  1. No, but I've used the same voice forever (didn't even realise it could be changed!) and it didn't always do this
  2. Recently when using navigation with android auto it is missing the first word or two from instructions so it says 'turn right' instead of 'after 200 metres turn right'. When you get close to the junction, at the point where it would normally just say 'turn right', it doesn't say anything. On roundabouts it's almost unusable as the instructions are so short and so late that I've gone past the turning. I can understand how this could happen with bluetooth but this is a wired connection via usb directly in to the HU with no bluetooth running. Using navigation on the phone itself, not connected to the HU, it's fine and every word is spoken. The issue is not specific to any geographical place. It's happening everywhere Anyone else had this and knows the reason or better still has a solution?
  3. I've posted something similar in a more appropriate forum. Anyone know how I delete my post from here? Or can someone do it for me?
  4. I've replaced my broken columbus with an Xtrons HU in a skoda superb II (2012) but recently it seems to drain the battery too quickly when the car is locked. So I'm looking at getting a kenwood DMX5020DABS (assuming that doesn't drain the battery as well!) The Kenwood will take a reversing camera but does anyone know if it will use the steering wheel position to show moving, curving guidelines like the Xtrons does?I find that feature so useful but can't seem to find out if the kenwood can do it and all the photos just show straight lines. I'm really only interested in getting a decent FM radio that will track the radio 4 frequency changes as I drive through the UK, listening to mp3 music and using the reversing camera but hands free phone is very handy as well. So if anyone has any suggestions as to alternative aftermarket head units (that won't drain the battery or my bank account!) please let me know. I have a slight preference to physical buttons as they're easier to find and activate whilst driving than touch screen but it's not critical. PS At the moment I've fitted a relay to completely isolate the Xtrons HU when the ignition is off. This no longer drains the battery but obviously it loses all the radio presets.

  6. Thank you for checking, Yes,on row 153 of Mapco's compatibility list it does say 'Construction year to: 2009/05' but in the next column it says 07/2008 - 05/2015. Agreed it's confusing. I think that must be for the saloon superb though as on row 163, it explicitly mentions the estate, like mine. This time it doesn't mention construction year and just says it's for 10/2009 - 05/2015. - my estate is November 2012. It's looking like this is the correct part but if anyone else can confirm I'd be grateful - or even explain why asking about my VIN made the sales person claim it wasn't right. It is even more confusing as, for example, the rear anti roll bar links listed for my car (part of the set that I ordered) show the same OEM part number but some are 96mm long and some are 95mm long, depending upon manufacturer. Even the ones they suggested as a replacement for the 'wrong' part that I ordered are the same size as the ones I ordered and the same OEM part number!
  7. Hi all, I've just ordered Mapco Link set code 53742/2 link to item on Mapco site containing a couple of rear wishbones , the link rods and bolts etc. I ordered it from buycarparts (Autodoc). Autodoc's website, and also Mapco's site says that this part fits a SKODA SUPERB II Estate (3T5) 2.0 TDI 10/2009 - 05/2015 125KW (170HP) 1968 cc CBBB, CFGB 8004-AIQ. That's my car, a 2012 superb II estate 3T5, 2.0 TDI, 170 bhp with transmission code CFGB. However just to be sure I sent buycarparts my VIN and they emailed back to say that it isn't compatible with my car. Now I don't know what to believe. Do I belive Mapco (and buy car parts) whose listing of the item says it does fit or do I believe the email from somebody at buycarparts who thinks my VIN prevents it fitting? Does anyone know if this is the correct part as I don't really want to pay to return it if it is correct after all? To be honest, it fits so may Skoda and VW cars that I cannot see any reason that it won't fit mine. I can't really see why a big chunk of metal holding the wheel on is affected too much by any subtle optional equipment that might be specific to my car. Can anyone help please?
  8. After having two columbus sets die on me I now have an xtrons android after market head unit in my 2012 superb. To make the navigation work I am using a cheap USB 4G / wifi router like the one in the photo. The HU connects over wifi and uses this connection to do searches, download traffic info, maps etc. This generally works OK but it does not seem to pick up a very good 4G signal on my network (EE) when the dongle is inside the car so it will stop working occasionally. The columbus seemed to get a strong 4G signal from the antenna in the sharks fin when using the phone as hands free. ( Sitting in the car in remote Wales I could use the phone to download internet data even when using the phone outside the car in the same place showed almost no bars). Does anyone know of a decent 4G / wifi dongle thing that would be able to connect to the sharks fin to get it's 4G signal, instead of relying on what little antenna it has inside the dongle body? Not too expensive though as it seems daft to pay hundreds of pounds to cobble together a wifi solution when you can buy a TomTom unit for less!
  9. I ask as several people here, wisely, say use OEM ABS sensors with the hub, not cheap ebay ones, but a quick search has found sensors from £5.50 up to £70 so how do I know which are OEM, or which are worth getting?
  10. Yes, they make good bearings. The ones on autodoc are about £50. They claim they have an "integrated ABS sensor" but I don't think that's true. They have an integrated magnetic positioning ring, same as most hubs, but not the ABS sensor that actually reads the position/speed. Are they OEM though?
  11. I need one, maybe two rear wheel hubs and speed sensors to correct a DGS change up problem in a Skoda Super mk II, 2 litre, 170 bhp, 2012 At my age I don't mind paying a little extra for OEM parts that will last me out, or at least OEM quality parts, but I object to paying through the nose for parts from a Skoda Stealer. Lots of sites like autodoc, eurocarparts etc claim to offer OEM quality parts and even let you choose your manufacturer. My question is then: Which manufacturer supplied rear hubs for the skoda superb in 2012? So that I can choose the same supplier again. One site says that Kraft are OEM but people can say what they like when they are selling something. Anyone know what makes to look out for when buying wheel hubs? If not OEM than what are good makes, as I'm getting too old to keep crawling underneath my car every couple of years!
  12. Ok, thanks both of you. Seems a reasonable explanation. Si if that's all it's for them I'll make one by sewing some nylon wadding material inside a bit of thick polyester fabric. That will make it rot and oil proof and should do the job. Don't fancy paying a fortune at a dealer just for a bit of padding!
  13. There is a (felt?) pad about 20cm x 50cm x about1cm thick that wraps around the bottom of the sump and slightly up the back of it near the drive shaft. It lays between the metal sump and the plastic engine under tray. My local indy garage changed my oil recently and managed to soak that pad and the engine tray with old engine oil. I've managed to clean the plastic under tray but can't clean the pad so I want to replace it, either with the same thing or with something that will do the job. Qn 1. What is it called? (So I know what I am looking for online) Qn2. What is it for? (Is it for sound proofing or to catch the occasional oil drop or something like that?)
  14. Ah, in that case I'll just get on with it then. I've never replaced them on any other car I've done. Probably taken me longer looking for the super duper skoda bolts than it will simply doing the job. Thanks everyone.
