Well turns out the supplier have the wrong actuator listed for my car. The rod is slightly longer than the correct one. Thank goodness I didn't leave it with the first garage or they'd have never have found the problem. Thankfully the VAG specialist came across the same problem recently, luckily for me. TPS are refunding the local garage and they say they'll refund me when they get it but of course he says they're never quick! Will see how many times I have to chase it. Still not happy about the fuel pump and have written to CAB. Interestingly I was telling a neighbour about it and he'd had the same issue with the local garage doing work that didn't fix the problem and he also ended up going to a VAG specialist. Think this guys sharp practice needs stopping. He seems very happy to take on jobs he's not able to diagnose correctly with the justification that you asked him to do it!

Local garage can't sort it! Rang VAG specialist and he reckons they've not installed the turbobooster actuator properly. Am taking it to him in the morning so hopefully he'll fix it. Advised the local garage that'll I'll expect them to pay whatever the VAG charges to fix it but they're saying that's not how it works. He says they got the car working again and it's not their fault if they weren't advised by VW parts that they wouldn't be able to reset the values. Unbelievable.

Spoke too soon. Car really sluggish. Couldn't get the car to do over 60 mph so taking it back in the morning and the engine management light is on! Fed up.

Ended up leaving it with the local garage after speaking with the VAG and he explained to me that diagnostics are only a guide not a definitive answer and I'm very happy to say it's now fixed. Turned out to be the turbocharger actuator. Nothing wrong with the pump. Annoyed that they didn't run a diagnostic before replacing the pump but have kept the old one and will try and recoup some of the money by selling it on ebay. At least he didn't charge me for all the hours he spent trying to find the real fault so didn't feel quite so aggrieved at having to pay out £463.

Thanks for the suggestion. Going to ring a VAG garage in the morning before they do any further work on the car. Really doubting that they know what they're doing especially after the MAP error.

Just heard from the garage and it's now not a MAP fault so they've sent the part back and have ordered a repair kit for £131+vat. Feel like I'm being taken for a ride. Asked why they didn't do a diagnostic before they started and he says it's because I booked it in for a fuel pump! Read the RAC report and they say at the bottom that the diagnosis requires confirmation from a qualified technician. Wouldn't any decent garage check before starting work?

Thanks for your replies. Booked it into my local garage who quoted £232 to supply and fit. When I booked it in the garage owner went on about the RAC getting it wrong a lot of the time but told him what he'd done so he agreed to order the pump. They've just rang and said they've fitted the new pump but it wasn't that, have now run a diagnostic and a MAP error has come up so he's ordered that £49! He'll ring me when it's fitted. I've attached the RAC diagnostic can someone please advise me as I know so little about cars. Shouldn't the garage have run a diagnostic first before fitting the new one? Also wondering if he's ordered the correct pump as it seems cheap for an original part at £138+vat.

Thanks for the replies. Have seen one on eBay for £145. Says it's a genuine part. The company has good reviews. Would you buy that and get a garage to fit it?

Any idea how much for a new high pressure fuel pump? Car broke down today and RAC say it's the fuel pump.

Rang Kwik Fit and of course they don't use OEM filters so thinking about cancelling with them after what Lee's commented. Awaiting call back from Skoda garage to see if they'll price match.
