  1. Thanks but it's probably just six months since I bought it. I only had the problem twice so it's not fair to say it had the problem wjmhen I bought it. But hey, thanks for looking out for me! My brother in law should be servicing it next weekend, if he has time.
  2. I think so. He also has a friend who is a VAG specialist so I'll see if he can run it by him.👍
  3. Well I've only had it 5 months but the service light has just come on. I have arranged for it to be serviced in a couple of weeks by my brother in law, who is a mechanic. Do you think it needs the gearbox servicing? Incidentally it just did it again tonight when leaving the house. Went from D into R and was revving like in neutral. Killed the power and restarted and it was fine.
  4. Today on the way back from the shops my DSG stuck in gear. I think it was third but there was no D3 showing on the multifunction display. It was like having it in tiptronic mode (and possibly it was by accident) so I pulled over as soon as I could. Turned the ignition off and on again and it was fine. Gave me a bit of a fright. It's a 59 reg, so 9 years old and long out of warranty. 109k miles and due a service.
  5. Ha ha, I like that, Robin. A classy cruiser! I'll keep it that way.
  6. What does everyone think to these VRS Grill stripes? I haven't actually done it, these are photoshopped, but I saw a kit of vinlyl tapes on eBay for £6 and thought I might add them to brighten up the old girl (or old grill!). I'm about 70:30 in favour of doing it at the moment. I don't think I'll get a VRS badge.
  7. Hello all, I'm back, and very happy to be back too. Back in 2017 I bought a 54 reg Mk I Superb 1.9TDI and was very happy with it. It had seen some action and had a few faults (some, such as the water ingress, I fixed). Then in January 2018 it was sadly written off following an accident Since then I have been through a couple of private cars and a company car, but now having changed jobs again I decided to treat myself to a Superb MK2. I picked it up on Wednesday and I'm very pleased with it. It's the 2.0 CR TDI 170 version. DSG. 2009 with 99,900 miles currently. I haven't found anything wrong with it and will be happy for it to stay that way.
  8. Hey, I might be back again next week. Going to see a Superb MK2 tomorrow. It looks great. I'm going to see what to look out for now...
  9. The brakes and rear light cluster are for sale in the classifieds section. A real bargain if you have a Superb I.
  10. It's a manual , 2.4 D5, 2007, MK 2. It has a few problems to sort out such as a new battery and a tyre, both being sorted in the morning; but I like a project. ...... Update: three months later the water pump seized, the cam belt shredded and the engine was destroyed. Along with the contents of the radiator the best part of £2500 went flowing down the drain. ☹️ Sad smiley.
  11. Hi All. I went to look at a Superb II estate thinking it would be lovely. 5 years old, 100k miles and it looked like it had never had a sevice. I saw an Octavia estate, also in poor condition but next to it was (sorry about this) a Volvo V70 and I fell in love. So it really is goodbye. Volvoforums.org.uk is not a patch on Briskoda. Not mobile friendly for a start but I'm prepared to take a gamble. I have some old brake parts which I will list in here I think. Didn't get round to fitting them...
  12. After an enjoyable 18 months membership of Briskoda and an even more enjoyable ownership of my 2004 Superb I 1.9 TDI Comfort (Stanislav), I have to say goodbye. Last weekend I was involved in an accident and unfortunately Stanislav was written off. The insurance paid me a fair amount but I doubt it will be hard find such a good car with the money. I would like say thanks to everyone who contributed to my posts and whose excellent material I used to improve the car, particularly the authors of the water ingress solution which I followed to the letter. I'm hoping to get another Superb. If I'm very lucky I might be getting a Superb II I have seen advertised locally, then I will be back with a Hello message!
  13. I used the Granville kit. It came with various abrasives and polishing solutions. Finally you give it a wipe with a cloth coated in a UV protective solution but unfortunately it didn't work and they clouded up again. I also read you can spray clear cote paint on them to give a permanent UV protection. Might give that a try in the Sumner!
  14. I have the same problem on my Superb 1 1.9TDI. I have given the catch a good clean and even disconnected the microswitch at a connector and shorted the two poles for at least a minute but to no avail. Does it have to be reset by VCDS? I wouldn't have thought so.
  15. I've fitted them and they seem fine. The wheels / tyres fit the arches fine, driving seems the same (although one wheel needs balancing). The main thing is that the tyres and the rims are in much better condition and I can just tell they're going to hold their pressure better. I've put the old wheels (3U0601025A) and tyres on eBay. If anyone wants them, have a look, just search by 202026712589. If you mention Briskoda I'll knock a bit off
  16. Well, thanks to the advice of someone else on here (whose name I have forgotten sorry) I have looked at this very useful website willitfit.com and it looks promising: http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php?width=205&aspect=55&diameter=16&wheelwidth=7&offset=45&width2=225&aspect2=50&wheel_size=17&wheel_width=7-5&offset2=45 Will definitely try them on at the weekend.
  17. Hi guys, I am after some advice from someone with some experience in wheels and tyres. I have a 2004 Superb I, 1.9TDI 130. I love the car but the alloy wheels are corroded and the rims leak out meaning I am having top them up every couple of weeks. It is inconvenient and presumably dangerous. I considered having them refurbished and then the opportunity to get some newer ones at a good price came along. I got them yesterday and now that I have seen them properly I’m not sure I should use them. My current wheels are 16 inch five spoke standard-looking wheels for that year. Not sure exactly what they are. See my pictures, attached. The new ones are Audi 17 inch wheels from an A4 B8 (2008). The part number on the back is 8K0 601 025 B. My old tyres are 205/55R16. New ones are 225/50R17 (Winter). So the width is greater, and the overall diameter of the wheel and tyre is greater. The centre bore is 66.5mm but my old ones are 57.1 so I have ordered some spigot rings. I took a picture of them side by side. There is a difference but it’s not too much. I cleaned them and inspected them last night. The tyres are better than my old tyres and have more tread. The wheels are in better condition too, no corrosion and just a little kerb damage on two. I fitted one to the front passenger side to look at how it fits. I took a picture of it with the old one on the back to compare. It looks good, but more importantly it will probably hold the pressure better. I intend to put all four on this weekend when the spigot rings arrive. Then I will check them for clearance, lock to lock etc, and give it a test drive. Reading a few forums put a few doubts in my mind though. The wheels and tyres will be heavier than the old ones. Will this put my engine under excessive load? The car is is going to turn 140k miles this week and I don’t want this to kill it off. Also I read that you should declare it to your insurance. Will this increase my premium? Does everyone declare it? I certainly didn’t declare my old wheels when I bought the car. Issues with the speedo I can understand but I understand it will work to my safety. It is an old car, I only need to run it another 12 months and I just want to improve my tyre pressures. Do you think I’m doing the right thing? Thanks, Mike
  18. What I use my Superb 1 for? Going to the tip, it's massive!
  19. Hi guys Just thought I would share this nice advert for the 'new' Superb from 2002. I have never seen that footrest before! I'll have to check for that in the morning. Suppose it will be on the passenger's side. Mine is the Comfort model. Mike
  20. Hi Aaron, I pass through Shipley each day and I have a few friends there. If you DM me I'll ask around. Interesting that you had the number plate showing on Instagram. I don't have mine but wasn't sure why you didn't.
  21. All sorted. I managed to haggle the locksmith down to £60 for doing the driver's door (rather than the boot). Then I somehow disabled the alarm by disconnecting it and reconnecting it when the siren sounded with the battery disconnected :nerd: . Then I hopped into the back, opened the arm rest and found to my slight horror that they was a panel on the back of the ski sack. However, I dismantled the frame around the sack to expose a spring and latch mechanism at the top of the aperture. I jiggled that around and the back flopped down. Cut a slit in the sack to get my arm in and eventually found the key, thank God. All in all could have been much worse. Morals of this story: - always put your keys in your back pocket when loading the boot, - get a spare cut (the locksmith said he could do this) - don't rush into the first expensive option Thanks all for your input.
  22. Locksmith has opened driver's door ???? Now how to get into boot? Ski sack is my first choice.
