of a litre in 7500 miles. Check for blue smoke on startup, blue smoke when on boost ( get someone to follow you when doing so ) If there is any I'd check the boost pipes then to see if they're wet/full of oil. Anymore than a light misting of oil in the pipes or a couple of table spoons worth of oil at the lowest point of your pipework will give an indication of turbo seal failure. If you aren't competent at it, Take it to another garage that can do a full leakdown test which will pin point where the failure is.
  8. Grand job, just ordered 4 brand new Hankook V12 Ventus's. Can't wait to get them on!
  9. Afternoon all. Recently acquired some BBS RS866 18" wheels. Offset is ET54 and width is 7.5J Was just wondering what tyre size you would recommend please? I am thinking 225 40 18's but just wanted to make sure before purchasing. Car is a 1.9 2005 Elegance estate, standard right height, although will be looking to drop it at some point, about 20-30mm or so. Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards Tom
  10. Well don't I feel like a helmet now haha! not used to all these extras on a car
  11. Do it on my Octavia and S2000. You never know what these dealerships are putting in or on your pride and joy, so best be safe and do it yourself
  12. Friend ran the VCDS and the only faults showing was aa dodgey passenger wing mirror heater element and cruisecontrol stalk intermittent fault.
  13. Thanks for the reply. It's an Elegance model. I can't see any sensor on the screen. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place? When I say it is clunking, the arms are not actually sweeping. It's just clunking whenever it wants to when it's at the bottom.
  14. Evening all. Got a problem with the intermittent setting on my 2005 Estate. I've tried disassembling the stalk and cleaning the little slider contacts and they're absolutely spotless, to no avail. They work on medium and fast setting. The adjustable switch when flicked will make the arms do one sweep and that is it. Every now and again though you will hear a thudding almost as if the wipers are parking? Anyone have any other pointers at all? Is there is relay present anywhere to be cleaned/replaced? regards Tom
