  1. My long term readings reset themselves after about 4k miles. Had similar issues with previous Octy doing resets periodically at random.
  2. Yes, I think it was the convenience opening. (Made sure it was disabled it on the day I bought the Superb).
  3. Had this issue when my previous car was new (Octy 3). I disabled the auto window down function and never had the problem again.
  4. When I bought mine the dealer said I wouldn't hear from him for months i.e. a couple of weeks off the delivery date. Suggest you call him and find out the anticipated delivery date. I don't know what the current build times are.
  5. Does anyone else have a problem with the volume of Traffic Programmes? I generally listen to the radio with the volume set at around 45% and when the Traffic programme kicks in the volume is commensurae with the radio volume. When listening to BBC podcasts on a SD card I have to turn the volume up to about 80%. When I am listening to a podcast and the Traffic programme kicks in it nearly blows my head off and there is a scramble to turn the volume down. Is there a way on the current Columbus to set the TP broadcasts to a preset volume? My downloaded version of the manual (Superb anglicky 11.2016) indicates that there is a specific setting for this, unfortunately the hard copy manual (also Superb anglicky 11.2016 but differnet to the downloaded version?!) that came with the car (delivered 1/3/17) gives no advice on volume control. There is an option to set the volume of 'announcements' but this doesn't help (not sure what 'announcements' are as apart from the sat nav the car doesn't talk to me?). Dealer couldn't help. Any ideas?
  6. After 1 month and 2263 miles the ave mpg is 62.8 on the computer and 58.0 from my calc. This is generally 40-50mph A-roads with 1 week of 1 in 3 and 1 in 4 hills in the Yorkshire Moors. This is only 4mpg less than my 1.6 Octavia after 100,000 miles so very impressed so far.
  7. After much searching (to the point where I was measuring the base diameters of cups in shops) I found a cup that fits perfectly. Comfortable fit in the central holder but not loose enough that it will fall over when knocked. Bonus was they were only £1 each in Poundland - available in red, black and mauve. Stickers came off easily once I got home. Time will tell as to how good they are but as I only want them for occaisional use they should be fine.
  8. I ordered the triangle from skodaparts but it is way too big to fit the recess designed for it in the Superb. It is part no. GGA093001A where as the one on the Superskoda site is part no. GGA700001A which I am guessing is the right part. Can't believe that Skoda produce two different triangles! Anyone want to buy a new triangle part no. GGA093001A?
  9. I agree that it would look better without the rear wiper but I do use it frequently and don't believe in form over function. The saloon car drivers l know drive Audi's and BMW's and miss not having the option/benefit of the rear wiper.
  10. Two photos of mine after 1000 miles and needing a wash. The business grey hides the dirt well and don't feel the need to fit mud flaps.
  11. I have now driven 1500 miles and most of the time (dry or wet roads) I don't have a problem with them. I had to deal with mud on a hill last week and they were appalling so when they are due for replacement I will be going for Cross Climates.
  12. I have been looking for a boxed warning triangle that will fit in the recess on my S3 MY17. Having trawlled the Internet and found that some suppliers change the size of the box I thought I would cut to the chase and order one direct from Skoda. They have an accessories page http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/accessories-and-merchandise but there are no options to view or buy anything!!!??? It would be good if their site caught up with the 21st century.
  13. Filled up for the second time yesterday and on the first tank of Shell V-Power the mpg was 62.8 from the computer and 57.1 from my calc. This is much better than I was expecting and a maximum trip average of 72. My journeys are typically 45 mile commutes each way. These figures are only a few mpg less than my 1.6 Mk2 Octy. When run in and a slightly heavier foot there should still not be too much difference with the bigger engine and car. And here was me thinking the Euro 6 engine was going to give poor mpg....
  14. I picked mine up with Lifeshine last week and the finish is excellent - too early to say how long it lasts. It came with a whole suitcase of Autoglym products so I won't be buying anything else for quite some time. My last car, from the same dealer, had Diamondbrite applied and I was very pleased with that over the 5 years I had the car. BTW the Autogylm suitcase fits perfectly in the left hand cubby of the boot.
  15. I picked up my Superb SEL hatch last week and so far have been very pleased. The only issue I have is that there is no net on the underside of the parcel shelf. I found this to be a very useful feature on the Octavia and am now missing it. The net is clearly shown in a photo in the brochure and is not part of the separately supplied net pack. Do other SEL / L&K owners have this net (I assume it is not fitted for S and SE models as they are not listed as having the net programme)?
  16. Picked up my SEL yesterday and it came with Pirelli Cintauro P7 which was a relief. I downgraded to 17" wheels to deal with the roads around here and will probably change to Michelin Cross Climates in due course.
  17. I see that there is an option to control the auto stop/start function which I note some people find annoying.
  18. I can recommend nanoCAD and have used it for a few years now. It is very similar to AutoCAD (not quite as refined) and free for both personal and commercial use. You need to give your email address to receive the registration code but it does not trigger any spam.
  19. I did the same thing on perforated black leather seats a few years ago. The white cream looked horendous in all the black leather perforations at first but soon worn in and wasn't noticeable after a while. Luckily I tried it on the driver's seat so it had a lot more wear than the others. I am good at reading instructions and don't recollect any warnings about not using it on perforated leather.
  20. Having seen a bumper protector on a friends AMG Mercedes which I thought was a great idea I have bought one for the new car. This was apparently a Mercedes option but I had to buy a third party one http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dog_cages_carriers/car_bed/luggage_area_mats/105617 Working in the construction industry but office based I need to sit on the boot lip to change shoes/ boots (too old to hobble around on one leg) - this time of year I can end up with wet bum, legs and dirty trousers off the back of the car but this device concertinas up and just tucks inside the boot.
  21. I ordered mine on 20 November and specified a 17 plate as a mid February 66 plate will be worth less than a 17 plate. I haven't had any update from the dealer to confirm delivery (hopefully it will be before 1 April otherwise it will fall into the higher tax banding).
  22. The Mk3 I test drove had done 1600 miles so should have loosened up a bit. If you like the Mk3 and and want the 1.6 I'd recommend that if the first 1.6 test drive doesn't give you the performance you expect then go for a second test drive in a different car. On paper the Mk3 should be very similar as the Mk2 but it certainly didn't feel that way.
  23. After 5 years and 100,000 miles it is time to change the faithful 1.6TDI Octy for something new. I thought that it would be useful to give a few facts and figures of my experience. Running In I tend to trust Honest John for advise and as such used his advice for running-in as there seems to be little advice on the Internet about running-in diesels. http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/running-in-a-diesel/ Leave factory fill of oil for the first year or 10,000 miles. For the first 1,000 miles do not exceed 3,000rpm, but make sure you reach 3,000rpm regularly. If running in on a motorway, regularly vary the revs. So (in mph) cruise at 70 for 15 minutes, cruise at 80 for 15 minutes, cruise at 75 for 15 minutes, cruise at 60 for 15 minutes, cruise at 90 for 15 minutes, etc. For the next 1,000 miles (to 2,000 miles) do not exceed 3,500rpm, but make sure you reach 3,500rpm regularly. For the next 1,000 miles (to 3,000 miles) do not exceed 4,000rpm, but make sure you reach 4,000rpm regularly. For the next 1,000 miles (to 4,000 miles) do not exceed 4,500rpm, but make sure you reach 4,500rpm at least a couple of times a week. After that, no limit, but make sure you continue to hit 4,500rpm through the gears several times a week. The benefit of this is it helps to self clean the injectors, it blows any accumulated soot out of the exhaust system and it helps to free off the piston rings, making the engine more efficient and less likely to use engine oil. Other Tips when Driving I do not hold the steering on hard lock as I understand that this is bad for the hydraulics. If I want a tight turning circle I find hard lock and then turn the steering wheel back slightly so that the hydraulics are not pushing against the end stop. If cruising at speed (50mph plus) and I need to stop I will let the engine idle for approx 2 minutes before turning off the engine to allow the turbo to cool. Tyres The car was supplied with Bridgestone Turanza FR300 205/55 R16 91V. The fronts lasted 27,00 miles before replacing and at this point all four tyres were replaced with Bridgestone A001 All Seasons. The front A001 tyres were replaced after them doing 48,000 miles. The rear A001 tyres have never been replaced i.e. they have now done 75,000 miles. All four tyres still have 4mm of tread left. Fuel Consumption For approximately 95% of the last 100,000 miles I have run on Shell V-Power where it has been available. If not available I have used branded diesel and only very occasionally used Supermarket diesel. I make a note of my mileage on a full tank to full tank basis and have kept records of the consumption on this basis. I have also kept a note of the consumption recorded by the maxidot (which is based on the last 999 miles). A comparison of mpg, fill-to-fill and indicated by the maxidot is indicated on the attached graph. It seems that the winter/ summer temperatures / humidity? seem to be biggest factor on mpg. Repairs and Maintenance Although my mileage is suitable for variable servicing, I believe in at least chaining the oil every 10,000 miles particularly as the plan was always to keep the car for 4-5 years. The Octy has been serviced by the main Skoda dealer in Ipswich who I have found to be very good. Apart from brake pads nothing else has needed replacing. The day light running light bulbs failed and were replaced under warranty. Next Steps In October I test drove the current 1.6 Octy with the aim of buying it that afternoon. Unfortunately I found it to be underpowered. In addition to this I felt that Skoda had cheapened it’s construction and made it relatively more expensive. My wife found that the central arm rest was obstructive and couldn’t get comfy. I thought I would like the plain dash but it was too austere even for my taste. After returning the Octy we had a look round the showroom and for another £3-4k found that we could get a Superb SEL. After my experience with 1.6 in the Octy I test drove a 2.0 TDI 150 Superb Sportline and found the performance matching what I was looking for. I have one of these on order and will PX the Octy.
  24. In my experience the tyres that come with a new car wear out quickly (so they can be replaced with decent tyres?) My Octy lasted 25000 miles on front tyres on the original Bridgestones.I replaced all 4 for Bridgestone A001 all season tyres. The front were replaced after doing 50000 miles. It still has the original A001 tyres on it which have now done 75000 miles and have 4mm left. Hopefully the Superb will have a similar wear.
  25. I had a Kia Sportage Mk2 a few years ago and this had simple flappy rubber inserts built into the centre console cup holders which did a great job of holding bottles. Still waiting for the Superb to turn up but my current Octavia's cup holders are not as good as the old Kia's. Pic here; http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/KIA-SPORTAGE-2005-2010-CENTRE-CONSOLE-CUP-HOLDER-84626-1F500-/201736016404?hash=item2ef8675214:g:Zv4AAOSwQupXVATj
