  1. SOLVED *** OCTAVIA MK2 2011 had the bonnet release go on my octavia and tried just about everything to get it open... 1. Offside wheel and liner off, see if I can get access to the cable... Absolutely no access to do this, the location where I suspected the cable had detached was just too far away. 2. Under tray off, no access to the bonnet latch from below. You're blocked by the radiator / hoses and the underside of the front bumper. Plan B.... A. Took out the lower black plastic grille (the one that's central and at the same level as the fog lights).. No screws or special tools, it just pulls out with a bit of perauation. B. This allows you to get your arm up behind the main front grille, use a torx 27 to remove the single torx bolt which is directly behind the skoda badge. The front grill then tips forward and you find its still firmly attached along the bottom edge. You have about 5 or 6 very small torx screws securing the main grille, behind the chrome surround. C. Carefully remove the chrome surround along the bottom, it clips off... You can then drill out the plastic that the small torx secure into. I used an 8mm drill bit. Once all drilled out the entire grille lifts out. D. You can see the bonnet catch now, just below it gets screwdriver in to pry down the thick plastic cover beneath the latch. Jam the handle of a screwdriver in to hold this civer open which will will allow you to feel the latch mechanism. E. If you feel to the left of the mechanism and find the cable running in towards it.. Follow the cable until it meets the latch, on the other side of the stop the cable meets you'll feel a lobe slightly recessed... Get a small screwdriver in front of it and push it towards the windscreen of the car (away from you basically)... The bonnet will pop. F. FIX THE PROBLEM.... You'll see a small plastic box about a foot to the left of the latch, it junctions the cable. You'll see one cable has popped out. Put it back it then use 3 or 4 cable ties to secure this box firmly closed. That's it, easy job now I know how. Hope this helps 👍🏻
  2. Cheers for that. Will give it a go 👍🏻
  3. Sorry to revive this.... But can someone give me a bit of advice... I'm halfway through taking the grill off my 2011 octavia because the bonnet catch has gone. I have the torx screw out behind the skoda badge and the top of the grill came straight forward, as for yet bottom of the grill it seems to be FIRMLY in place, almost as if it's screwed into place. I a close to breaking it I reckon as have tried to pry it out as much as possible. Can I clarify, do I need to remove the chrome trim in full before the main black plastic grill will come away? Thank you!
  4. I've had the dreaded coil light come on yesterday followed by limp mode for an hour of motorway driving... Nightmare! Plugged it in and its code p0403 EGR system issue. The car is a 2011 octavia 1.6tdi CR, just turned 100k miles... Never had an egr or dpf light or issue before. I have a couple of questions if you could help.... How difficult is the egr solenoid to access (is it at the back of the engine near the main egr valve?), and have you an experience decarbonising companies like terraclean?... They quote around £300+ for an egr clean... Worth it? Thanks for your help! Marc
  5. Yeah, I used the same rear wiper fuse and have the same dash cam. Great system.
  6. Just had my timing belt, aux belt, water pump and all the tensioners and pulleys changed on my 2011 1.6tdi octavia... Approaching 70k miles. They are all like brand new for info, not so much as a crack on either belt or weep on the pump, or wiggle on the tensioners. I know it's always the worry and what if scenario if you shoot past the service schedule date which is 5 years... I'd already gone over on time and mileage by a bit, but I was confident that that was okay as I'd inspect the belts regularly to see if anything dodgy. Just a quick post to let you know that 6 years and 70k miles doesn't take as much toll as you'd think on your belts etc, which for info are made by Dayco and branded as both dayco and VW /AUDI. I also realise no two cars are the same!
  7. Thanks guys, kind of what I was hoping to hear. Think I'll stand fast and not fix what technically isn't broke. I wonder if the emission police will come looking for us renegades at some stage!?
  8. Hi all, I've finally received my official skoda letter asking me to book in the octavia 1.6tdi to have the emmision 'fix'. I've been reading some horror stories, mainly about how the fix puts more stress on the egr and dpf causing their lifespan to shorten significantly. The 2011 octy has 65k on the clock and they've all been trouble free... I Obvs don't wish to end up with egr / dpf issues, so anyone got opinions or experiences of the same concerns? I'm thinking of just keeping the car as is though if I ever sell it (won't be for a long time) then the buyer may be put off... Or will it become a compulsory fix in time to come?? Cheers, Marc
  9. Too much oil would be my guess.... Did you dip on level ground the first time? And maybe before the new oil had time to gather fully in the sump? False reading first time you dipped showing less oil than was actually put in?
  10. Inside overhead light coming on or glove box light? If they aren't coming on then start looking at your main fuses and contact clamps on the battery... They can become corroded with dampness causing a poor or broken contact.... Wire brush both the positive and negative.

  12. I have the 1.6tdi Estate on 11 plate... The engine pulls you along adequately but it isn't going to win any land speed records. I recently did a long trip up north 400+ miles each way, 3 adults, baby and a stack of luggage. No problems with pulling all that and returned around 57 mpg. The highest mpg I've experienced is early 60s, the worst around 50 mpg. Great motors, all in all.
  13. They are axing all unlimited data plans from the old era, that contract they offered does have unlimited sms, they just don't state that, all packages have it now I think. The reason they're hitting you for 25 quid is because of the new unlimited data plan. I'm on unlimited calls, text and 8gb of data for 17 quid on sim only... . Never come close to using the 8gb, and I'm a heavy day today user. Reduce your data and pay a lot less, especially if you say you're leaving.
