  1. Can anyone help me identify the wire colours into the LH & RH rear light pods? I think I am colour blind as I cant match them to any colour charts (words) I have found. I THINK I have RHS Brown (earth?), blue/yellow, blue/white, blue/green, green/yellow (??) LHS Brown, black/white, blue/green, blue/? But as I say I may be way off. Any identification of what the wires are (colour and position in each side plugs) would be most gratefully received.
  2. Just how does it work. There are two rear lights bulbs one of which doubles as the fog light. Is the fog in a separate wire or does it have two wires one from the fog switch to add the extra power? Make sense? I am wary not to mess up the normal lighting and getting a dash warning light
  3. I have a RHD 2008 Octavia MKII L&K estate. I need a LHD fig light. Can anyone tell me the simplest way to rewire across the boot pls? What colour is the fog light wire? Can I splice in or run the new wire out of the socket directly. Where does the wire go on the LHS? BTW I assume my Skoda is standard, it has a dual function single filament fig bulb which simply doubles in intensity when lit. Will the LHS do the same or does it require a different bulb? Thank you.
  4. I think it has a dual filament bulb on the right side. Can't see how it would be swappable on a 2008 MK2??
  5. Anyone know if the rear fog can be easily switched to the other side (left for EU). Can the bulbs housing just be swapped and the appropriate wire rerouted. The reversing is fine as it's both sides.
  6. Hi guys for many months now i have a warning light on the dash and it seems to be the nearside side light out. Attempts to change it did nothing especially as attempts to decouple the wiring socket first failed. I couldnt get leverage to disconnect the full unit socket and so ended up twisting the unit around and just getting enough space to change the sidelight bulb. The old one was blown and blue (any symptom clues there?). Do MK2 2008 L&K take any bulb? Any suggestions on what else to try? Do special sprays help clear **** off connectors?
  7. A sort of related question - can anyone suggest a good way to wire in a sat nav sitting on the dash? If only to tell me a good route to try to feed a wire down to the USB (cigarette lighter socket). Or is it easy to use a spare switch on the console? Warning I a no electrician though. Thx, Bob
  8. Most of the quotes I have had are running between £400-500 and that in the impoverished North of England.
  9. I need somebody to put me right. I am looking to buy a 2008 automatic Octavia Mk II and I asked an amateur car guy friend about changing the gearbox oil. He said 'never, sealed unit, not polluted by engine wear'. Well that doesn't sound right to me so any views most welcome. Mileage 67000.
  10. Thank you for the response but sadly it serves to highlight the problem i.e. time against mileage. Maybe what I should have asked is what are the worst cases of failure you have experienced ? Miles and time (age) of failure against services or replacement? I always get the feeling with questions about cambelts the answer is related to ' are you feeling lucky punk?' I should add that when suggesting I go look at the belt I come from an age of BMC A series engines and have never moved on 🙂
  11. Well I understand but I feel dealers will always err on the side of generating income. My hope was to get a view of experience over marketing.
  12. Like many others I apologise if this subject has gone before but my case is unique and hence I felt it OK to ask again. I am looking to buy the following vehicle. Octavia MKII 2L TDI PD L&K Automatic 2008 plate, 67000 miles. Dealer service at 21K shows cambelt changed. I assume that was because they said it was 4 years old. So it is now 8 years older but with only a extra 55K miles added over that time. What is the opinion on time over milage when considering a replacement cambelt please? Dealer services up to 49K in 2016, no evidence since. Thx Bob
