  1. That's only 120,000 miles. It's just about run-in now. You can use all the revs now ;)

Do you think?? Is it that long living? Actually i have no problems with the mechanics of the car, it runs perfectly. The problems are with the electronics, i changed the driver's door lock once and it's broken again, the window motor is broken on both driver and passenger's side. I lost the outside temperature sensor, the roof antenna is a mess, and my windsheild is cracked.

But it runs very good, and accelerate fine!

  2. Still want to know?? It's the lever to open the A/C onto the small compartment so you can keep a can of soda cold, just like the "rotating black hole in the glove compartment". Although i read the manual, it took me some time to figure this out! After i changed the internal evaporator of the A/C, which needed the whole of the dashboard to be taken off and reattached again, it stopped getting any cold air out

  3. My 2004 mk1 saloon 1.2HTP had a broken down alternator a couple of months ago. I insisted on driving it though, and after a while it started to do strange things. The rev and speed dials started to act bizzare at first then stopped working completely. My horn used to sound a lot longer than I press it. All the lights in the instrument cluster lit up, and the steering wheel became very heavy. After that it started to lose power every now and then till it came to a complete stop, and all that happened on my way to the mechanik. I had to call him and he came and towed the car to his workshop. I drained the battery as i was trying to reach the workshop. When a new alternator went in, the car started to work normally, although i had to change the battery a couple of days later.

  4. I mean a shorter mast - the new one I have to replace it is perhaps only two/three inches long.

I have tried unscrewing the original long mast out, once it gets to a certain stage it just continuously spins. As though it has a 'security' lock. I am told the reason the original mast unscrews a certain amount is so that it can be folded down when going through a car wash (not sure how much truth there is behind this) ?

Thank you for your reply anyhow.

Yes mine too is like this, it only loosen so you can fold it down into a carwash or if you need to cover the car (instead of removing it completely) it never screws off . Kind of security measure too, so it won't be stolen!
