  1. Afternoon all. Have a 2005 1.9 tdi BKC Octavia. Must be the unluckiest owner going? Back February, engine was replaced, it was tired, burning oil and headgasket had failed at 186k miles. Sourced new engine, fitted new cambelt kit ( Dayco ) and water pump ( FAI ) and off I trotted. Fast foward to now... 9k miles/6 months later, car loses hideous amounts of power and is clattering like bad. Pulled timing belt cover off as there were no fault codes on vcds or other code reader, found the tensioner arrow pointing towards the front of the car and belt slacker than a wizards sleeve. Found the spring has failed and the adjuster on the front completely shagged, New cambelt kit, again a Dayco kit and the same problem has presented itself AGAIN 500 miles later. Motorfactors has kindly offered to change it for a Gates kit... Has anyone else suffered with timing belt tensioner failures? Jerry can and a match is coming to mind at the moment!
  2. Cheers Mike. Much appreciated. If I were to go much beyond 140 what would be required?
  3. Evening. I know this mighty mule isn't a speed demon, just after some background on tuning these. I'll be looking at a turbo possibly soon as my VNT actuator is rattling its sack off and is feeling a bit flat, so will probably go for an Xman hybrid. My clutch and DMF were replaced with LUK oem about 15K miles ago are these capable of the extra torque? Are the standard Front mounts capable on these? Are the injectors up to the job? Or do I need some off a PD130? I'm not looking at massive numbers, just bringing her up to sctratch with modern diesels and wondering what her limitations are. Many thanks in advance. Tom
  4. Thought as much, hence I said apologies in advance. Think I'll stick with my Scangauge/turbogauge for now.
  5. Morning all. Was after a bit of advice on where to get the above from? Mainly going to be used on my 05 1.9 TDI mk2 Octavia. The only ones I've seen come up are from a place called GenDan? But couldn't stomach the £280ish price tag. I appreciate it might not be a welcomed view, but is there a more cost effective cheaper version for the diy hobbyist? Apologies in advance of this sort of discussion isn't allowed. I used to have OP-Com for my Vauxhall's and that was about 10% of the above price and performed flawlessly for me. Any advice or help would be appreciated.
  6. My old mans Golf Mk6 GTTDI does that when you pop it in reverse and squirts a bit of screenwash, thought it was a lovely little touch. Shame it can't be done on these :(
  7. I'd say that's not a normal rate of consumption for a 1.9. My 05 with 168K has burnt about half to 3/4 of a litre in 7500 miles. Check for blue smoke on startup, blue smoke when on boost ( get someone to follow you when doing so ) If there is any I'd check the boost pipes then to see if they're wet/full of oil. Anymore than a light misting of oil in the pipes or a couple of table spoons worth of oil at the lowest point of your pipework will give an indication of turbo seal failure. If you aren't competent at it, Take it to another garage that can do a full leakdown test which will pin point where the failure is.
  8. Grand job, just ordered 4 brand new Hankook V12 Ventus's. Can't wait to get them on!
  9. Afternoon all. Recently acquired some BBS RS866 18" wheels. Offset is ET54 and width is 7.5J Was just wondering what tyre size you would recommend please? I am thinking 225 40 18's but just wanted to make sure before purchasing. Car is a 1.9 2005 Elegance estate, standard right height, although will be looking to drop it at some point, about 20-30mm or so. Any help would be greatly appreciated Regards Tom
  10. Well don't I feel like a helmet now haha! not used to all these extras on a car
  11. Do it on my Octavia and S2000. You never know what these dealerships are putting in or on your pride and joy, so best be safe and do it yourself
  12. Friend ran the VCDS and the only faults showing was aa dodgey passenger wing mirror heater element and cruisecontrol stalk intermittent fault.
  13. Thanks for the reply. It's an Elegance model. I can't see any sensor on the screen. Unless I'm looking in the wrong place? When I say it is clunking, the arms are not actually sweeping. It's just clunking whenever it wants to when it's at the bottom.
  14. Evening all. Got a problem with the intermittent setting on my 2005 Estate. I've tried disassembling the stalk and cleaning the little slider contacts and they're absolutely spotless, to no avail. They work on medium and fast setting. The adjustable switch when flicked will make the arms do one sweep and that is it. Every now and again though you will hear a thudding almost as if the wipers are parking? Anyone have any other pointers at all? Is there is relay present anywhere to be cleaned/replaced? regards Tom
  15. Evening all. Looking for a bit more power from the old barge. Where in Shropshire/Wales is there any reputable tuners that aren't going to shaft me for just a flash remap? Don't mind travelling a bit, just the old PD scene is a bit foreign to me. Whilst I'm here, does anyone know of any egr deletes? Seems to be a struggle with the BKC engines, no one seems to list them...
  16. Ran Yellowstuffs on my S2000, They soon exhibited signs of fading after 15 minutes of hard driving. Honest I'd opt for DS2500's they take so much punishment, your brake fluid will probably boil before these do! they are however very dusty... Trade off clean wheels for better braking...
  17. Finally stripped and finished the Octy. All it was a case of, some of the bolts come undone leaving 3 in there taking all the load thus leading them to snap! Anyway remains of bolts were removed, some sourced and refitted and jobs a good un! I suggest to forum members to check they're nice and tight, particularly if you've had a DMF and/or clutch replacement.
  18. Evening Smashed my O/S driveshaft on the octavia last night, it's come away from the flange attached to the gearbox leaving 3 bolts snapped inside it Any idea where I can get one from? are there any breakers on this forum that might be able to help me out? Regards Tom
  19. Evening Was wondering if anyone could give me any pointers for an Xcarlink kit for my Octavia? So many to chose from! It's got the 6 CD changer in the boot and has "Stream" written on the front. Any help would be massively appreciated! CDs just won't cut it anymore haha!
  20. Gutted the egr and throttle body last night. Absolutely caked in oil and solid carbon. Several times of carb cleaner and they're a good un. Upon removing the top hat boost pipe, I've found what looks to be a split in the back. Like it was rubbing against the brake fluid level sensor? Anyone have a part number for this pipe? Want to find out how much I'll get shafted for this Cheer's!
  21. Evening all. On my Octavia, when I change gear I have a bit of turbo flutter. Does sound funny at times! but ideally want it eliminating. It goes flat as a fart after changing gear, as the Turbo has stalled, when the turbo comes back onto boost, she pulls quite nicely. TDi's are completely foreign to me, However Turbos as such aren't. I assume its probably down to a Vacuum leak of a sort. Does anyone have any pointers or suggestions where to start? Is it a common problem? EGR is a tad moist with oil, not excessive. Any help would be appreciated!
  22. Thank you mate, I am near Oswestry, My friend told me of the Non canbus types and bought them, he coded them out with VAG-com no warning lights! Cheers! Cheers
  23. Good afternoon! My names Tom, 26 years old and just acquired an MY05 Skoda Octavia Elegance 1.9 tdi 105. Just started a new job at Jaguar Land Rover EMC in Wolverhampton and needed a better run around / cruiser than the Toyota yaris 1.0 I had for pootling back and to from town in. Also to keep the miles off my other toy. Bought from a friend who works in a large IT firm and they were clearing out their fleet. Was just under 157K miles when I bought her. Before purchase had quite a bit of money chucked at it! one bill of £800 for the dreaded DMF and clutch! Replaced with LUK items. I've given her a full filter service, new rear pads and OSR calliper, some London Colour 4300K HID's as you all seemed to rave about them! Very pleased with it so far Already given her a damm good claying and DA'ing, very forgiving paintwork! My other weekend hooner
