  1. I’ve just checked under the bonnet after a very stop start trip around town and everything is as clean as a whistle that I can see . Still has the smell but I’m hoping that will fade eventually! Car is running better .
  2. Update : Move had a new valve cover , injector washers/ring/njector valves , new leak off pipe and x4 injectors . A lot of money ! Presumably the smell of fuel will subside as any residual fuel burns off from the repairs ?
  3. More info for you all . I had an oil change done a few weeks back and they said you have a leak but we can’t tell where from so you need a steam clean .Unfortunately, nobody in my area does it so I found someone near my work , which is a 45-60 minute drive away from home . I got that done , finally got my car looked at again only to be told that it needs another steam clean ! Going round in circles . So , I had to drive it to work last night for my shift , staying over , I’m now waiting to take it to the same cleaner as before , then a slow journey back home to drop off outside the garage again !
  4. Hi , There is no pooling or puddles of anything on the floor . There is spray across the engine and pipes by the top of the cover and adjacent to the brake fluid reservoir and coolant expansion tank . I have been drinking it for a while with a smell I thought was maybe the clutch plate ! But it is this leak .
  5. Hi. I have a leak of diesel or oil from my Octavia 1.6 diesel engine and I am taking it to get steam cleaned etc today before driving down to a garage for them to check the leak . Is it ok for me to continue to drive my car around ? I have been for quite a while with this burning smell, the garage has said it should be fine but I just wanted some other advice. No warning lights come on and the car runs ok . Thank you.
  6. Good point - I think I may have had my backpack on the front passenger seat on the way in……
  7. Good afternoon. On the way to work the other morning, the warning sign for this flashed up on the dashboard for about half a second then went off again. It has not happened since. I was driving on a motorway at the time, so a flat road surface. Nothing has come on since . Should I get this checked out or was it perhaps just “ one of those things “ ? Thank you.
  8. Can't remember ! I thought it was on official Skoda info but not really sure. I will go with the 120k miles (give or take ) > Thanks for your reply.
  9. I had my timing belt replaced from new at 86000 miles or so and planned to follow this up with the recommended four-year/40000 miles replacement interval. However, when I took the car in to Halfords for the replacement the garage boss said he wouldn't do it as it would have plenty of miles left in it and he didn't want me wasting hundreds of pounds. I've since read that they are good for 140000 km or so - which is 86000 ! Do you agree with this ? I have a 2016 Octavia Estate and do about 20000 miles a year. I'm currently on 127800 miles. Thank you.
  10. I'm having issues with the rear washer - the nozzle is at the top of the hatchback, not on the wiper arm. It gets a very small trickle and then stops completely - the motor is whirring away with no problems. Am I able to remove the plastic cover on the upper inside of the hatchback to see if the nozzle and tube are ok ? Is it any easy job ? I'm not the best at that sort of thing! Cheers.
  11. Good afternoon all. For a while now , my lights do not come on when I remotely unlock the car. They don't come on when I open the doors either. I have to press the individual light switches to get them to work. Is this a fuse issue, or a wiring/sensor issue ? Thank you.
  12. Dear all , The rear windscreen washer nozzle seems to be blocked as there is a very small trickle, if any , coming out of the nozzle. The pump is working full pelt so that's not an issue. Is it easy to access ? Do I need to remove the rear top brake light cover and hatch plastic cover to access it ? Duffers guide required please ! Thank you.
  13. Cheers for that , I’ll do that 👍
  14. Hello . I have a query regarding my 2016 Octavia Estate. It has come up with oil change service 700 miles and Inspection in 10000 miles or 500 days … Should I book in for the oil change or wait ? I am due my MOT in the next month and wondered if I should book the two together ? I had a full service done on the 21/10/20 and then had the fuel filter , pollen filter and diesel system cleaner on the 01/12/20 …. I’ve read elsewhere that these intervals might be due to the garage ( Halfords ) incorrectly setting the system ? Any advice greatly received!
  15. I have a 2016 Octavia Estate which has developed a loud " knocking" sound when going over any bumps in the road/man hole covers etc . On a clear , smooth road there is no issue. I have taken everything out the back of the car to make sure it's not that, I recently had it MOT and full service which had no issues at all. I have had it back up on jacks and inspected and the garage said there is nothing loose or obviously causing any issues. I have looked at the underside myself - part of the plastic underneath which covers all the exhaust etc seems to "rattle" and seems to have loads of grave/chippings inside it, but nothing heavy that would make the clonking/knocking sound..... Any ideas ? Thanks.
