watermann's post in Finding ignition switched positive in engine bay. was marked as the answerBig thanks Wino, Spot on. That was about the only colour I didn't break in to with a needle on the end of a test lead ! There is a handy bit of loom near the coolant bottle and in there I can tap in to black / purple trace for ignition switched and grey / red trace which is sidelights.
The kit I've used is an Osram PX-4, it's superb quality and has fitted really nicely - almost as if it was made for the Fabia. I'll run it for a few weeks and if all good will write it up.

watermann's post in Mysterious engine spec in 2010 Fabia was marked as the answerWell I've been to see the car again today (and have bought it) mystery solved.....
Yes I took a photo of the spec sticker but not the one in the boot, it was the one in the service book.
The service book has been with the car since new, has the registration number on it and all the correct service info with miles...
But the VIN number on the sticker in the service book isn't the same as the one on the V5. It's a few digits different, So what must have happened is the original Skoda dealer in Stoke mixed it up with one from a TSI and over the last 5 years nobody has noticed.
(And somewhere out there is a 2010 Fabia TSI trundling around with my service book in it's glovebox !)
