  1. Thanks, I'm going to have another go using this method and bin the Haynes manual idea
  2. Yes I think you're right. I think I've been adjusting the valves when they're closed not open. What I should be doing is adjusting when the spring is fully down (valve open). Incredibly embarrassed. I also think I should have my tools taken away from me.... maybe after I've repaired this. :-/
  3. Not running as sweet as it had been, bit more noisy and it certainly hasn't been done in the recommended interval.
  4. Hello all. Soo, today I "tried" to adjust the valves on my Skoda Felicia 1.3 LXi. I'd done plenty of reading up here on the forum and using my Haynes manual before I started. I jacket the right wheel up and put it into 5th gear to make it easier to rotate the crankshaft and then started using the "rule of 9" method from the guide on the forum & Haynes manual. As I got half way through, Valve No 3 I think, I found I could not adjust it. The one's before had been fine and were a little bit out and I adjusted accordingly using the flat head screwdriver & feeler Gauge however number 3 wouldn't have it. No matter how much I moved the adjuster I could not get the feeler gauge in and now it's running allot worse as I haven't been able to get it back to were it was before I started my meddling. It was running ok ish before I started, you could tell it needed doing but nothing bad. Can anyone help please?? Is the issue I'm seeing a sign of something worse? Thanks everyone
  5. Thanks very much @RicardoM. After much searching a very helpful Skoda dealer sent me their last two. Fitted them last week, steering column now solid, and she's passed her MOT! Thanks guys.
  6. @KenONeill I think your spot on. I took the facia off and the column is loose around the two bolts before the join of the column (I can move the steering wheel up and down) . The bolts were pretty tight but after taking them off and looking at another picture on Google it looks like it's missing a couple of black spacers. So no matter how tight it is it's still loose enough to move up and down.... and fail on the MOT. I just need to find an alternative to use as the spacer I think.
  7. Thanks very much for your responses Guys. @KenONeill @RicardoM I know, it's the vaguest of the vague. Might as well say that the chocolate fluffle wuffle valve isn't returning properly. :( All I can see is that the steering column does move a bit when you try and move the steering wheel so I need to do a bit more checking. Oh, my profile has Fabia VRS Mk1 because I have one of those as well. Gruber's little tank (the Felicia) belongs to my other half.
  8. Hi Guys. My trusty Felicia has failed her MOT today. One was the steering rack gaiter, understand that. The other is "Steering Column retaining device is insecure". Has anyone ever come across this before please? Is there any common point of failure that I can go after or is it just a case of it could be anywhere :( Thanks everyone.
  9. Thanks Taylor 93.had the same thing as well today, both fuses replaced as both faulty.... Job done! :-)
