  1. Good for you, I know there are some who love their Rapids, but sometimes you just have to cut your loses and move on. Im in my car nearly every day so it's no good if I'm not comfortable and happy. I think the Octavia is a fantastic car and if I wasn't so displeased with my Rapid I may well have gone there, I feel I need a couple of years away from Skoda but I am already eagerly anticipating the arrival of the KODIAQ, so who knows.
  2. Thanks guys, the one thing I do know is that the driving position in the Freelander is perfect for me, I made doubly sure this time. The seats are great too. It also comes with 2 years warranty and I've bought a 3 year service pack so I'm hoping there won't be any nasty surprises.
  3. Hi all, after just after a year of mostly unhappy motoring and a bad back, I've finally taken the plunge and bought a different car. It's cost me £2,800 to square the finance off but my God do I feel a sense of huge relief. It's not been a particularly happy time as some of you know and the most recent of my issues, a bad back is almost certainly down to the car too. I need to sit fairly far back, but the steering wheel only has a tiny bit of reach so I've found myself leaning forward all the time. A month of driving my wife's car and my back getting much better has pretty much confirmed this to be the case. I know many will be wondering what I've gone for and when I tell you I know many will be laughing out loud and shouting words like out of the frying pan and into the fire!! Or, you thought your Rapid was bad!! It's a 2014 Land Rover Freelander 2, it's yet to prove itself but all reviews rate it highly and it's a low mileage one owner car from Land Rover so fingers crossed. On the plus, it's comfortable, refined to drive, it looks nice and it appears to be very well made, essentially everything my Rapid isn't. I intend to remain a member of this site as it's a great site with lots of interesting chat, I also intend to be very honest about my new purchase which I collect on Wed and I will keep those who are at al interested up to date as to whether I've made a good move, or not????
  4. Mine is way quicker than the 105 bhp stated by skoda, I drive reasonably fast cars at work 240bhp and plus and my Rapid feels almost as quick! I'm not saying it's even near 140, let alone 240, but it's very light indeed and it pulls hard in second third and fourth.
  5. Good for you keeping her on the road, the older they get the better they look in my opinion. Good solid, dependable and honest cars. My wife is Czech and I'm often out there. There are so many still being used as every day cars, just shows they were made well.
  6. The dealer I went to before I found the site called me back today and asked if I'd considered putting more money in to top up the deposit. He was telling me lis price was £27,500 and trade in for mine was £7,000 a full 1k under anything I'd been given elsewhere, ever we buy any car offered me £7,650. I told him about the price they were offering to supply the same car to me for and politely told him I wasn't prepared to have my pants pulled down by him and I wouldn't be buying from them at Milton Keynes Skoda, oh me and my big mouth I wasn't going to mention the name of the dealer
  7. Hi Colin, it's not for fleet discount, you only need buy one car for your own private use, it's for anyone who is a police officer, fire fighter, nurse, in the armed forces etc etc. You simply place an order with them and they source that car with a dealer. That car is then delivered to that dealer and you collect it from them, finance can be done in exactly the same way. The only down side is it might not be through your nearest dealer so you might need to travel to collect it, but for huge savings and in my case about 5k I'm not bothered. Once you have the car it's under warranty so you take it where you want. I take your point that the dealers have overheads but sites like this one and indeed car wow, orange wheels etc do show that there are huge mark ups on cars.
  8. Hi all, as some of you may already be aware I'm not entirely impressed with my Rapid, so much so that I went to a dealer, which I won't name and threw myself on my sword and asked for some kindness from them to get me out of my Rapid and into a brand new Octavia VRS 230. Long story short not a sausage, they massively under valued my car at first then came up by £500 and thought I'd be impressed. He then said he might be able to take a tiny bit off the list price but insisted I told him what my best was on a deposit and what the max I could afford a month. He wasn't doing anything to tempt me and there was no budging on the deal. He said he'd call me tomorrow and see if I could add a bit more deposit to keep them monthly costs down. I'm not and he's not getting a sale. I told a friend about this today and he recommended a website called www.police.motorsourcegroup.com they are a kind of car wow for police, fire fighters, nurses, etc. I looked at the price they could get the exact car I wanted, direct from Skoda delivered to a dealer and with all the same things you get through the dealer for.........£21,705.96 a saving of £4,874.01. To be honest the skoda dealer I went to today were saying the car I wanted was £27,000 so actually even more of a saving. I just wanted to share this with you guys in the hope that this helps more people stop getting ripped off by greedy dealers, as this just goes to prove they over inflate their rrp.
  9. I have a 105 bhp TSI and its like a go cart! It's fun to drive, very responsive and good MPG, I average about 45 to the gallon, costs £50 to fill up and I get about 400 + miles to a tank. I wouldn't go less the 105 bhp though and if I was considering keeping it for a long time I'd defenatly go for a re map.
  10. If that was a brand new programme it would probably be pulled before the end of the series, it's going to live because of what it was. It was just a desperate attempt to copy the last top gear, they missed an opertunity to give us something new and refreshing.
  11. Awful, Evans just constantly shouts in a high pitched voice. No content whatsoever and at the end of the show I knew my time had been taken up watching it, but for the life of me I can't pick out one useful or interesting bit.
  12. I guess unless your asking for an air filter, brake pad or car mat, this is out of the ordinary for them. You are right it is expensive and to be honest I'm only really looking to do it to keep my interest in the car for a bit longer. It's either do this or give it back and loose money, either way I'm going to loose money.
  13. Thanks very much, this is great! The Skoda service dept didn't even know that Skoda did a rapid Monte Carlo so without part numbers it could have been hard work.
  14. Good luck with it, those long straight roads in the middle of nowhere should be good for testing its top speed!!
