  1. @BGB, nice. What colour is that, Business Grey or Silver? Btw, dealer told me today the new price lists for 1.5TSI are around 3-4 weeks away, and orders can be taken then.
  2. Not entirely sure if this review exactly relates to the new 1.5 TSI, worth a read though: http://www.motorreviewer.com/engine.php?engine_id=117
  3. I got a puncture in the front left the other day. The tyre was completely flat due to a screw in it. Fortunately i noticed this as i was reversing out of the drive. However, there was no tyre pressure warning from the car. Shouldn't it have picked up that the tyre was fully flat?
  4. I get many battery warnings. The dealer has three times checked the battery and claims it is just within acceptable threshold. The AA however came round and claimed it wasn't holding charge. Tbh, I'd rather pay to upgrade and replace it than go through the hassle of dropping the car off again. I also expect to get better mpg with a better battery as the alternator will be engaged less, plus stop-start would work more often
  5. I'm thinking of upgrading the battery on my 2016 Octavia, and both ATS, National and KWIK-FIT stock the Platinum brand - which is their suggested model. Yet, I haven't been able to locate a single review anywhere online of Platinum batteries. Are they any good?
  6. I've had countless battery warnings in my 2016 Octavia SEL 1.4 TSI. The battery is EFB. The dealer has tested it three times and says it's fine, so won't replace it. So, I'm considering buying a replacement, if only to avoid the constant hassle. All the online vendors advise that this model should have an AGM, yet I've read these two types of battery should not be changed for the other (here). Is this correct, or can I move seamlessly from EFB to AGM, assuming the car is re-programmed correctly?
  7. I'm currently having issues with my Htc10 and Bluetooth, but I use the Tidal app The issues only appeared to start though after upgrading to Android Oreo. Oreo seems to be a buggy release
  8. My Amundsen on my 2016 Octavia has suddenly starting behaving oddly when streaming music over Bluetooth from my Android mobile. About 1 second into each track the Amundsen is muted/paused. If I unmute, or increase the volume the music resumes. While in this paused/muted state, the music continues on my mobile. My phone is an HTC10, and recently upgraded to Android Oreo (8.0 and considered to be buggy). The app I'm streaming from is Tidal. I can Bluetooth to a speaker in the house from my phone without issue. I can stream to the car from the Google Play Music app without issue. I have disconnected and re-paired the phone. I have reset the Bluetooth settings in the car. Any thoughts or suggestions anyone?
  9. Strangely, they came back after a long drive. Perhaps it was battery issues.
  10. Thanks @SashaGrace. Where do I find that?
  11. I have 2016 mk3 with Amundsen radio and satnav Yesterday, all the Dab stations suddenly appeared as unavailable. Local reception is fine, home radios working fine, nothing reported by the BBC. I've tried rescanning and switching to FM and back. Nothing helps. The firmware is not quite current. The previous version. But it was working fine up to 2 days ago. The issue is both with engine on and off, so is probably not a battery issue, though I am getting battery warnings in cold weather. Any thoughts anyone?
  12. Thanks @Orville, succinct and the perfect post.
  13. Well, I just retrieved the car from the dealer to be told the battery is at 75% health so can't be replaced on warrantee. What puzzled me however is that they told me that swapping my old EFL battery for an AGM one is simple to do and requires no reprogramming of the car, which contradicts much of what I've read here.
  14. Has anyone used Halfords? Their prices seem good, but I'm a little concerned they won't have the expertise to reprogram a stop start car.
  15. Yep. Engaged, during driving I see 14.9V. After an hour or two into a long drive the alternator will typically disengage to show 12.9V, which quickly degrades to 12.0V when off.
  16. @BigEjit The dealer told me they would perform a full charge, leave it overnight and evaluate it the next day. Though, fat chance of taking it in with a low charge. We're driving back to Sussex from Cheshire the day before.... Even if the battery is "healthy" I'm going to push as hard as i can for a replacement, preferably larger and/or AGM.
  17. @flybynite It's an interesting point you make about over-sensitivity of the warnings. Tbh, I've experienced no symptoms other the warnings. Everything works fine and the car starts first time, every time. We don't really use anything current heavy. We don't have heated seats, and rarely have to use rear screen heater. I have a simple Ring voltmeter which connects into the cigarette lighter socket: - When we get warnings it reads 11.4V - Immediately after a short drive it reads 12.2V - Three hours after a short drive it reads 11.8V - I've just completed a charge with my CTEK and it now reads 12.0V
  18. @BigEjit, Thanks for your reply and advice. Much appreciated I'm charging the battery now and when doing so always connect the negative lead to the earth post of the car chassis, not the negative terminal of the battery (see photo). The photo attached shows the battery. I can't see anything date-specific. The car was built to order in April 2016. The DashCam is permanently connected to USB, not 12v, so shouldn't draw power when ignition is off. But i've now disconnected it to see if my problems go away. The car is locked when not in use.
  19. Hi. Can you tell me what you mean by "recode the battery management"? I thought replacing one battery with another is a simple operation.
  20. Interesting, as mine is the SEL. So with the added satnav (and other features) in the SEL you would expect a higher battery demand than the SE
  21. Last winter we were getting low battery warnings on our 1.4TSI Octavia estate despite it being only six months old. We got it checked out at the dealer's but they reckoned both the battery and alternator were fine. It's a stop-start car with a non-AGM battery. We saw no warnings over the summer. I should also say that even over long journeys the stop-start rarely, if ever, kicked in. This winter it's the same story, but worse. Over the course of 8 days I performed a full charge with a CTEK MSX 5.0, then drove a round trip of 120 miles, then on the eighth day got a low battery warning. I don't have day time lights enabled, but do have a dashcam connected via USB ( this is not powered during engine off). We're also low mileage (11000 miles in 18 months) with a fair number of short tips. I have the car booked in again for end of December for reevaluation. If the dealer says the same as last time what options do I have? Should I insist on an AGM battery? Would it make a difference? It seems crazy that I'm having to charge an 18 month old car every two weeks.
  22. I recently updated my Amundsen to ECE 2017/2018 and, apart from my saved destinations no longer working, it was fine. Didn't need to format it, just deleted the existing contents. I also used the Skoda application to do the unpacking rather than 7zip. The app works ok, but appears to be single threaded, meaning that when busy the UI freezes. This makes it look like it has broken or stopped working. I would suggest being patient. Does it really matter if the SD card is official Skoda or not? I'm very doubtful. I would expect that validation and security would be enabled by the md5 hash file in the root of the card. I would expect that your car's VIN would be encrypted into that file using the private key of an asymmetrical key pair, and then decrypted by the car using the public pair of that same key. This mechanism would ensure that Skoda could control which car received which update without the need for "official" SD cards. This is, however, all conjecture. I haven't tried updating my SatNav with a non-Skoda SD
  23. I have the 1.4 TSI. It does 0-60 in 8.5s, which for me is fast enough for a family car. But, get this, I can get 60 mpg on a stead A-road drive, and long distance motorway drives have returned 53 mpg. Low CO2 means £30 a year tax. Very happy.
  24. Unbelievably this has happened again with the ECE 2017/2018 update..... I understood that the previous update broke the favourites as the postcode format had changed to remove the space. This is almost acceptable..... But no format changes this time as far as I can tell, yet if I select any stored location it fails with (yet again): "Route Calculation Failed. No navigation data available for the entire route". Now I have to re-save them again. Really very poor
