Slight coolant loss / intake manifold
Just had MOT done on my octy vrs mk2 , non facelift. When up in the air, annoyingly they spotted drops of coolant that formed near or on the oil filter housing wasnt even dripping.. no engine splash guard. So they failed the cAr just for that, though my rear right caliper is binding and squeeling but that wasn't noticed. ( A job I'll do myself soon) So far I haven't noticed a dip in coolant levels, so it's really a misting of coolant underneath and minor that I can tell. I can't get under the car for a few days to look properly, though I don't know where to check in all fairness. In the summer driving to Poland, I got an engine warning light pop up on the dash, I had my scanner and it told me intake manifold control runners something or other, I cleared it and hasn't come back. There is since then a howling noise under acceleration especially when cold, so I suspect the gaskets on intake manifold are starting to go, do these also have coolant running through them? Turbo seems ok I don't think it's this. I could do two things, one is nothing, and buy / screw on a engine splash guard and keep close eye on coolant levels and wait for possible issue to worsen then take action.. or it might be fine like it is, but taking a chance. 2.go to the stealers and get system pressure tested, see where slight coolant leak is from and get them to fit a splash guard whilst it's there but £££ I'm sure. Any thoughts? What would you guys do? I plan on some summer trips and may be piece of mind is best but I don't want to fritter hundreds away at the stealers, I can fit a engine splash guard, radiator if needed, and small things , but replacing intake manifold is out of my league.

Torque for caliper bolts?
Reviving old topic, I'm going to attempt to remove these caliper bolts, part of replacing caliper, pads and discs. Bought an adjustable breaker bar,a shorter m14 bit and m12 bit incase.. I'm a little stumped, as I see it's a M14 spline bolt.. ok, which it was when I looked.at it today . But I look for a replacement stretch spline caliper bolt and I only see M12... Is it wrong or am I misunderstanding m14 bit fitting into m12? For example here it's m12 https://www.partshaus.co.uk/products/vw-audi-skoda-seat-socket-head-spline-bolt-m12-x1-n10451302 Thanks!

Octavia MK2 VRS rear quarter damage..
Thanks JR for the offer, you're around 2.5 hrs away from me, I just got back on a local trip from picking up a set of winter steels, 15inches, with reasonable tread for 50 euros. So I'm happy about that.. Update to this thread, my broker says they'll base value of write off on other cars for sale in area, ( 1 only in Belgium ) and what i paid , and expenses for oil cooler etc, hopefully if worst happens I'll get most of money back and possibly have some very nice refurbished Zenith 18s in the shed still..

Glad to hear you got it sorted, you beat the insurers on that one ! Guess you had the black leather heated seats etc? Sold now is she?

Yep forgot to add , tyre is rubbing.. I'm planning to get.some v cheap steelies with crap tyres , fit those before going to the repair garage, incase it wears tyre side out, my zenith 18s have new bridgestones , and refurbished to new couple months ago , fearing I won't see the car again I'm going to keep them for my next octy or sell to recoup some losses if worst happens and she's written off. Thx for the tip for the tyre

Agree with you, I'll focus mainly on the safety aspect and go from there on. I have no idea what a bumper bar looks like , are.we talking the crash bar that's non curved? Shipping anything outside UK. is a nightmare, tho I am popping through to UK in June with my polo, so who knows , I might be in touch with you

What was your car worth at time?! Not a VRS right ? Just for a wing they wrote it off? I'd have just bought one myself and fitted it. 😞 I cringed on mine when I saw damage , rear quarter is a classic write off area I've heard in the past ..

Uploaded 2 pics with wheel off and a vid, doesn't confirm much more, would it be safe to drive 3 miles to repair garage or should I get it towed? VID-20230423-WA0000.mp4

Octavia MK2 VRS rear quarter damage..
I'll be claiming through my policy, its third party ,( can't get fully comp in Belgium if a vehicle is a certain age ) but I opted for legal protection , so in the event of things like this happening I'll dispute a pay out to get the max value for the car.. let's hope. Just replaced bloody oil cooler for 1.3k at the stealers, garage I bought car from in Netherlands refunded parts at least. I've had couple write offs when I lived in UK, and one over here ( mum's) and it's pretty similar, they offer way below what it would cost to find a same model ,year, colour, one with service history etc. I'm also fearing it's 100% going to be written off, I'm gutted for that, and the end result.. Been under the car today with wheel off ( yes safely supported the car ) I can see the suspension strut has been slammed in slightly, for the rest, I have no idea. No fuels leaks tho @MicMac

Cheers for reply, I thought metalwork could be pulled out, are we talking welding pins and pulling out then removal pins/ sanding/ / paint / blend in? Bumper would be great if they can reshape .. save on costs. Wheel alignment is prio indeed, all this will be done through insurers, so I hope costs are low to avoid write off. Petrol leak.. unsure.. really hope not, it had been raining and may have pooled up in bumper a bit. It's rained hard today so I can't check, I'll take a closer look tomorrow hope nothings been pierced. I did notice rust remains on the ground, and dirt.

- Octavia MK2 VRS rear quarter damage..
Few days ago my neighbour didn't put her handbrake on , or engage first gear, it rolled down our road and slammed into my Octy MK2 VRS, I just put on the road 1month ago. I'm gutted and worried about it being a write off, seeing it's 17 yrs old and done 220k km . Speed impact about 10-15 mph I guess. Pushed my car onto pavement with the force. Damage as.far as I can see being total amateur: Rear quarter panel Bumper / metal bumper frame Hub/ axle The rear wheel is not where it should be, misaligned , kind of like this angle : \ so that has beared the brunt too. Taking to repair garage soon locally, to assess damage , I fear the worst knowing in last how easy they are to write a car off. Your thoughts on cost/ opinions what's damage v appreciated . Thanks Other car damage included incase we have some experts here who want to see that too. - Octavia MK2 VRS rear quarter damage..
