  1. Good for you, I know there are some who love their Rapids, but sometimes you just have to cut your loses and move on. Im in my car nearly every day so it's no good if I'm not comfortable and happy. I think the Octavia is a fantastic car and if I wasn't so displeased with my Rapid I may well have gone there, I feel I need a couple of years away from Skoda but I am already eagerly anticipating the arrival of the KODIAQ, so who knows.
  2. Thanks guys, the one thing I do know is that the driving position in the Freelander is perfect for me, I made doubly sure this time. The seats are great too. It also comes with 2 years warranty and I've bought a 3 year service pack so I'm hoping there won't be any nasty surprises.
  3. Hi all, after just after a year of mostly unhappy motoring and a bad back, I've finally taken the plunge and bought a different car. It's cost me £2,800 to square the finance off but my God do I feel a sense of huge relief. It's not been a particularly happy time as some of you know and the most recent of my issues, a bad back is almost certainly down to the car too. I need to sit fairly far back, but the steering wheel only has a tiny bit of reach so I've found myself leaning forward all the time. A month of driving my wife's car and my back getting much better has pretty much confirmed this to be the case. I know many will be wondering what I've gone for and when I tell you I know many will be laughing out loud and shouting words like out of the frying pan and into the fire!! Or, you thought your Rapid was bad!! It's a 2014 Land Rover Freelander 2, it's yet to prove itself but all reviews rate it highly and it's a low mileage one owner car from Land Rover so fingers crossed. On the plus, it's comfortable, refined to drive, it looks nice and it appears to be very well made, essentially everything my Rapid isn't. I intend to remain a member of this site as it's a great site with lots of interesting chat, I also intend to be very honest about my new purchase which I collect on Wed and I will keep those who are at al interested up to date as to whether I've made a good move, or not????
  4. Mine is way quicker than the 105 bhp stated by skoda, I drive reasonably fast cars at work 240bhp and plus and my Rapid feels almost as quick! I'm not saying it's even near 140, let alone 240, but it's very light indeed and it pulls hard in second third and fourth.
  5. Good for you keeping her on the road, the older they get the better they look in my opinion. Good solid, dependable and honest cars. My wife is Czech and I'm often out there. There are so many still being used as every day cars, just shows they were made well.
  6. The dealer I went to before I found the site called me back today and asked if I'd considered putting more money in to top up the deposit. He was telling me lis price was £27,500 and trade in for mine was £7,000 a full 1k under anything I'd been given elsewhere, ever we buy any car offered me £7,650. I told him about the price they were offering to supply the same car to me for and politely told him I wasn't prepared to have my pants pulled down by him and I wouldn't be buying from them at Milton Keynes Skoda, oh me and my big mouth I wasn't going to mention the name of the dealer
  7. Hi Colin, it's not for fleet discount, you only need buy one car for your own private use, it's for anyone who is a police officer, fire fighter, nurse, in the armed forces etc etc. You simply place an order with them and they source that car with a dealer. That car is then delivered to that dealer and you collect it from them, finance can be done in exactly the same way. The only down side is it might not be through your nearest dealer so you might need to travel to collect it, but for huge savings and in my case about 5k I'm not bothered. Once you have the car it's under warranty so you take it where you want. I take your point that the dealers have overheads but sites like this one and indeed car wow, orange wheels etc do show that there are huge mark ups on cars.
  8. Hi all, as some of you may already be aware I'm not entirely impressed with my Rapid, so much so that I went to a dealer, which I won't name and threw myself on my sword and asked for some kindness from them to get me out of my Rapid and into a brand new Octavia VRS 230. Long story short not a sausage, they massively under valued my car at first then came up by £500 and thought I'd be impressed. He then said he might be able to take a tiny bit off the list price but insisted I told him what my best was on a deposit and what the max I could afford a month. He wasn't doing anything to tempt me and there was no budging on the deal. He said he'd call me tomorrow and see if I could add a bit more deposit to keep them monthly costs down. I'm not and he's not getting a sale. I told a friend about this today and he recommended a website called www.police.motorsourcegroup.com they are a kind of car wow for police, fire fighters, nurses, etc. I looked at the price they could get the exact car I wanted, direct from Skoda delivered to a dealer and with all the same things you get through the dealer for.........£21,705.96 a saving of £4,874.01. To be honest the skoda dealer I went to today were saying the car I wanted was £27,000 so actually even more of a saving. I just wanted to share this with you guys in the hope that this helps more people stop getting ripped off by greedy dealers, as this just goes to prove they over inflate their rrp.
  9. I have a 105 bhp TSI and its like a go cart! It's fun to drive, very responsive and good MPG, I average about 45 to the gallon, costs £50 to fill up and I get about 400 + miles to a tank. I wouldn't go less the 105 bhp though and if I was considering keeping it for a long time I'd defenatly go for a re map.
  10. If that was a brand new programme it would probably be pulled before the end of the series, it's going to live because of what it was. It was just a desperate attempt to copy the last top gear, they missed an opertunity to give us something new and refreshing.
  11. Awful, Evans just constantly shouts in a high pitched voice. No content whatsoever and at the end of the show I knew my time had been taken up watching it, but for the life of me I can't pick out one useful or interesting bit.
  12. I guess unless your asking for an air filter, brake pad or car mat, this is out of the ordinary for them. You are right it is expensive and to be honest I'm only really looking to do it to keep my interest in the car for a bit longer. It's either do this or give it back and loose money, either way I'm going to loose money.
  13. Thanks very much, this is great! The Skoda service dept didn't even know that Skoda did a rapid Monte Carlo so without part numbers it could have been hard work.
  14. Good luck with it, those long straight roads in the middle of nowhere should be good for testing its top speed!!
  15. That car is a bit too low but for goodness sake Skodas standard suspension height is too high!! All of the press shots of their cars and those on their web site are of them lowered by at least 30 mil. I understand that probably as many people don't care or want the car to sit lower, ride a bit firmer and handle better, as do, but why can't Skoda at least make some models available with it THE VRS for example!!!!!
  16. And that's how to run a successful business in my opinion, make customers feel like they are valued and build trust. It's kind of why I bought the car from them in the first place. Any issues I've had with them in the past were because Skoda UK had to get involved. Skoda Uk messed up what my service pack consisted of and Citygate said don't worry we will honer it if Skoda Uk won't.
  17. Thanks Chris, it was refreshingly nice to write something positive for once lol
  18. I really feel that I must let everyone know that my dealer has displayed the most excellent customer service of any dealer I have ever used. I love a good old moan and would not hesitate in critisising poor customer service, in fact it was slightly poor service which lead to them coming good in the end. Anyway I will get to the point now, last year when I purchased my Rapid Sport the dealer offered to put lowering springs on it for me, before they did I asked, will you be doing the wheel alignment once it's done? No they said it won't need it. I queried this because lowering a car adds negative camber ( tyres wearing on the inside) and they checked for me and again so no it's fine. Now bearing in mind they did this in June 15, I noticed 2 weeks ago that my tyres were heavily worn on the inside, just as I predicted they would be. I was mortified but assumed that after 10 months and 10,000 miles they would say it's impossible to prove this is due to the car being lowered and I'd spend the next few months arguing the toss and getting nowhere. Well the car went in yesterday morning and by 3pm Glen from Citygate Watford calls me to say that it's been checked and the alignment is really out, it supports your suspicions and I've spoken to the dealer principle and he's agreed new tyres and free 4 wheel laser alignment at no cost to me and they are sorry and imbarrassed that this has happened. Now I know it shouldn't have happened but for the dealer to be so honest after making the mistake and offering this is in my opinion well worth a mention. When I collected my car today Glen was again very apologetic and big enough to admit that they have learned that you do need to do wheel alignment after lowering a car. Skoda UK you could learn a lot from Glen and the people at Citygate Watford because they have left me very impressed and I will now make sure I use this honest dealer for any future servicing. No ones perfect and they have made mistakes but at least I know they aren't out to rip me off. Thank you.
  19. I'd be interested in seeing some pics too. It's all well and good buying after market kits from maxton and superskoda but you then need to prime them and paint them to a good standard, then work out how to fit them, then fit them to a good standard. Personally I can see me buying the kit £100 cheaper than Skoda do it for and once I've messed it up and probably the car too, taking it to the skip and wishing I hadn't bothered.
  20. Thanks very much, can't believe the price of the front splitter!! The side skirts are reasonable and I'd be greatful if you could get the part number. I'm assuming the side skirts would be the same on the Rapid and the Rapid spaceback.
  21. Thanks for this, can you give me the part numbers and if you don't mind telling me, how much did they quote? I may do it in small chunks and I imagine the bits won't need painting as I think they are just universally black, which suits all colours.
  22. I have noticed that Skoda do a Rapid Monte Carlo in both space back and larger hatch back. Does anyone know if the body kit would be available to have retro fitted by Skoda to my Rapid sport. The side skirts are practically non excistant from what I can see in the pics but the rear splitter looks really nice. I've been looking on the web at body kits and they only come non painted and you would have to get it fitted so maybe not really worth it. If I could ask Skoda to fit it then that seems more convenient.
  23. It's all personal opinion and everyone has different standards. In truth I still quite like it and it looks quite good, apart from head on, too narrow. I have the mk1 Rapid so build may have improved by the time they made yours. Stormchaser that's a good looking car, Lexus do make great cars.
