Oh no what’s the curse!? Come to think of it my 2005 Skoda Fabia had working air con for 20 years without any need for the system to be regassed. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see if the air con stops working or not.

They couldn’t find a leak. I’m thinking it has just leaked over time maybe? The car wasn’t really serviced in 10 years, just had oil changes. Do you think that’s at all possible? Will have a look to see if there is any dye anywhere after a few runs of the AC.

good news it was just completely low on gas. so only £100 to sort out. phew!! thanks for everyone's help!

Hello again, Here is some footage of what I think is the compressor. Screw looks a bit rusted but nothing felt loose and seems to be spinning fine. Will get the refrigerant pressure checked as next step. @Warrior193 do you remember I had that fuel rail leak. I imagine petrol would have split over the compressor. Could the fuel leak have done any damage to the compressor? And also could the mechanic have caused any damage to the compressor or the lines during the fuel rail repair do you think? HI there, Bought this car second hand a few months ago and just noticed the air con isn't really working. Skoda Octavia 1.2 TSI MK3 2016 reg The light goes on for the AC but the temperature of the air coming out doesn't change. I'm going to try resetting the climate flaps which I've seen online. I'm guessing that might not work so does anyone know of a troubleshooting guide so I can try and work out where the issue is. Was going to try and buy one of those refrigerant canisters to see if that fixes it. Is there anything else I can try and listen out for or look at in the engine bay to try and isolate the problem? Plenty of air blowing out but it' snot cold at all. Thanks, James

@Warrior193 so mechanic got to the fuel rail and yes one bolt sheared off and two loose with some seals damaged. He has never heard of it before and his VW parts seller has never heard of it BUT then they have this whole repair kit on the shelf which suggests (like you are well aware) that it's a known problem. Unfortunately he said it was really difficult to get to and will have to charge 3 hours Labour in total. ☹️ Will try the warranty though although they might say normal wear and tear. Going to try and complain to VW group given the potential risk of fire - did you report yours to anyone? Not that it would probably do anything! I'm trying to find the US recall that i keep see being mentioned about this issue. Can only find something related to VW Jettas. EDIT. I found it: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2020/RCRIT-20V648-7026.pdf All skoda jettas (octavias basically) with a 1.4 TSI engine made between 2016 and 2018 all recalled. Unbelievable!!

@ords good point. Is that something else to worry about? Or maybe it wasn't flooded and it just wouldn't start because of the fuel leak? RAC man got it started by holding down accelerator whilst turning on ignition

yes i was going to come back to you thanks for asking. He got the engine started by holding down the accelerator (i think my friend had flooded the engine as well as the underlying leak). Maybe he caused the leak by stressing the engine or maybe it was already there... anyway I've forgiven him... 😅 So we got the engine running but we couldn't see a leak but there as clear smell of fresh petrol. nothing coming from the rails or the fuel line. He presumed O ring seal failure. In the garage now, hoping it's a simple as yours with just a seal replacement and tightening of bolts. Annoyingly garage won't deal with warranty companies but I might just take the hit. Will let you know what the garage says. Glad to hear you've had no further problems. Like I said we only got the car 10 days ago so it feels really worrying that this might suggest loads of further problems but it seems like it could just be a coincidence??

Just noticed a small amount of petrol pooled on the bottom panel underneath the engine block. I wonder if that makes flooding more likely or another issue… Going to try this clearing mode soon by pumping the accelerator but slightly terrified about causing more damage??

There is some petrol collecting on the bottom panel underneath the engine but not dripping down front of engine. Thank you by the way!!

Hi everyone! Got a second hand Octavia 1.4 TSI 2 weeks ago mk3. All been working fine and now won’t start with yellow epc light. I don’t know if this is relevant: My friend moved the car last night reversing up a hill slightly and maybe over revving with a very strong lasting smell of petrol. Now I’ve come to start the car this morning and the starter motor kicks in sort of sounds ok and then all goes quiet. We’ve tried recharging the battery but that hasn’t worked. Still a strong smell of petrol. Maybe the engine is flooded. I’ve tried holding the accelerator down but I’m not sure if should do that while I’m trying to start the car or just with the ignition on. Any other ideas from the wonderful people here. RAC can’t come for 4 hours 😢

Yes she likes the authenticity of using the CD and seeing the front cover etc. and to be honest so do I. An endless streaming option can feel a bit less personal sometimes. But if it’s not possible then SD card with folders might be nice

Yes I think you’re right. I will try that first. Out of interest if I did want to hypothetically get an £40 oem glovebox thing with a cd changer second hand from eBay… Is it just swap it in and swap it out or are there way more steps and cost than that.

Just bought a skoda octavia 2016 reg 1.4 TSI. It's so great and has a hilarious number of upgrades compared to my last car: a 2005 skoda fabia with manual windows, no central locking and a boot lever in the driver side door. Now I get to open the boot AT THE BOOT!! My wife would really like a CD player but it just has an SD card slot in the glove box. I can see some multimedia head units on ebay with a CD player for £40. Is it that simple to just change them over once I've bought one of those "release tools". I think I currently have a Skoda Columbus MIB1 but I don't feel the need to change the screen bit. Is it easy to just change the bit with the SD card i.e. one in and one out or is it way more complicated than that? Thank you for any advice. (Was also thinking about adding in cruise control at some point but maybe I'll get the CD bit sorted first.)
