  1. I'd of thought it would, I drive the 2010 vrs estate, don't know that the dash board is different?!? Nope, existing fascia fits back over it
  2. It's a straight swap for the Bolero unit. Mine came with GPS Ariel, you can buy the DAB kit as an extra (I did and it works well) It came with (very limited) fitting instructions but it's pretty straightforward
  3. Hi all, Hope this is Ok to post here - I upgraded from my bolero head unit to an android based unit (which is awesome btw) and so no longer need the Fiscon Bluetooth Kit I had installed. These are around £250 normally, I've got it up on eBay with a starting price of £32 if anyone needs one. Link here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/202905797205
  4. I have just installed one of these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133240734328 Was very easy install and works very well. Very happy with it
  5. Hi Ken, thanks for replying. Ive checked the obvious fuses and they were all fine. I'm not sure how to check the power supply, can you guide me on this? Many thanks Jim
  6. Morning all The wife's Octavia MK1 has developed a slightly odd fault - none of the backlighting for the Speedo, rev counter, fuel gauge or temp gauge work. All the instrument warning lights function as normal, just none of the instrument backlighting - which makes driving through the local average speed cameras at night a bit worrying!, I naively expected it to be a bulb, so took the dash off to find it was all LED!! Bit stuck now - please can anyone make any suggestions what to try next? Many thanks Jim
  7. No problems going into gear and no creeping either apparently!
  8. Evening all Need a bit of help with this one! The fluid level in the wifes octavia is dropping slowly. Still have a pedal, had the car up on a set of ramps and cannot find a single leak underneath or visibly within the bay! can anyone suggest where I need to check next? many thanks JIm
  9. Thanks all, will give that a go! Juat had the bloody stereo out as well to fit handsfree kit!! Oh well....
  10. Thanks softscoop Can you give me any ideas where I can pick up a switched and permanant 12v feeds? In the area of the fusebox?
  11. Good afternoon hive mechanical mind I started trying to wire a dash cam into the front of the wifes Mk1 Octy this morning. The kit comes with a hardwire set (which i prefer) instead of a plug into ciggy lighter. The instruction are mostly in chinese, with a google translate giving me the following: Black - Ground Red - ACC Ignition Yellow - 12v Driver(?) VGA plug - irrelevant as not using: So, I put the red and yellow wires together into a piggyback fuse and plugged that into fuse 12 on the fuse panel (Diagnostic port power). I put the ground wire into a large ring terminal and put that on what I think is the relay panels earth as below: And, ignition on....... NOTHING HAPPENS!!!!!! ARRRRGGGHHHHHH!!!!!!!! I have checked with a different camera and that's not the problem. Can anyone help this simpleton why it is that I haven't got this cracked???
  12. Morning all Since we bought it 3 years ago, my wife's Octavia Mk1 (04 Diesel, ALH 1898cc) has had a fault. Each time the ignition is switched on, the oil pressure warning light (little oil can picture on dash) flashes 3 times then goes off. The cause of this has been something that has steadily driven me around the bend for the last 3 years, but has now finally been solved and I wanted to share in case it helps anyone else out. Symptoms we experienced Oil can warning light on dash flashes 3 times when ignition starts Air Con does not work Air con re-circulation does not work Things I tried Replacing Oil Level sensor in bottom of Sump (twice with new parts) - No change Checking wiring from Oil Level sensor with mult-imeter - all working Replacing Bonnet Catch sensor (twice) - No Change Checking wiring from Bonnet catch sensor with multi-meter - all working Unplugging Re-circulation motor behind glove box - no change Checking wiring to re-circulation motor with multi-meter - all working Checking wiring to air con compressor - fault discovered - wiring had chafed through. Repair with solder and heat shrink - fault still occurred. At this point, I noticed that the common thing to all these components was that they all passed through the same fuse in the fuse board beside the drivers door - specifically Fuse 5 (7.5 amp). This fuse was blown and I replaced it before testing each of the components. However, it continued to blow at random intervals from 30 seconds to 5 minutes and it was not affected by the activation of any of the components running through it. I bit the bullet and took the car to some professional auto electricians. They identified that it must be a wiring short leading away from the fuse board. What became telling was that the fuse actually blew when the drivers door was opened or closed. Pulling the wiring loom from behind the fuse board where it runs into the area of the chassis near the door, a wire was found to have rubbed against the sharp metal of the chassis. This was repaired and the problem was solved. This fault has cost me over £200 in various parts and more time than I want to think about, but we now have working air con and no flashing oil lamp! Hope this helps someone out there
  13. Gents, apologies that I have only just come back to this, it took some time! So I managed to find a friend of a friend who is a mechanic with 20+ years experience and MOT tester qualifications, He graciously came to mine and we spent the morning getting into this. We popped the timing belt cover and the belt itself looked all fine. Our initial thoughts were that one of the governors on the fuel pump had failed, so I bought a second hand pump and we were planning to drop it in, but when we removed the timing belt completely we discovered something interesting. The paint marks on the timing belt pulley, which had been put on by someone during the last timing belt change, were no longer aligned!! Once we got the timing belt off, it became apparent that the reason for this was that the timing belt had a roller bearing stuck through it!! We quickly identified that this was from the water pump, which had not been changed during the last belt (before I bought it!). The pump had dis-integrated and its bearings had all fallen out, one of which had wedged through the belt and caused the fuel pump pulley to "skip" its timing. New belt, water pump and correctly aligned fuel pump and she started on the first turn! Thanks very much for all your suggestions gents, I hope this thread ends up helping someone else out. Incidentally, if anyone needs an fuel pump for a MK1 - I have one going spare
