  1. So at 300k I am treating my Fabia (mk1 combi, 1.9tdi) to a load of new parts. On the list is a new output shaft seal (Drivers side, I think that’s the longer shaft side) as the original is spewing oil all over the back of the block. (So it’s also due it’s first ever gearbox oil change too!) Removing the driveshaft is a very familiar job by now, but does anyone have any tips on where to go from there? From memory I think that there is a bolt in the centre of the flange that the driveshaft bolts onto - is this removed and it slides out of a spline which then allows the seal to be prised out, or is that wishful thinking?! Any tips much appreciated! Many thanks, A
  2. Hello all, Sorry to pick up late again but still haven’t solved it.. I have new OBDII reader and got some more info - At idle (warm and cold!), the whistle kicks in after about a minute. The MAF reading doubles, but the engine stays at idle. This doesn’t sound right to me, would love any advice you have! She runs fine though otherwise 🙂 thanks in advance!
  3. Sorry, never knew anyone replied! Thank you both - I’ve tightened everything I can get to.. and she seems to be driving ok so I guess I’ll just take it as “character” until it gives me any other symptoms. 🤪 (did get some breakdown cover though.. 😂)
  4. Hi All, 1.9 PD100 Bohemia estate - I’ve changed the engine and fitted a new turbo (all standard) it’s on 250k but the only original parts are the box and steering rack.. Since this, I have a faint Whistle from EGR/Turbo area, related to accelerator (changes pitch when pulling away). I thought it was turbo but noticed it also comes on whilst ticking over, but only after a few minutes. When I touch the gas it disappears as the revs settle again. When the new (newer, 67k) engine arrived, the Exhaust manifold was severely coked up so I gave it good clean. Does this sound like a knackered EGR? I’ve had so much of this car apart it would be amazing if someone could save me more pain. I’ve changed the front end of exhaust/cat and Gasket as thought the Cat might be damaged. thanks in advance!
  5. Thanks! Dropped in a 64k BSW engine with a brand new Mahle turbo, results are very good so far! Feels a lot better than when I bought it, probably because all the moving parts have been replaced since. Triggers Fabia.
  6. Afternoon! finally had bad luck with my Bohemia Estate, 1.9 PD100 AXR. Turbo failed and hydrolocked the engine after a very short low rev runaway, at 236,000miles. I don’t have the funds for a new car so we went for a rebuild, drained it down and bought a new turbo. Many thanks to my Dad who has rebuilt it over the last few days, it’s running but very rough. Plan is to strip it and see what issue we have, but if it comes to it we might take on an engine change, so I had a few questions.. Could a VRS TDI fit? (BLT?) Are ATD/AXR interchangeable? does anything else fit, and what issues am I likely to have? open to any tips, but buying another car isn’t really an option for me at the moment.!
