Finding ignition switched positive in engine bay.

Featured Replies

This is on a 2010 Fabia 2 HTP. I need to find something to signal DRLs. No current draw but I'm still conscious of upsetting Canbus. Just can't see a way of getting a wire through the bulkhead to the fusebox and can see nothing obvious to tap in to in engine bay. Cooling fan was a thought but I believe they now run after engine off. There must be something I could pick up and/or is there a standard colour in Skoda land for ignition switched positive  ?

On a Mk1 there's a switched live feed to the power steering pump, a black wire with yellow stripe. There's also a black/purple switched live going to the fan control module just nearby.

Couldn't guarantee everything would be the same on a Mk2, but I think you might find they are.

Terminal 15 wires (switched 12V) are usually black, or black with another colour stripe.

You need to bring a wire through to the switch anyway do you not to have the DRL's go off when the Side Lights / Headlights come on.

I assume headlight dipped beam bulb is a switched live as it will turn off / on as you start / turn off the car.

Big thanks Wino, Spot on. That was about the only colour I didn't break in to with a needle on the end of a test lead ! There is a handy bit of loom near the coolant bottle and in there I can tap in to black / purple trace for ignition switched and grey / red trace which is sidelights.

The kit I've used is an Osram PX-4, it's superb quality and has fitted really nicely - almost as if it was made for the Fabia. I'll run it for a few weeks and if all good will write it up.

Photos of wiring and the units themselves please
