DSG's appear immune from this issue but I wouldn't trust any manual gearbox 1.5tsi, it appears from the feedback on the forum it's such a random fault that it could take sometime to identify the problem.

Almost all of us reporting this problem seem to have a mid to late 2023 or 2024 1.5TSI manual Karoq, so this will be the evo2 engine, ie new version without the engine cover. So I think Bigjohn may be on to something linking the issue to the evo2 engine.

I have had a similar experience several times. Cutting the story short, I have noticed that it happens when slowing down or braking and the speed gets so low to drop the revs. below the normal 'tickover'. (normally you would feel the emgine labour before stalling , but it is very difficult to 'feel' that happening, probably because the roads are so crap!). Did it today turning into a car park and thats what I noticed. I too am 'old school', as we are not used to synchromesh gearboxes in first so tend to not drop gears down when it seems the engine doesnt like it. Well thats my theory for what it's worth. Might be useful to take notice when it happens and report it on here to see if anyone agrees. Skoda dealer will be a waste of time at this point I reckon!

yep, I think you are spot on. A bit like Ken2 I have tried to adjust my driving to move down through the gears anf keep the revs up. But slipped a couple of times today, slowing down in 4th I think at a roundabout, dipped the clutch to change to 2nd,  cut out and had to pop into neutral and press button to restart. I don’t think so much it is the slowing down in a high gear that causes it to cut out, but when you dip the clutch to change gear in those circumstances. If you have a look at the rev counter when you dip the clutch it drops significantly. Ie. Slowing down in 4th, revs down below 1000RPM, dip the clutch to change into 1st or 2nd, revs drop below 800 and it cuts out. In terms of demonstrating the issue to the dealers though it is just a shame it only does this intermittently. Ie today after it cut out I tried to replicate the same manoeuvre and gearing but didn’t get the same outcome (didn’t cut out).

    Hi chieflordy,

Are you getting anything done about it.

I am sorry to say but unless I can replicate the issue then I think my chances of success at the dealers are very low. If I have some time on my hands I might spend some time experimenting like the person did on the TROC forum I quoted on the first page. For now I have been making a conscious effort to change my driving and keep the revs up by changing down on the approach to hazards. Interested to hear how you get on later this month, I hope I am wrong and they take it seriously. I suspect it must be a software issue, ideally you want to be able to take a member of staff from the garage out with you, and be able to replicate the issue to them. Ie, certain gear, slow down on approach to hazard and get it to cut out on demand whilst the car is slowing but still moving. If I could do that I would be booking it in like a flash!

By way of an update for my issue, the car has now been given back to Skoda and I've got a brand new DSG version. I assume they will resale this to some other poor sod instead of keeping it off road.

I can bet my yearly wage there will be some sort of recall this year or next but if course according to skoda 'there is no fault'

I may be financially out of pocket but that's worth not having the fear of an accident everytime I come to a roundabout.

    Good luck all.

sounds like a good outcome, hopefully they gave you a good price for yours and a decent discount on the new DSG one so you are not too much out of pocket, regardless, as you say though safety comes first!

  5. Being in too high a gear on the approach to a hazard, be it a junction or roundabout is actually the opposite of engine braking, slowing down by using the gears would be engine braking. That said rather like Ken2 I am going to make a conscious effort to keep the revs higher and will report back in due course.

An interesting theory from the troc forum referred to earlier https://www.trocforums.co.uk/threads/engine-cuts-out-when-driving….3254/post-40535

That would explain why the problem doesnt affect DSG vehicles. They automatically shift down as you slow down and ultimately as you come to a stop, the clutch will disengage before the revs drop below any limit. Similarly, when starting off, the DSG will automatically slip the clutch to keep the revs up.

I am fairly certain it is related to this, issue occurs for me when slowing down to a near stop from a relatively high gear, ie in 4th or 5th and slowing down for a roundabout or lights. Revs are obviously low in 4th or 5th when slowing down to 10mph, when I dip the clutch to select 1st or 2nd revs drop below 800 and engine cuts out. Annoying thing is it doesn’t happen every time and is hard to replicate.

    Hi all,

I've paid a deposit on a 2022 1.0 SE L karoq which I'm going to collect on Saturday from an approved Skoda dealer, very excited!

Would really appreciate a checklist of any removable items I should check are still there. So far I have umbrella, ice scraper, and torch in boot. Is there anything else I should expect to find that might have got lost? Many thanks

I wouldn’t worry too much about those three things myself, however, alloy wheel locking nut- make sure that is there and for peace of mind I’d check it’s the right one.

@ken2  The issue is that 'They do not all do it',  only the ones that do do.

So no point going with the same old that Skoda Dealership Staff might spout 'They all do that', because if they do the DfT / DVSA better get VW Group doing a safety critical recall.

& resolve the fault as they had to with the 'Lack of torque recall'.

The other Dealership rubbish from some is 'Never heard of that before',  so be sure your issue is logged and with Skoda / VW UK, and with DVSA.

There are contacts for them when there are safety concerns.

Engine cutting out suddenly while still moving does sound like a serious safety defect by this definition. I’ll be interested to hear how you both get on with your local dealers and Skoda head office in particular.

Mine has exhibited this 'characteristic' right from day one.

It's had considerable input from the supplying main dealer for other mechanical issues, although nothing forthcoming regarding it's tendency to stall.

It certainly drives better on E5, although this did not improve it stalling sadly.

The older 1.4 TSi is a considerably better partner for the manual gearbox in my view.

I now regret not going for an Auto😒

yep, mines still the same. Like you regret not buying the DSG. I don’t have the time or will power to get involve with the dealers or Skoda HQ to sort it, looking at other forums it is a VW wide issue with this engine and the manual gear box. I was hoping the car would be a long term keeper but now will probably just hand back at the end of the PCP contract. All this said if anyone does raise it with Skoda and makes some progress I’d be very interested to know the outcome.

  10. PCP deposit contribution offers are also on factory orders, ie they still honour it when the car comes 6 months or whatever later.  Unless there is something specific about this particular offer, excluding factory offers, which I doubt.

    • Thanks 2
  11. I don’t think it is likely the deposit contribution will go up from that level, movement more likely down. Also you should be able to negotiate a dealer discount which is quite seperate from the VWFS deposit contribution. No exact science but towards the  the quarter or year end is usually a good time for that, with the, having sales targets to meet etc.

  12. I didn’t get any paperwork either with my either so called them to confirm. The lady on the phone took my reg and checked, yes, 3 years cover still including europe and she confirmed they don’t issue the plastic cards anymore.

Yes I am having the same issues. I have had a VW golf for the last 10 years with the start/stop facility and absolutely NO problems like this..... I am aware that the car should not be cutting out when in gear, when travelling or even when stopped at a junction when in gear. It is frightening when the car just loses power and cuts out. My new Skoda Karoq has done this from the first few days of me having it - less than a month and i feel i have been put in a dangerous position several times. The Karoq just switches off at junctions or when slowing down, no warning, radio continues to play but ignition is off and it asks you to restart it manually. I am trying to return the car as they seem incapable of identifying the problem.

I assume you must have a manual 1.5TSI like the rest of us? Keep us updated with how you get on please, I have had mine exactly a month from new as well now with exactly the same issue….

Hmm interesting - thank you. I’ll try changing fuel and see if it has any effect. I doubt I’ll get very far with Skoda as it’s hard to replicate.

Exactly my thoughts re taking it in to a Skoda dealer.
Re fuel when I first read the thread I got the impression a few people had solved their problem by changing fuel, but I reread and it is one person banging on about fuel repeating his comments.

The person with the really long post about the impact of engine revs was quite interesting, very thorough monitoring his revs with a dashcam to replicate the issue, like a scientific experiment! I might try his recommendations, he seemed to make some sense.

  15. I have had mine a month now from new (1.5TSI manual) and noticed something similiar maybe 2 or 3 times, just cut out at fairly low speed. Press the accelerator and nothing happens, have to restart by pressing the ignition button. Like you I have not been able to replicate the issue, seems to only happen at low speeds though, 10mph ish. Given the ignition doesn’t start when I press the accelerator I am not sure it is linked to the stop/start function.

We have a 2020 Sportline dsg that came with the awaful 19in Bridgestones on Vega rims. Within a month I fitted Michelin CrossClimate2s, completely changed the cars handling. Had them previously on a Subaru Forester and then  Freelander, never been disappointed. Got a decent deal through Camskill and at the time, as indeed now, Michelin were running a cashback offer and the £60 pretty much covered my tyreman’s fitting costs. I posted details of the deal under the tyre section although it does appear on the company’s site

Sorry, please can you point me in the direction of the current Michelin cash back offer please? I have had a search of their website and couldn’t see cash offer on tyres at present, thanks.

If you log onto the Skoda Connect website you can generate a 'Digital Certificate' for your car. This will detail its mileage records, service records, and warranty details. It also claims to list the standard and optional equipment fitted, but mine is not completely accurate.

    Chris

Good tip, thanks. Never realised this option existed.

  18. A couple of options as regards warranty date, you could just call a different dealer, ask them to confirm warranty date on computer system, they have no vested interest in giving you inaccurate information. Second, as no service book or stamps anymore you can ask any dealer to print out service history. On the first page almost the info at the top I recall the warranty expiry date was included.

As you can see below, you can still get these items new.

You should be able to order them from any VAG parts department by quoting the relevant OEM part number, eg. 6V6061162, 6V6017700, etc.
