  1. Hi all, so I promised an upgrade. I have in principle traded the car in for a Volvo s60 D3. Not the update I think many wanted but it was driving me insane. Thanks to everyone who commented and tried to help, it really was appreciated.
  2. Thanks mate. I'll keep you all updated ☺️
  3. Checked my manual, this is the one I have. I agree, I just hope this is the issue. All said and done I'd prefer it as I'm not exactly flush at the moment.
  4. If it turns out to be the oil filter, I'll feel very stupid for not knowing all this. But, being a student I'll get over it very quickly when I don't have to get another car. Although I'm only a student for a month and then I have a job lined up.
  5. So in theory of the pressure was off, it wouldn't activate?
  6. Thanks for this, I'll have to check my manual in the morning. The place the lights are in looks different to mine. I think they may have updated some of the range in 2011 as the Haynes manuals don't cover my engine, it's in a later edition. That said, it'll clear that particular concern up when I check tomorrow as I find it odd that I can't find it anywhere when I turn on the ignition.
  7. Thanks for that. I did wonder if I came across as one of those people I know from tech, where they know just enough to be a pain in the arse but not enough to fix the problems themselves 🤪
  8. Just found the recept it was done at a VAG specialist. It says full kit but not much more than that.
  9. Ok, so @sepulchrave I have done the screwdriver thing after looking at a quick tutorial. I can't seem to pin the noise down. Whether this is because the fuel pump is so noisy or not I'm not sure. But, it doesn't seem to be coming from near the chain. @xman I'm going to order the bits today and change it all. I'll look at euro car parts and gsf. Hopefully that cures it. I'm not sure why garages are fobbing me off. Maybe they think I'm being a bit paranoid or maybe they think I'm an idiot? There doesn't seem to be an oil warning light as I think, from what I've seen, it comes up on the computer display where the time etc is. The chain was done before I bought the car, about 20k miles ago. I'll dig out the receipt.
  10. Third garage now who has just looked at it and said that it's bad.
  11. I didn't realise I could do anything like this. So this is very useful for me. Thank you.
  12. I took it in for them to look. They literally listened with the bonnet up and said "it's the little end" and "it wouldn't be a cheap fix." And that was it.
  13. Thanks man, I'll have to check this out myself as maybe, they just didn't remember correctly?
  14. So, the VW specialist have said it's bottom end noise. So it's game over man... Game over.
  15. So... The oil filter was fitted correctly. I've emailed the VW specialist near me and I am waiting for them to get back to me.
  16. Thanks man, good info. No way I'm getting that off though. Looks like I'll have to get an oil filter removal tool for it.
  17. I might have to see if I can pull it off. Will I not end up ****ing oil everywhere if I do that? The noise stays no matter what I do. Sometimes if I turn the engine off and then turn it back on the knock is really loud until I rev the car.
  18. Thanks Pete you and xman have been extremely helpful. I will dig it out later and leave it with you for when you have time. As I say, much appreciated.
  19. @xman @Breezy_Pete It's Bosch F 026 407 183. I also have made a longer video of the issue(s) https://youtu.be/eC09O1ZRsjw
  20. Nice one mate, I'll check it out tomorrow when it's light.
  21. Sorry I haven't quite answered every question. It was making this noise before the service but it only made it if I revved it hard and released the accelerator, which made me think it was a loose bracket on the exhaust. The knocking at idle has only started recently.
  22. I'm not sure if I'm being honest. It was 5-30 oil the one that meets VW specifications. The garage sorted out the oil filter.. I did have a warning for a throttle body sensor having low voltage a few times but I know it needs a new battery and the warning disappeared after a drive.
  23. Thanks mate, I haven't no. But I'll give them a call tomorrow. Hopefully it's worth them looking as it's only worth about £3,500. Weirdly, when I started it up then and it was sitting at 1000 rpm it wasn't making the sound at all and then as soon as it dropped to it's normal idle speed it started again.
  24. I've not, is it easy to locate? I did suspect engine mount because the engine seems to move quite a bit when it's running. But I would have thought the garages I took it to would have picked up on that. At least one of them anyway.
