Front passenger window operation
Hi all, I recently discovered the electric window for the front passenger doesn't work properly: If you press the button so as to allow the window to fully close automatically, what happens is that once it gets to the fully closed position, it suddenly rebounds back to about half open. You then have to carefully inch it closed manually in several small steps - it will close fully that way. Not a huge issue but a bit of a pain, esp on a 2 yr old car. Anyone had similar? The dealer wants to charge ~£115 diagnostics to determine whats going on and whether it can be fixed under warranty. Does this seem fair (I don't think so?) and its difficult to see how warranty might not apply? Anything I can try myself to remedy? Thanks for any advice. Cheers!

Servicing - Dealer costs & digital records
Hi all, Just wondering how many of you use dealers for service requirements? I had my Mk3 for a year now (its a 23 plate) and its now saying it wants an oil change and inspection. Aware of the new digital service records, I figured Id get the dealer to do it - but was shocked by the ~£305 quote. For an oil change?! And so I remembered why I never use dealers for servicing! Id have thought something approx 1/3 of that figure would have been fair. Will most unaligned independent garages be able to update the digital service records? Finally, when I had my old Mk2 I did ~20k a year and so every service I would replace all the filters etc, regardless what the book asked for. My mileage now is much lower, ~5k a year - is it best just to stick to what the car asks for itself? Thanks a lot for the input!

Possibly a silly question about a spare wheel
Hi Carlson, Many thanks for this informative reply, much appreciated. I checked and the tool kits Kopacek stock are original skoda ones, the 16" version displays the exact part number you quoted. They list it at 99 euros. https://www.kopacek.com/skoda/superb-iii/superb-iii-original-skoda-kit-for-spare-wheel-change-16 Interesting what you say about the Mk2 wheel possibly being a bit wider - I cant see anything about the rim dimensions on it, its only has stickers warning you to stay under 50 mph when the wheel is fitted. Is it possible to check somehow? I will give it a shot however, even if its not perfect, it might do as a stop gap! Cheers! GS

Possibly a silly question about a spare wheel
Hi Carlston, I had one of these for my outgoing Superb Mk2, I presume it will be fine to keep it for my new Mk3? Better that than buying a new one. I might buy a new Skoda tool set though. However, Kopacek stock a kit for an 18" spare and a kit for a 16" spare. This might be a stupid Q, but how would the kits vary? I mean the jack has to be rated the same to lift the car, and the bolt sizes are the same in each case etc. Are the tools the same, its just the size of the foam holder / wheel insert which is different? Cheers!

SE Technology - Amundsen query
Hi all, Im going to look at a 2023 SE technology Superb, which has an Amundsen head unit. My outgoing car is a 2011 Superb Elegance, which had a Columbus Unit (with CD and SD card). Does Skoda still use both Amundsen & Columbus? My impression previously was the Amundsen was more basic, but there was little practical difference, esp for someone like me, who prefers things to be simple and so doesn't tend to use all the bells and whistles in modern cars. My queries were: - does the Amundsen in my mooted new car have a smaller screen than a Columbus model (if available)? - does the Amundsen require an SD card of maps to be permanently inserted? - the car has Bluetooth and so I presume the Amundsen will talk nice with my Android Phone, wrt music and phone calls? (I was quite happy with CDs tbh, you know where you are with CDs!) Thanks a million for any advice Cheers

Wheel alignment / worn control arms & bushes
Thanks again for all this Advice Ed, ultimately I have decided to change the car. I wrote a list of stuff needing done (or I would like to do) and it was fairly long and certainly more than the value of the car! Cheers!

Wheel alignment / worn control arms & bushes
Hi there, Thanks very much for such a detailed reply, sorry it took me a couple of weeks to acknowledge. Before seeing your reply, I spoke to some mechanics who were advising that this is the reality of owning an older 4x4 model - that things start to sag and they eat tires. Like you, they advised its a topic which could grow arms and legs and be very costly. It was clear that - without some specific scope or instruction from me - they were not keen to get tangled up in this, which I can appreciate (busy). I had hoped they might be able to assess the condition and advise what replacement parts might improve the situation, if not make it perfect. So I am not really sure what to do now - I went for cheaper tires last time as I was aware of this problem and they have only lasted just over a year and about 8,000 miles which is rubbish. All the wear is on the inside edges, is this inevitable with these models or would something like new ball joints aleviate it? I don't have the experience / know how to do any work myself unfortunately, so if its not the kind of task a garage would relish, do I just need to suck it up and replace the tires annually? Thanks for any advice Cheers Edit - another issue I noticed a few times (not common, very intermittent) is an occasional clunking noise when accelerating at low speed 10-20 mpg, I suspected that was connected to a failing ball joint or saggy suspension too.

Wheel alignment / worn control arms & bushes
Hi all, I have a 2011 170 Combi 4x4, approaching 108 k miles. I find I go through tires too quickly, as they tend to run on their inner shoulders. When I had my last alignment done, I was advised the control arms were showing signs of wear and obv the bushes were softening due to age. Can anyone please advise me what parts should be replaced (front and rear) to allow a good alignment and help prevent this premature tire wear? The mentioned control arms (there is upper and lower arms I believe). Is it worthwhile looking at poly bushes? Would appreciate a steer to any supplier / kits too. As a general question, is it worth rotating the tires on a 4x4 model to prolong tire life? Although she is getting on a bit, I am fond of the old bus and it does what my family needs - so im not in a rush to get rid. It passed its MOT last month, with only advisories on tires. Of the 108 k miles, about 96k are mine and I would like to burst the 100 k at least lol Thanks a lot for any advice Cheers
