My impression is that mine will end up in a scrapyard, not in a auction as I was told, otherwise how could they skip all the mechanical/electronic tests? They took a look at the bodywork, ticked a few boxes, then ran the valuation which brought the original quote of one grand to 630. If my car is only 3-year old, I definitely wouldn't go there.

Indeed i had ingress a little while ago -- nightmare! Not that old at all, this I know, so I'm shocked by the way it went down.

This is the main reason that leaves me no option. They can't determine the cause or fix it. Disconnection with the central control appears to fix the battery drain, but like you said, there could be other switches/controls draining it. It's 2.5tdi automatic. I'm not planning to part exchange it. I was considering putting it on autotrader - sold for parts, as I doubt anyone would drive it in the current climate of diesel-phobia, plus the door that won't open. It's already turning into a money pit. I also had water ingress (perhaps due to the design flaw), which could trigger a chain of problems. I did fix the electric window a couple of times already during my 2-year ownership. Guess I wasn't all that rational when I bought this, there was a brand sentiment, as my wife's car is skoda (petrol blue yeti too), but comparing the 20k-mile yeti and 80k-mile skoda is non-sense. Happy New Year to all. I came back from my holiday and wasn't surprised that my superb can't start once again. Before this incident, I've spent more than I had believed a skoda should require during its lifespan. Many visits to garages were battery related. The main deal breaker here is that rear right door is disconnected from the control, because a technician believed that the door lock was faulty and draining the battery. I really don't think I can afford to look after this babe. 06 plate, 83000 on the clock, with only 3 doors functional, could I have you guys' opinion as to how you would handle this? If I sell it, what's the asking price? If I scrap it, is there any government scheme (not the scrappage purchase scheme)? Thanks a lot!

Hi all, I'd appreciate your expertise and experience with MK1. I found a puddle underneath after leaving it in a tesco park for about 1/2 hour. I didn't use the A/C at all. It didn't look or smell like any oil, and I'm almost certain it's more like water. The photo shows where it comes from -- the little hole on the bottom of the photo. I have a short vid but can't upload it. The location is roughly 25cm from the front passenger door side (side-way), and length-way, just behind the front wheel it appears. This has happened twice, 5 days apart, and in both cases, I didn't switch on the A/C. Should I check the coolant reservoir level? What could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

Sorry if this has been discussed, but it`s beyond my belief that the area around the hinge of boot cover can be flooded. After a few day`s rain, I found little puddles around the boot cover hinges. The leaves block the water outlet a little, but the shape of the area (like a small basin) is the primary reason. I'm sure that at speed or on a gradient, the water will be blown away (or dried), but is there any reason for that shape/design? How is the water there actually channelled? Anyone has a manual that shows it?

This has got to be a silly question, but I'll ask anyway. When the ignition is off, is the battery supposed to feed power to the radio, electric seat, etc? I know that the cigarette lighter sockets are always on, but it struck me when I was able to turn on the radio and adjust my seat without turning the ignition... Somebody please enlighten me

I completely agree with you - nothing else (well, the parking aid isn't working, and I have to fix the electric window) disappoints me. But I'm not even sure what needs replacing any more. If excessive movement of the multilink suspension is due to worn bushes, why replacing the droplink and arms? Is this just how garages rip us off or those parts need replacing after a certain mileage?

To Danny57 and Tdi1.9, Good question - I need to have a look at the MOT certificate. They said they sent cars to a garage that does MOT (well, unless that's registered under the dealer's name as well). I won't touch the window and suspension until my bank account is replenished, and until I get to see how bad the suspension really is. The tyres look pretty new to me, but the front ones are different makes. Braking seems reasonably responsive when I exited A1. I don't hear any knocking at the moment (touch wood). I am still impressed by the solid build quality and smooth/quiet ride. I guess I just have to be patient and accept that there got to be wear-and-tear problems and I shall address them one at a time.

No these aren't disclosed. These issues were flagged up in the MOT before the recent one, suggesting they aren't regarded as failure or advisory in the most recent one. So I'm not sure whether the recent MOT was too lenient or the garage was too harsh. It could be the case where the dealer fixed the suspension to the standard that get the MOT passed, but it wasn't done properly.

Thanks a lot! I wish I could do it myself. I've read that step-by-step repair, amasing stuff. I don't understand how bad it can get if I don't replace the arms and links... does that affect the tracking? or handling? It feels some garage cherry-pick problems, and you are not there to see it yourself.

Three days after I picked up my 56-plate superb V6 automatic, I'm not sure whether it's a 'project' or a 'car'. Maybe I am slightly exaggerating, but I don't trust the dealer, so I had it checked in a VGA garage. In fact, on the same day of collection, driver-side window's regulator was gone (according to the garage). This morning, they produced a long list and a fat invoice. The window: 266 quid (I had cheaper quote somewhere else) brake pads: can't remember exactly how much, but looks more acceptable than the rest (worn thin -- which is understandable) front suspension: 2 drop links, 2 lower arms (shockers moving side to side -- how convincing is that?) All inclusive: 1181 quid I guess I'll start from the brake pads, and leave the rest for later, of course in a different garage. What would you do? Cheers!

I've got the car now. Overall it's smooth, quiet, robust. On A1, it feels that it's pulling to the right just slightly. It's got two different front tyres too. Should I change them and check alignment? Could its alignment cost more than cars with MacPherson?

which seems to endorse the robust chassis it's got. Yeah I must admit that it floats a bit, like bmw 730 at speed, no worse. Thanks!

I think your guess (drop link) is probably right, as in an earlier MOT, the report says 'Suspension arm has excessive play in a ball joint both upper'. Maybe another age-related issue? 2.5tdi is a very heavy car, perhaps its parts go quicker than other variants? I only got a chance to check the MOT history when I saw the plate (masked in the photos on autotrader). 2800 quid isn't a steal.

Saw the MOT history just now, the advisories: offside rear Brake pipe slightly corroded (3.6.B.2c) offside front Front constant velocity joint gaiter damaged, but preventing the ingress of dirt inner (2.5.C.1a) Are these common? Need replacing? Thanks!

Hello, I went to view a 06 superb 2.5tdi. The dealer told me that MOT was done but was asked to add a 'link' in order to pass it. I should have asked for clarification what 'the link' means. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is this a cause of concern? Thanks very much!
